Your joking right? People literally had physical mock ups of the iphone x.
In all fairness that was 8 months ago. Then again, nothings really been released since then either.

I’d love to see the current 10.5” model’s screen size increase to 11” or so while keeping the body compatible with the current ASK and Smart Cover.

It as long as the aspect ratio doesn’t change. If they simply stretch out the top and bottom bezels it may get too long. 16:9 on a tablet is horrible. I’ve used my thinkpad maybe 5 times in that mode. iPad 4:3 or whatever it is definitely works better.

My personal selfish desire would be an all new device with a 11.5 screen. Perfect replacement for my MBA, possibly my favorite Apple laptop ever. Portable enough yet I could do work on it.

Is it weird that current iPad pros are not on sale 2 weeks out from the event and memorial day weekend ? I'm planning on purchasing a Pro but not sure if I should wait.

Btw I have the patience of a three year old lol. I just sold my iMac so all I have is an iPhone 8 Plus. It’s going to be a long 2 weeks

Well, I suppose you *could* get one now and it'll still be in the 2 week return period right? Hedge your bets. It's just too much work for me. Order, set up, return, order again. PITA.

My best feeling is now March-2019 !

They would be nuts if they nearly stop selling iPad Pros until 2019! After the 2018 iPad the sales of the Pro models come nearly to a halt because for half the price the 2018 iPad is cannibalizing the Pro's massively as my Apple dealer told me...

Lets see what happens ? Macrumors is still saying there is a chance of the new iPad Pro X being announced at the WWDC. Though I have my doubts.

the “Modern iPad” rumor and other leaked iPad model numbers are of one Pro iPad that will take over the 12.9” and 10.5” pros.
I’m thinking one new size around 11.5-12” will be the new pro.

I have a hard time seeing Apple consolidate the pro line back down to 1 screen size. Also I think the physical dimaneions of the 10.5" are pretty much spot on, as it's basically as small as the iPad can be with a full sized keyboard (the sweet spot). Now I think it's conceiveable that the screen will expand out to that size (no idea what the aspect ratio would be on that). Then there will always be people who want to maximize screen size, so I don't think Apple Will ever go below 12.9". Maybe Apple will shrink the bezels around it. Maybe Apple will increase the screen to fill the current dimensions. Or maybe Apple will do a moderate increase in screen size (just to accommodate the potential new 10.5" aspect ratio) and then shrink the bezel around that.

I hope they delay it until at least autumn. It makes more sense for the iPad Pro to get a faster version of the current iPhone instead of the X chip being matched by the next generation of the non-X chip a couple months later. I'd also like to see a real redesign with slim bezels, OLED, and some sort of other functionality to bring the iPad Pro closer to the Mac in productivity. It would also be nice if they shipped an Apple Pencil 2 that is redesigned to have a screw on cap and various improvements such as even finer control, have the cap function as an eraser in apps, and a gesture where you could squeeze the Pencil and it could pop up a contextual menu or some other pre-defined action in apps.

I love your posts. Couldn’t find the old discussion we had. Can you please do the same math for the 12.9 (and the mini if you have time also edge to edge? I’d appreciate it. Thanks!)

Many people including me think that the Pros are not so much superior that they can demand twice the money for it...A new Pro with the recent CPU and GPU, smaller bezels, FaceID and so on would be acceptable for that price...

I gave away my 2015 12.9 Pro 4 weeks ago to wait for the new one released at WWDC. In the meantime I got me the 2018 iPad and am surprised how good it is. The only thing I am really missing is the screen size from my 12.9....

But this new Pro will be even more expensive tHan the current ones which negates those smaller bezels and FaceID. I am not even convinced it's all that necessary on iPads as I don't lock and unlock it as often as the iPhone. The CPU and GPU on the current Pros is already more powerful than the iPad 2018.

Don’t discount the lust factor for the latest shiny and new thing. Human nature. The 8+ was just as good as the X, a redesign and a few bling features shifted people toward the higher price point.

There’s also rumors of a 2nd gen Apple Pencil. I’d bet money that it’ll be exclusive to the Pros for 6 months.

Smart connector. Bit useless right now IMO. There’s what, two maybe 3 keyboards that use it. If they make a GOOD keyboard, slightly thicker perhaps with backlighting and function keys now that means the IPP is in genuine laptop replacement category.

It won’t be compared to the 329 iPad. It’ll be compared with the MacBook and the MBA in ADDITION to the 329 iPad.

Two different markets two different needs. I don’t see much crossover between buyers of an iPhone SE buyer and a 8+ or X sale. Technically they’re both “phones”

Right NOW I’d agree with you. Anyone looking at the 10.5 IPP could be happy with the 329 version. Makes me think even more that a redesign will be here sooner rather than later. IF not WWDC then certainly in time for back to school.

When the A12 is released this year the CPU/GPU in the Pros are two generations behind the than recent ones. This is OK for the cheap iPad 2018 but not for the expensive Pros....

I really don’t think people care about CPU and GPU at his point as even the power of the 9.7 Pro hasn't been fully utilised yet let alone the 2017 models. I own an 2nd Gen iPad Pro 12.9 and had gotten an iPad 2018 for my mom and I could hardly tell a difference in speed. Definitely not worth the extra asking price. The ProMotion display and the display quality is what’s undeniably the game changer. I don’t think people will pay an even higher premium over the current Pros just because of bezeless display and FaceID and a faster processor just for bragging rights. For one the 10.5 bezelless display will probably cost as much as the 12.9 Pro but have a 11.3 screen and FaceID.

Yeps.
If it enters into true MacBook territory it's a hard sell as I would always choose my Mac over an iPad for that price point. I only use my 12.9 Pro for content consumption, emails and spreadsheets and gaming. When I want to get real work done, I need a computer.

I totally agree. Ideally what the Pro X should be is a giant version of the iPhone X minus the notch. (OLED screen, FaceID, total gesture based system, ForceTouch, etc) The problem with that is the cost of OLED screens on an iPad aren't cost effective.

Also idk why, but they haven't put ForceTouch into any iPads yet and for me it fragments the experience. Oh sure we get Apple Pencil support, but muscle memory being what it is, i still find myself force touching my screen (10.5) and nothing happens. This is a problem. I don't get why they cant incorporate both functionality.

What im hoping for is a announcement and launch shortly after at WWDC...Whats more likely I feel is Anouncement, launch in the fall.

Keep in mind, last year apple announced 2 products at WWDC that didn't hit market in time. The HomePod (which sounds great but is dumb as a bag of rocks) and the AirPad, which still isn't out yet.

Granted both were brand new products, and the iPad Pros are just next gen models, but still...

Also lets keep in mind, now that Apple Pencil support is on the lower end iPads, Outside of the screen (size and functionality) Processor, and SmartConnect, whats the major difference.

Most people who just want an iPad for media consumption and light drawing/writing with the pencil are obviously going to go for the lower end model.

The SmartConnect functionality can be replaced by a simple Bluetooth Keyboard Case or standalone keyboard.

Most people aren't really going to care about the 120Hz refresh rate or slightly bigger screen or HDR Functionality or Pixel count, and the Processor is still good enough for most media consumption and gaming...

So in reality, what is going to diffrenate the Pro from the standard model?

It has to be a redesign with Face ID, and added functionality and a new pencil. If they do add Face ID it has to work in landscape mode too otherwise its going to be a major pain to unlock it...

Is that worth twice the price? I honestly don't know..But I wouldn't be shocked if there was a price drop on the pros as well..

If the Pros started at 500 dollars..I wouldn't complain one bit...
