Folks ! Who are saying that there are no leaks on the rumours of the iPad X, because the loopholes have been tightened is just wishful thinking and optimistic thinking. I am saying since there is no product in sight hence no leaks or rumours, since there is no fire hence no smoke !!
Last years 10.5 came out of the blue too. I believe may 29 is when news first leaked. Personally, I agree, WWDC looks tough but then September is all iPhone and watch. October? Special keynote just for one product? Also unlikely.

My gut says an announcement at WWDC where there already is an enthusiastic crowd with availibility in 3Q. So June announcement August purchase. September is iPhone and watch and perhaps October for the new Air. That’s a nice staggered set of launches for excitement and revenue.

My biggest guess is Apple WILL not announce iPads until the fall (and my crazy guess) is the “Modern iPad” rumor and other leaked iPad model numbers are of one Pro iPad that will take over the 12.9” and 10.5” pros.
I’m thinking one new size around 11.5-12” will be the new pro.
Apple I think will then sell...

iPad Pro 11.5-12” at ($799-64GB, $899-256GB, $999-512GB.)

iPad Pro 10.5” ($599-64GB, $699-256GB, $799-521GB.)

iPad 6th-7th gen 9.7” at ($329-32GB, $429-128GB.)

iPad Mini 4 will get axed completely or given pencil support (not keyboard) and updated internals like iPad 6.) But then treated like the iPod Touch where it won’t be updated again.

Kallum.

Your second choice isn’t that craY actually. I’ve been saying that for a while. Like the iPhone X, the 10.5 and 12.9 will stick around with bumped up internals and we get a new 11.3 inch iPad X.

Now the wildcard here is whether down the road you’ll see an iPad x+

Still not giving up hope on WWDC. Last year was quiet until May29 and then you got the 10.5. This year ? After all the noise made about leaks etc? Anything’s possible.

Who knows anymore what Apple is doing these days?

The 10.5 Pro was released 15 months after the 9.7 Pro. I don't see them releasing a new or update to the 10.5 only 12 months after it was released. Not when they are trying to stretch out the update cycle to reflect the length of ownership.

The Mini sadly, I believe will be gone. I had been holding out hope for WWDC but with the release of the 2018 iPad (which is exactly what I was expecting for the Mini... Pencil support but no smart connector) and the demise of Android tablets, it makes little sense (from Apple's perspective) to continue it.

I'm not expecting Apple to update the Pro line this year. March 2019 is my guess. Nor am I expecting a form-factor change at that time. But at some point I can see the Pro sizes go to 11.6 and 13.

Don't cry. March 2019 is both impossible and illogical. FaceID for ipads is already in ios12. Modern Ipad references have been found. Practically, read the blogs, there are a LOT of people looking at the cheap 9.7 with pencil as an alternative to the Pros. 100% there is an update coming. The only question is WWDC or Q3.

The mini is interesting. One of the other threads somebody mentioned that if the mini goes edge to edge you get a 9.7" screen. Conversely if the current 9.7 goes bezelless you get a physical body size of the mini. The 'mini' by name may be dead but you may see something in the same physical chassis size, which is all that matters.

That evidence in iOS 12 (which doesn't appear to be any more extensive than a data table to differentiate models) does not NECESSARILY indicate an iPad update is coming in 2018. If Apple was going to release a Faced ID-equipped iPad in 2019, they would have to start putting the code into iOS 12 this year. It would be highly unusual for Apple to introduce a point update to iOS that adds support for the hardware. They usually do that upfront at the beginning of the cycle.

You are obviously free to proclaim with absolute certainty that a Face ID-enabled iPad will be released this year. And you'll have all the bragging rights of "I told you so" to go with it. :)

Not at all. No bragging rights needed or wanted and absolutely not making any kind of prediction. Look, we're all excited, we're all speculating ... let's call it wishful thinking :)

My heart says it will happen ! Mind says steady boy ! Doesn't look like happening !

And as the ancestral intellectuals have said this for ages ! Mind is always superior and correct over Heart !!

"100% there is an update coming. The only question is WWDC or Q3" certainly sounds like a prediction. Apple has not announced that any new iPad Pro models are coming this year. If they did, then that would be an indisputable fact.

My opinion of March 2019 is just that, my opinion. I didn't parade it as a fact, nor did I characterize anyone else's opinions as "impossible and illogical". You have claimed with 100% certainty that a new Face ID-enabled app is going to be released this year, either at WWDC or the Fall. That is NOT speculation, that is a declaration of fact. Please don't back pedal and say that it's just "wishful thinking".

Sheesh bud, we're talking about tech and IPADS here not religion or politics. I call it wishful thinking, you think I'm back pedaling. So, fine, you win. Because this actually means nothing. There we go. I won't 'backpedal'. Call it a prediction if you like. If it doesn't happen, you can say "i told you so". Happy?

I'd have to scroll back a bit but pretty sure I didn't call you out as being impossible or illogical. Just the general concept of a March 2019 release. If you took offense, mea culpa. Cool? The world is too damn crazy right now for us to be here arguing on an apple RUMORS site talking about Ipad Pros of all things. This is supposed to be fun.

Best,

Mark Gurman acts snooty with me, when I tweeted him for details he is like Shhhh...Everything is a secret....No Noise to be made about that !!

Yeah...Yeah...He works fo Bloomberg !! But thats not some government institution !!

I’m still hoping for a WWDC announcement of an iPad X style upgrade. I’m not predicting anything nor am I willing to bet on it, but given evidence from all the way back in 2017 I remain hopeful!

All the way back in October of last year, there were rumblings of an iPad Pro with Face ID from none other than renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Then in November Bloomberg reported that we can expect Face ID AND slimmer bezels AND no home button! Then later in Nov. we heard news of a reported 7nm A11X Bionic SOC with octacore CPU in a 2018 iPad...

Fast forward to 2018 and we’ve got rampant rumors and speculation flying around from everyone from KGI to Bloomberg and I believe Digitimes if I’m not mistaken as well as mention of a “Modern IPad” in source codes and even supply chain leaks (although no parts pictured that I’m aware of)...

There have even been rumors of a WWDC launch going around from Economic Daily News and others and one rumor said a little over a year after the launch of the 10.5” a new Pro is to be expected.

I’m sure most of you know all this but I just thought I’d mention these rumors as one reason for my optimism. If not at WWDC then I would venture soon after there should be something... but my guess and hope is that we’ll see an announcement at WWDC.

I’m personally interested in the new iPad Pro mostly for the new design more than anything else as my 10.5 is powerful enough for my needs and then some. But if a bezelless design is part of the package, sign me up! Plus even though horse power is not a main concern of mine, that A11X Bionic does sweeten the deal. It could potentially improve battery life and future proof the device plus make it compatible with, potentially, more IOS releases down the road.

The only other thing I can think of that would be a great addition would be maybe a 4K display but that would arguably probably be a waste on a smaller screen than TVs even if you are holding the iPad a lot closer to your face. Then again, I’m sure some people out there could find a use for it and the crisper the better right?

So anyway, I remain hopeful... can’t wait till the 4th of June!!!

I bought a 12.9" ipad pro a couple of weeks ago and once I realized how useful it was, decided to switch for a model with more storage. The guy @ the apple store convinced me to just return it because of WWDC was a month away. He wasn't 100% sure new ipads would come out but said "there's a really good chance". It was enough for me so now I wait and check Macrumors every day for leaks. I'll be stoked if their even slightly upgraded. 2 weeks to go :)

I hate to burst your bubble, but the Apple Store employees have no more knowledge of what’s in the product pipeline than you or I do.

I am confident it's not going to be at WWDC. Either September or March next year.
I'll agree with both your dates. How's that for hedging bets? :)

WWDC announcement with September shipment. For ONE new model ipadX. Let's call it the 'small' one ... perhaps 11.5 inches screen. At the same time internal upgrades to both the 10.5 and 12.9 in the current chassis. March 2019 ipad X+ where the 12.9 goes either edge to edge (same physical body, 14" screen size) or bezelless (same screen size smaller physical chassis)

Sorry but I simply don't see them doing NOTHING until March 2019. The new cheap iPad with pencil will absolutely cannibalize the pros. Back to school comes up in September. Christmas holiday shopping season in November ... there will be SOMETHING to move people from spending 329 + pencil to handing over Apple 1000 + pencil. And typically, a fancy new design will do it.
[doublepost=1526884226][/doublepost]A few links. These are enthusiasts and tech bloggers writing. If they don't think you need a Pro can you imagine the average consumer? Walk into the Apple store and see two fairly similar looking ipads. they don't care about specs and what makes them different. They can both use the pencil. One is almost 500 bucks cheaper (not sure what the exact number is, seems about right) Which one will they buy? Make the keyboard a bit better. Perhaps backlighting or function keys and, again, that's exclusive to the smart connector enabled pros. NOW you've given people a reason to move up from the basic iPad to the 'laptop replacement' Pro. A sexy bezel ess design to show its new won't hurt either.

We can all disagree. Again, this is fun speculation. I just don't see zero changes until March 2019. It's not very Apple like. They are the masters of making you want to upgrade and buy the next new thing. No way in heck will they allow sales lost to the most basic iPad if they can increase margins by making us spend more on the higher end series.

There were also rumors of a redesigned pencil to go with iPad X (lets just use that name for now). Bet you a buck the new pencil stays exclusive to the iPad Pro line.

Been lurking around on this topic, and TBH at this stage, we would have gotten some kind of leak if its going to show up at WWDC outside of a "Modern iPad" listing in some lines of code.

Is there a next gen x style iPad in the works? undoubtedly. Will it show up at WWDC? POSSIBLY...(50/50). Do I want one? You better believe it.

THAT SAID...This isn't the standard iPad anymore, where they can get away with a 12 month cycle. The pro models are the high end ones, and to launch a new pro every single 12 months makes it a bit obsolete too quickly (by obsolete I mean not the latest and greatest and not meaning no longer usable)

I think a 15-18 month to 2 year cycle is more realistic and reasonable.

I have the 10.5 256 gig version. Im planning on getting the next version IF THEY LAUNCH IT NEXT MONTH...

THAT SAID...if they don't launch it next month, I got no problem with waiting till September or October. Can save up a lot more and get a much higher storage one, and maybe the new iPhone X plus along side of it as well, especially if I sell my 8 plus and 10.5 (all 256 gig) to offset the cost, so I got no issue with saving for a few more months.

If I apply logic here...the line of code I believe was part of a possible IOS 12 update right? If thats true, then a key feature of using this next gen iPad would have to be sideways Face ID....

IF SIDEWAYS Face ID isn't out until iOS 12 and the gold master of IOS 12 is usually alongside the new phones in September...then why would apple put out an iPad Pro X (for lack of a better name at the moment) Now in June, when you couldn't unlock the thing unless it was in portrait mode?

Wouldn't it just make more sense to wait for iOS 12 in the fall to launch it?

Also look at the product lineup for the rest of the year...Odds are the current X is just going to get a price cut and the X Plus will take the top tier phone spot (and price) and then add on the rumored LCD model at a lower end..and you don't got much new stuff...

Apple Watch will prob get a spec bump..but nothing really breathtaking new this year outside of the X Plus. Again a fall launch would make the fall lineup seem more full no?

Also, as logically as it sounds, I still haven't read anything on FACEID hitting the iMac or MacBooks as well..We all know eventually it will..but when (next year maybe?)

Personally I just want apple to have its product lineup and tech consistent. I would love to purchase a OLED Screen Keyboard from apple to use with my iMac (I own the 3D Touch trackpad)

I just don't get why they aren't more consistent with there tech lineup. Frankly im still shocked the iPads themselves pro or not, don't have a form of 3D Touch as well, its too jarring using it on my phone, then it doesn't work on the iPad.. Seems like they could do it no problem!

(Ok the quite thing didn’t work. I’m replying to what you said about the iPhones and watch)

That part is actually incorrect. Factual not speculation. The current X is going to be dropped from the lineup. So you have the new 5.8 X, the X+ and the new 6.1 LCD. Plus a potential SE2. That’s 4 new phones.

Apple Watch I’ve read is getting a form factor change. Also edge to edge with 15% more screen space than series 3.

Most of the rest I’d agree with you which is why I think we will see a WWDC announcement but shipping in W3 with iOS 12.

Lack of rumors. Who knows? If I remember right the first indication last year of a new iPad Pro was on May 29. A week later the 10.5 came out.

Ipad pros have been announced in November(first 12.9”), in March(9.7”), and in June(2nd gen 12.9” & 1st gen 10.5”)....so who knows when the next ipad pros will be announced. WWDC in June is coming up real fast. Even without any leaks yet, My bet & hope is thats when the new pros will be announced. Guess we’ll find out soon enough.

When does the back to school stuff start and end? If I remember right uni starts 1st week of September right? Anyone know the exact dates they start and finish the discounts and free headphones with purchase etc?
