The only feature on the S7 that gives me pause is the glass back. Having an additional large glass panel that can crack was a dumb idea on the iPhone 4/4S and it's still a dumb idea today.

I like the waterproofing, SD card capability, and larger battery.

The new phones (even the S6 series) did appeal to me, but I am locked in to the Apple ecosystem so much that its difficult to change to an Android phone - let alone a Galaxy.

I also wear my Apple Watch every day so its hard to part with that!

I'm happy with iOS and looking forward to the iPhone 7 Plus.

That's pretty much where I am. It would take a lot of work to pick up another OS. But as long as Apple keeps putting out good stuff, I'm not sure I really care.

after owning S7 for a month with its glory hardware (4GB RAM, big battery, removal storage, OLED, water resistant), you will come to realize that you are burdened with these daily
1) TouchWiz
2) bloatware from Samsung and Carrier that eat away your RAM, cpu resources, battery burn.
3) slow update from Samsung and carriers
4) unpolished app cause memory leak, cpu usage and battery burn fast, in addition to bloatware above.

samsung is not a software company and has no control of the OS security or updates. unfortunately, both good software and hardware are required for a full package.

The hideous iPhone 6 has set the bar pretty low for what manufacturers and consumers consider good design. :p

Spec wise i'm sure it's appealing to many though.

I like the fact that the SD card combines with the internal storage to just make one giant pool of storage. That's pretty awesome.

I'm so far into the Apple ecosystem it would be very hard to give it up for something else.
I was under the impression that the S7 will not have adoptable storage.

I like what Samsung is doing with their new phones from a design and hardware perspective. What has always bothered me is their UI/OS modifications and how long it takes to get updates. Hopefully Google/Android will re-evaluate how they do that going forward.
Yeah but waiting around for updates on Android isn't a bad thing. There are usually a lot of bugs in a major release and you need Google to iron out the bugs on the Nexus line before you want it on your bootloader locked phone.

I always get the new Sammy phones and then revert back to the iPhone. Until Samsung can match Apple's aftermarket support in terms of OS updates and tech/warranty support there's no way I'll make it my primary phone.
Samsung warranty service is awful.

The water resistance is intriguing. But I'll never use anything other than stock android, or damn near stock. There was a time where rooting and custom Roms was a hobby of mine but that time has passed. I'll probably play with a display infant some point though.
Rooting and custom ROMs are 2 different beasts. You can have stock Android and have it be rooted. In fact, that is what many of us prefer - that way you can install useful apps that need root, like Titanium Backup or the Xposed framework. Custom ROMs are something entirely different from root.

I myself have never run a custom ROM but I always unlock my bootloader, install a custom recovery and root my androids if that is an option. If it is not an option, I sell them. Selling my Note 5 here soon, sad, but I can't deal with the locked down bootloader.

And Sammy has toned down touchwiz tremendously.

That's a marshmallow option that samsung chose not to enable. It's a wise decision in my opinion. Too many problems from people used to removing them at will.
yeah that is what I thought too.
[doublepost=1456208455][/doublepost]
It has an SD card slot that can hold all of your photos, music and videos.
[doublepost=1456208517][/doublepost]

Virtually all of that can be disabled.

This is false. You need to read up on Knox and SELinux.

About to get on a Next plan and originally looking to get the 6s but man the S7 has a better screen, OIS for the camera, and more storage. Going to wait for reviews to hit first. What's interesting is the Edge has a 5.5in screen but is significantly smaller than the 6s+ and not much taller than my M8.

I agree, their non-nexus phone updates do take forever. I doubt it will ever change...HTC would promise to have updates in 90 days or less, but who really buys an HTC these days?!?![/QUOTE]
You get one update in around 90 days, and then you never get another update again :p. Th lack of any updates after KitKat 4.4 and onset of major lag was enough to make me switch

Galaxy S7 will have either a 32 GB or 64 GB storage in some regions.

You don't need the updates with Android, it works just fine.

yeah, Knox and Selinus... what is the market share? I can't find much info on it. I have android devices (Shield TV) but never heard of it. there alot of good tech in the industry but it never makes market mass.

the whole idea of an android phone can be rooted so easily. once you gain root access, everything else is compromised.

trusting Samsung for your data security is like trusting Sony to keep your data safe. sorry, you brought up a bad example of Samsung software.

I'm definitely going for the S7 Edge...There are pros and cons to the iPhone and other Android based phones. Some say you have to worry about bloatware, wait for updates, bad OEM software and skins on top of Android blah blah blah, but the Samsung's, LG's, Sony's and Motorola's of the world are advancing technologies and pioneering new ones with every release...meanwhile Apple is making everyone yawn with their iPhones.

1) TouchWiz: if you don't like it you can use Nova or another launcher
2) They offer more than just 16gb, plus expandable storage (so you don't have to worry too much about apps you don't use)
3) the phone runs fine out of the box, the updates aren't a big deal
4) apps work fine, more than enough power in the larger battery plus if the battery gets low it has superfast charging, plus wireless charging

Apple is beginning to bore many tech lovers and isn't really innovating at the speed other OEMs are...they have great software and hardware that work seamlessly together, but no Virtual Reality, no 360 degree cameras to have fun with, no robots to tinker with at home (like LG just announced), no wireless charging, no fast charging, no widgets, no expandable storage, no IR blaster to control peripherals, no removable battery, no curved edge display, no dual screen multi-tasking, no stylus, no dual screen displays, etc....

I preordered the S7 Edge and will keep my 6S Plus as well. I love having the best of both worlds.

For me the amazing style/build of the phone along with the camera sealed the deal. I had the S6 last year and was amazed at that camera and this one is even better. Samsung really nailed the camera down in terms of launching it, focusing fast, taking the picture fast, and awesome post processing.

I wonder how many tech lovers are actually becoming bored?

I think a LOT of tech lovers get bored with their current technology. That is part of what drives the new and exciting products being released. If no one bought them....no one would release them.

I was just asking as a tech lover myself (not really limited to phones) and I'm not bored of current phone. A lot to me would mean tens of millions; not a few posters on an Internet forum. Granted no one will really ever know that number.

Kind of derailed the original intent of the post, which was to imply that the reason the s7 might be very popular is that "a lot" of tech people get bored with their phones.

So basically this is just a generalization with a litany of why some phones are old tech thrown in.

I like the s7 seems like great hardware and can't wait to play around with it in the store. For those who purchase the phone they will be sure to enjoy it.

I think a lot of people get bored with their tech in general. I think they upgrade to the next gen even when their is no real reason to just because they are bored with their current tech.

As I already own the S6 Edge and seeing that I paid over 800 USD for it only to find that a few months later the same phone is to be had for a fraction of the cost, I'm going to wait until the prices drop significantly. I don't want to be unreasonable this time around and save myself a few hundred dollars, even if that new version is quite remarkable and tempting.
