Still no activation for me here, CPW ordered on Monday.

For those of you saying that you've already been billed by o2, is that upgraders or new CPW customers? As I've had nothing from o2, and direct debit doesn't seem to have been set up.

lunch time again - went into my local CPW - asked - i'm on there system and he said the details have been passed onto o2.

went round the courner to the o2 shop asked them to check if my details was on there system - they said they had no way of checking ? crazy

but she did say in the next 48 hours - o2 Store - Lincoln,UK

sim activation - NEXT 5 HOURS?

Just spoke to someone at 02.. he promised all iPhones will be sim activated within next 5 hours. :)

Right, I'm active!!

So it should hold some hope for you guys that they are getting round to it!
The amazing part, I failed the credit check, but my contract was "puched through" (I've only been 18 just over a month), either way it looks like all iPhone contracts are being looked at individually and not going through an automated system which could be why they are taking so long!

Good luck guys! Hope your activated soon!

Oh btw, I brought it Friday morning from O2 retail.

Well done, however I don't hold much hope for those who ordered from CPW as yours was from O2 who seem to be activating atleast some phones.

It looks like our little campaign at http://www.autumnskies.co.uk/iphone is picking up momentum!

Tech news site "The Register" has posted a story...

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/07/14/iphone_activations/

Exciting!!!

On the bright side maybe O2/CPW have forgotten about us all completely and we all have shiny new iphones without 18 month contracts..:p

Well yet another call to o2. Woman I spoke to said I wasnt on their system and have passed me along to their 'Dedicated iPhone Activation Team'

Will apparently get a call back later. Doubt that somehow

Just done the same after a couple of calls to O2 and CPW. The O2 rep said that CPW had not sent my details over to them hence why I'm not on the system, CPW rep said they had done so and gave me all the details of it. During the last call to O2 the rep said he'll pass on my details to the iphone activation team and they'll call me back and have the iphone up and running "within the next 5 hours".

We wait with bated breath

Still waiting here too (for SIM activation, a note of my new number, and a date for porting of my old number).

I spent four hours in a UK Apple Store on Friday trying to do the online activation process. Eventually I went to work when the O2 online systems went down completely, as there was no paper/phone backup in place at that point and the Apple staff said it would be best to come back later to complete the purchase.

Went back later on Friday afternoon and they were doing activations by phone, but they refused to let me complete my purchase (or even wait the 50 minutes until closing time to see if one of the assistants became free) - they said it was only for customers who had "waited" (i.e. wandered in to purchase after I had waited for four hours). Obviously they wanted to make sure they could knock off home early.

Queued up again on Sat am and got my phone within 10 minutes or so, since they had the paper sign up working and I already had my acceptance code from Friday's debacle.

Still waiting for activation on Monday afternoon. The Apple Store act surprised and refer me to O2. O2 take the SIM number and say, "it's inactive" (well doh).

The O2 rep I spoke to at 12.45pm today promised that my SIM would be activated "within the next five hours" and that I would get a callback within the next five hours too.

Sounds like they've got a lot of calls to make this afternoon!

Just got off the phone to O2. I was told I am "one of the few customers whose phone isn't activated yet", but they'll call back within 5 hours. So fingers crossed.

Yay something happened!

They cut my internet access off...

OK not *quite* what I was expecting :(

So now I can get a 'Not connected to the internet' error at 3G speeds :D

Just called CPW, was put through to o2. Got the same "we''ll call you up within 5 hours" speil.

Its 4pm now, so god knows if they mean business hours or literally 5 hours.

Sammy, presumably they mean the BackOffice team will call you within five hours. I've asked and they work til about 10pm - so hopefully it'll be today.

I got the 5 hour line at midday and they've got 42 minutes before they break yet another self-imposed deadline. I'm getting pretty close to just cancelling, if they fail this time. I think four full days is more than enough time to get this sorted, there really are no excuses.

You've already got an activated iPhone. Stop whinging... ;)

Remind us ... was it O2 or CW? Instore or online?

Well I just got the callback after 3hrs 45mins.

Basically they claim they have no record of me at all (despite my credit check going through on the O2 system and showing as "unconditionally accepted" on their website on Friday, and a contract reference being generated).

They re-took all of my details (including the info to do a credit check, IMEI, SIM number, PAC code etc.) and said they'd pass it to the activations team and that I should be activated in the next 24 hours.

They had to ask what price plan I'd chosen - since I took a higher one than I wanted to get a bigger discount, that's very trusting of them! Since they can't even find my details I doubt Apple and O2 would ever get around to reconciling the tariffs taken and subsidies given!

I said I was unhappy if they were going to run another credit check, since they'd already done that on Friday. The advisor claimed they'd know that I'd been checked already so they wouldn't run another check. I asked how they would know if there was no record of me on their systems, and she said they would just know!

I'm to wait now and my iPhone SIM will apparently be activated within the next 24 hours. I'll get an email to let me know, although that might take "another couple of hours". My number port will apparently go through on Wed or Thurs this week. She still can't tell me my temporary number, I'm just to give myself a call to find that out once I'm activated.

What a shambles.

Important Note for Carphone Warehouse Customers

After three days of nothing, iPhones ordered on Monday 7th from Carphone Warehouse Online are now starting to be activated. If we're lucky the majority of them will be up and running tonight.

Fingers crossed.

my hubby didnt want me to get an iPhone as he reckoned I'd be glued to it all the time but the funny thing is that I'm far more 'glued to it' now than I'll ever be once (IF!) it's ever activated! .. I'm clutching it constantly and switching it off and on again in the hope it may actually help!! lol

Wow, great timing. Mines just been done.

5.40pm UK Time
Just got off the phone with O2 who were supposed to phone me back after 5 hours (at 9.30am today) .. the man I spoke to was actually very pleasant and totally admitted it's a O2 problem and not Carphone Warehouse (yes! He was working for O2!!)
My phone hasn't even been allocated a number yet (looked up the IMEI number for me) and he has no real idea of a when other than the whole 2nd tier of people at O2 are working on it manically!
While I'm not really any nearer to getting the phone working it at least helped me to know that it's not CPW I need to hassle about it any longer!
continuing to wait (and attempting to be as patient as possible after this long!)

Existing user still with "No Service"

Hi Guys.

Have to say i really feel for those of you without iphones which are not yet active.

Im an existing iphone 2G user. Picked up a 16gb from my local O2 store on friday morning. Was 6th in line. The guy in front of me had his dealt with quickly, then the system crashed. It was sorted by hand and i returned at lunch to collect the phone.

Friday i read about all the issues over upgrading firmware etc etc so left it until saturday evening before activating. Thought this should be a simple procedure and so it seemed. The O2 website makes it clear existing users just swap the sim over, activate in itunes and you are good to go. It says new customers might have to wait a while as the contracts are been manually entered blah blah blah.

So, from my point of view, i am an iphone O2 customer so shouldnt be a problem. Stuck the sim in, opened itunes and it was just a case of logging in my apple ID again and then the phone synced and was active. But..... NO SERVICE - and here i am at 6.09pm still with no service.

It isnt the end of the world for me - i have a 2G iphone, but im just curious if there are any other existing 2G users with the same problem. Im not convinced it has been set up properly in the first place as it goes, but we'll see - its no biggy really - ill just go back to store and stand there until they resolve the issue, but it is frustrating.

One thing has sprung to mind, i have to say im finding it rather tiresome people posting saying they are going to cancel etc etc etc. You arent are you - be honest with yourselves. You either ordered on the first possible date you could or went and stood in line to get an iphone. There is no way you are then going to cancel your contract over 3 or 4 days of no service. Yes, its not that good and it is frustrating but you obviously want an iphone and poor customer service isnt going to be the reason you send it back.

And for what its worth, O2 are not that bad. Can you imagine if Orange got the gig? Have you ever managed to speak with anyone at Orange with half a clue. At least at O2 you do get to speak to someone and fairly quickly.

Anyway - thought id share that - if there are any 2G upgraders in my position id be curious to know
