Well I went back this afternoon, the same guy who was trying to help me yesterday was there & this time everything worked no problem. So I guess they fixed whatever the problem was. Anyway, I got my phone.
Cool. The person there gave me their number to text tomorrow and see if it was working so maybe I can get it then.

Hi everyone, I figured I’d give an update.

My iPhone 13 (red, 256gb, T-Mobile) was preordered on the first day of preorders, at 9:58 AM. Throughout the process, my device was always in the “Ready for release day pickup: Friday” or “Ready for release day pickup: Tomorrow” state (release day). Come release day, nothing happens. By 6:13 PM on release day, I got an email saying it was delayed.

Suddenly, the next morning, at 10:00 AM as soon as the store opened, I got a text and email saying it was ready. I picked it up, did my trade in, and asked if I could activate it at home. It was extremely painless. I was in and out of Best Buy within a few minutes.

I’m sorry to hear about the frustration people had here with their pickups/activations. I hope you all can get your phone soon!

hey thanks for the update

Got a question. you mentioned you asked if you could activate at home.

Did BestBuy give you a new sim card? Or did you just use your old sim?

if you used the new sim, did you have to do anything to activate it other than putting it inside the phone?

I’ve been hearing people having problems with the sim cards on reddit so curious how yours went.

Status still says "We'll email you when it's ready for pickup.", but the bar looks like its moving a bit

BB wouldn't let me activate at home. The process was LOOOOONG...like yesterday it took a good 30 minutes to get through the process with one phone. The guy kept scanning codes which weren't registering. Had to call in 2 other mobile experts to help, finally they figured it out. Granted, all three of my 13s had trade-ins which slowed things down a bit. None of my sims worked, I had to swap out with my old sims which was fine, they were newer sims. For one of the phones I forgot to pull the old sim from my trade in so I had to use the new sim. I got 5G, but when I tried to make a call it immediately directed me to T-Mobile customer service because the sim wasn't associated with the phone. Got a call back from T-Mobile about 2hrs later and they got me up and running. All in all I would say it was worth the hassle for the great deal but I'm not sure why the process was as complicated as it was.

Went to Bestbuy today to pick up my BB/T-Mobile trade-in preorder - it was ready on Friday but today was soonest I could make it to the store.

No go -- they're still having problems with their system - couldn't process my trade in and complete the transaction.

Manager said it might be fixed this Tuesday but I won't hold my breath. I'd been planning to head out of town Monday evening for the week, not sure if I'll push to Tuesday or just what's gonna happen with my preorder. Perhaps I'll just cancel it and see if there's a better deal later in the year if the promo isn't still live. My XS is still working fine, what's another bit of a wait.

Brand new SIM. I put it in the phone. I had to contact T-Mobile to activate it. Not a big worry. I chose to activate it at home rather than there.

Anybody still have a “We'll email you when it's ready for pickup.” status on their order?

I have the same status. Ordered Silver 128 on Sat morning. I was at the store today and requested them to take a look. Unfortunately they had no clue on why the delay apart from no stock. No tentative date when this will be updated as well.
I have not received the delay email neither has my card been charged yet.
I’m now beginning to think this will take another week.

Serious question - given the shi t show that happens every year with best buy, why order from them?

Same as others mentioned, good savings for T-Mobile folks. Actually it almost exactly evens out if buying from Apple, but the money comes back over 2 years as a credit from T-mobile, so not as desirable.

But Best Buy has taught me why they need to add these incentives. Never again. Once I canceled my order I walked into my local Apple Store and got everything done same day in about 30 minutes. Easy as pie. It’s not even that I’m so impatient to get my phone, but btwn family, job, etc, I just can’t drop everything and go kill 3 hrs at Best Buy any old time. I had launch day set aside as “safe“ time to go but that didn’t really work out…

I preordered on 9/20, blue 128, and mini starlight 128. Both were supposed to be ready by 9/24, then of course got the "taking longer than expected" emails for both. As of today (Sun), still no change. Looking at the website, there's "none in stock within 250 miles" and "sold out." Get this. I'm in Cupertino. Looking at the Apple stores, they all have availability tomorrow. I only decided to use BB to avoid credit from t-mobile over 24mo thing if I bought through Apple. Had to stop by the store to get the lowdown of what's going on. Basically, not enough supply received, and don't know when more coming in. Sigh...

Picked up my preorders Friday and Saturday. If you have an activation issue, you can activate your new sim on tmobile's site. Happened to me at different bestbuys times.

Even more savings with BestBuy if you're in a state where sales tax is calculated on the net cost after deducting the trade-in.

Yeah - I figured I was "safe" in waiting until Sunday to go pick up my BestBuy preorder.

Nope.

Their software wouldn't process the trade in and I left empty handed.

EDIT - and of course BB sends an email this morning "if you don't pick your order up it will be cancelled"... Heading out of town tonight for a few days. Chat support agent can't extend the pickup date despite this being BestBuy's problem. Shoulda known better. BestBuy is just like Joe Pesci said about the drive thru...

Yeah it was a great deal. i Wasn’t even going to get a new phone this year until I saw a thread about the BB deal. I’d never ordered an iPhone from them before.
That makes sense! Didn't realize how lucrative the offers were. Idk it always seemed like people had issues, but I guess there is a price to be had for a little bit of a delay which I totally get.

Remember too that the folks who don't have issues tend not to post much about it. Or at least a lot less than the folks who do have an issue and are voicing their frustration... :p

I’d almost feel better if I had got at least some type of acknowledgement that my order is late
