That’s interesting about the cameras, so do you find the 8 Plus camera is better then the X?

Also I flip all the time between the X or wait but I think I’ll wait at the end of the day.
I may wait to see what the 6.1” rumoured cheaper iPhone is like? See what they cut back on it. And see what the new SE is like. I mean if I was to look at a Plus, the new cheaper model may be better value and offer the new design language and still be smaller.
The situation with flash photography is much better on the 8 Plus than the X. They positioned the flash on the X in a bad place relative to the lenses so that when you use the flash it results in red eye on still pictures and weird white eye in videos. Most people usually don’t use their iPhone flash, from what I’ve seen. So it’s not necessarily a problem that’s going to impact the X’s popularity or even result in Apple making any changes. (Overall low light photography on the X is slightly better due to OIS on the zoom lens and a f/2.4 aperture on the X zoom lens vs lack of OIS and f/2.8 on the zoom lens of the 8 Plus.)

But I think it’s ridiculous the issue was allowed to happen in the first place in such an expensive iPhone that is supposed to showcase iPhone’s future. It’s a real bad sign from a company that sells us on its meticulous attention to detail.

The design of the X’s camera bump also apparently allows for dust infiltration into the lenses over time. That’s also unacceptable.

They’ve had years to get rear camera design basics down to a science. When I compare that camera camel hump design to the elegance of the dual camera design on my S9+ I’m just astounded that Apple passes this off as good design. It sticks out so much you really need a case. It lets dust in. It messes up flash photos. What were they thinking?

The only nice thing I can say about it is that the shape goes nicely with the overall shape of the phone. And the bumpy lens does look nice flush inside a good thick case.

Good luck going naked with it, though. A naked iPhone X back without a case reminds me of hermit crabs without their snail shell “houses”. It looks weirdly vulnerable on the back.

Wow you actually like the Versa better than an Apple Watch? I haven’t seen one in person yet. Honestly I’m not taken with the pictures of it I’ve seen so far.

I was just trying to figure out what to do with my Yahoo account. I’m getting phished on it constantly. Clearly my account info was compromised quite some time ago. Unfortunately somehow one of my Apple Pay credit cards is tied to my Yahoo account somehow and my husband and I for the life of us can’t get the credit card account information to update to accept a new email address. And I can log into my Yahoo account but when I try to go to the control center to manage my Yahoo Account I’m asked nonstop to enter my password. Over and over. I’m not doing this inside of an email but through their actual site. At least I hope so.

I got the email notifying me that Oath has taken over my Yahoo account now. I’ve had that email account for close to 20 years now. I don’t have too many things tied to it. However at one time since it was my main email account it was tied to a credit card for automatic payments. I don’t know if it still is. I lost track years ago when my husband took over managing my bank accounts and credit card accounts when I was badly frail with a cardiac problem for close to a couple of years—I’m 98% fine now, just gotta watch out for strep.

At any rate I’ve got a lot to untangle. Then there was a comment over on Android Central from one person saying he can’t close his Yahoo account because it uses his real name (which mine also does) and if he closes it Yahoo can eventually release it to be reused by someone else! I need to look into that.

Anyway I was over on Android Central reading an Opinion piece about the Oath-Samsung deal that’s going to put data grabbing apps on Samsung phones, especially the Verizon ones.

Goodness I’m really upset. I wasn’t at first, but wrestling with my Yahoo account and its stranglehold on one of my actual bank accounts and the heavy data mining is giving me a major pause to think about a lot of things. They did say in their new terms of service they will plunder everything including the contents of your emails and everything you look at and use while logged into Yahoo/Oath/Satan.

Now I’m rethinking the power I’ve given Google over all of my data. Jeez, all this from a few minutes doing a WTF over an email account.

Yeah the hardware and cameras are much more pleasant to use on Android but the invasiveness is getting to be a bit much. I have a free barely used Proton Mail account that I might end up going with (need a paid version) but what happens if they ever sell out?

I feel like a ping pong ball debating between iOS and Android.

Yahoo had that bad compromise. I was actually thinking of moving everything over to either gmail, something other than yahoo...

To take better photos of your cat! :D

As for the OP, nope, I am addicted to my Apple Watch, love it, and I don’t mind iOS as it’s smooth enough, despite the bugs.
However, due to Cooks plans for more profits and throttlegate which affects my 6S, which now has poor battery life after the 11.3 update despite the os claiming it’s fine, I am not certain if I want to give them a grand for an X..
I think I’ll wait it out and see what comes out this year. So my mindset has changed towards them.

I was addicted to my Apple Watch also, but I find the Gear S3 Frontier so much better for my use. I was shocked/surprised at that when I moved to the Note 8. I figured I would be "putting up with it" just to have a smartwatch, but really like it way better than the Apple Watch for the majority of things I want to do with a smartwatch.

Locally I see everyone wearing apple watches and I went to a bussiness conference out of town and oddly enough I saw a ton of Apple watches there as well as a ton of people using Note 8 and even Android devices in general.

Personally I find people who blabber on about Privacy and Data Encryption rather hilarious between Android and iOS.

For some reason people think Google is this evil company and Apple is this angel that treats your data with the utmost care, and this whole China OEM smear campaigning that I see some here gobbling up like Gospel is just downright ridiculous.

I have been working in Digital Marketing for about 3-4years now, and back in 2016 I worked on a Political Campaign that opened my eyes;

People blabber on about privacy and data encryption, yet most mobile networks globally pretty much gobble up and sell your personal data to marketing agencies and big data companies like Blue Kai and so on. It's hilarious how Facebook is being dragged out due to a practice that mobile networks exercise regularly.

How can people here go on about privacy and encryption when the very people who own the pipes that their so-called encrypted data travels through have and sell their information it's hilarious.

I am not saying that you should not worry about Privacy and safety of your data, but I find incredibly amusing that people who own Devices that are CONSTANTLY connected to the Internet actually believe that their chosen platform guarantees safety of their data.

By the way I now am certified to advertise to you on Yahoo OATH :D

BTW, OATH is a culmination of a WHOLE lot of companies including AOL, Verizon, Yahoo and so on to build an programmatic ad platform, no matter whether you are on Android or iOS, you have and will be giving up data to the platform as it covers millions of touch points ;)

When it comes to all this data/privacy nonsense I ensure that I have passwords set so that nobody can login to my phone and accounts and do damage to them, anything further than that you are worrying yourself over things you NEVER had control over. ;)

Do it, move everything over for your convenience but dont fool yourself into thinking your data is any safer or better off.

Find what works for you, put passwords and update them regularly.

It's all the same crap with a different brand name at the end of the day when it comes to cloud services. It's safe until a major hack happens and you move to the next "safest" .

Thanks for the explanation. It is silly but a good highlight that the X camera isn’t all that over the 8 Plus, I mean if dust gets in the photos will look a bit rubbish anyway.
Not fit for purpose on a device costing a grand, and with a third iteration of s dual lens camera hump, again Apple have no excuse for a flaw like that for again a grand.

I'm all in:

iMac, MacBook Pro, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Airpods.

While I don't like the lack of customization, I've never had any issues with them.

Now, if Apple were to say they were no longer producing devices, I'd probably go back to Android.

I sometimes think about it but I am really all in with Apple at the moment. I feel its hard to break out of the ecosystem. Plus I have a huge Apple voucher. I am considering it on my next round of tech upgrade.

I am pretty happy with my iPhone, but I don't like certain things about Apple's politics, nor do I appreciate things like the 3.5mm jack disappearing from my iPhone and the quality that macOS has suffered recently.

Others also complain that things like the Mac Pro, the Mac mini, and the MacBook Air have not seen an upgrade since as long ago as 2013.

Are you contemplating other choices or are you married to the Mac ecosystem? As with my iPhones, I've been very happy with my Macs since I switched. I haven't upgraded past the 6s, however, but I had purchased every iPhone since the 3GS.

As for where to go...I don't like Android. I would probably only switch if it was to a Linux phone. I can do without the App Store.

Not at all. I'm sticking with IOS 10 :).

What is the voucher from?
Apple only downside is they are overpriced and you have to deal with them adopting some trends a little bit later than some of the android devices.
[doublepost=1525700763][/doublepost]With that being said there are things I love about android and Apple only downside to me at the moment is price of tge apple products.

I'm seriously disappointed in the X's camera. The pictures it takes are terrible, if you even zoom the picture a bit you see all kinds of distortion. I was sure I had a faulty phone, but have compared it to two other X's and they get the same thing. I think my old 7 plus took much better pictures.

It's this kind of stuff that confuses me. Apple's stance on privacy is much different than Google's, just to use one comparison of many companies. Encryption is the main one that comes to mind. When you put encryption in the same paragraph as personal data being sold, I'm not sure if you understand the difference. imessage, for example, is encrypted end to end meaning no one has access to that data except you and the recipient.

Now I don't think that Apple is innocent, but common sense tells you that they don't make the majority of their money from selling your data like Google does. Does that mean they don't sell your data? Well at least they say they don't and I tend to believe them because they wouldn't make money off of it. Sure it's possible that they secretly lie to us and do sell our information, but I just find that highly unlikely, but of course I can't prove that it's not the case. What's amazing to me is if you download the information that Apple keeps on you it's like 1/10 the size of other companies. I also don't hear of any privacy scandals with them, yet it seems like every other year Google has one, what's the latest that their children's apps were illegally tracking them for years. Another one found that apps using facebook API's were also illegally tracking. Sometimes it's not a matter of the company actively selling your information, but it can also be an issue with HOW they handle your data.

No I don't think we can ever be totally private, no matter which paradigm we choose. But I think as consumers we can choose to reward a company which we think handles our privacy in a better way. Oh and Google isn't evil, neither is facebook or Oath for that matter, they are just corporations beholden to shareholders and their primary goal is to make money, same as Apple.

Yeah it's a losing battle, I know, I know. No one seems to care about it anymore, happily selling their firstborn kid for some material desire. It's amazing that Facebook rebounded so quickly as if no one cared, even the congressional hearings were a complete joke. I don't get it, we aren't talking about selling your data to make money anymore, but selling your data to influence world leaders and policy, how the heck can so few care? Anyhoo I'll stop here before this gets thrown into the political forum.

That is what they say about iMessage. It is not proof.
With the whole privacy thing I actually google has a tad bit better scale than Apple and it is marginal.
The only thing with Apple I do not like is iCloud, I am curious in the long run how can you remove all your info and shut the system down....

Quite the opposite , I'm embracing iOS , and leaving macOS behind

Once you've got used to the simplicity , stability and all round ease of use of the iPad and iPhone , macs feel like going back to the stone age.. unix commands yeah whatever...:rolleyes:...backing up etc etc .. the old ways aren't always the best ways...

I use my iMac 27 for spreadsheets and err , that's it

Everything else is easier on iOS devices Imo plus I love the fact things just happen automatically on my other devices without me having to maintain stuff ...

If I needed a laptop, I would have a hard time getting a MBP right now as I'm not a big fan of the keyboard and find the Touch Bar next to useless. Thankfully, my 2013 15" was spec'd up and still hums along.

That being said, I rarely touch my laptop anymore. I do almost all of my day to day work on a 12.9 iPP or if needed, I jump on my iMac, a great mac that suffers from none of the hardware shortcomings found on their laptops.

As frustrated as I occasionally get with Apple’s mobile and assistant strategy, there is nothing in the market that I’d choose to replace my Apple Watch, iMac, or iPad.
