I keep on going back and forth.

I can relate so much, it is really a mixed bag this. It is my most used tech gadget and I really LOVE it, still I am so FED UP with the constant abysmal battery life and buying a new unit will only give me some new months of ok-ish battery life again (especially since I don't want the 6,1") and then it is back to where I am now. iPhone SE 1 and iPhone 6S+ works fine as long as I keep them charged often during a day... Still, better camera and more storage... gah

I’m sitting on a $1,249 Pro Max that works and looks perfect - no real reason to upgrade at this time. One reason may be to move to the smaller size pro now that it has increased a bit in size. I could even move to the regular 13.

I’m definitely not upgrading. I think my XR will last me another year.
I bought a brand new XR still sealed in the box off of a lady on FB marketplace a couple months ago. She was a former Verizon employee who got her discount when she bought it. Long story short she just wanted what she paid for it which was 400$. I use it a back up Phone. 11 pro max is primary. Buying, selling, trading tech is fun to me. I get the latest and greatest and lose the least amount possible year to year. I’ll never be one of those people who spend any time on Mac rumors bragging how long they’ve kept the same phone. That’s boring. That’s not having fun. When I get my iPhone 12 pro max you’ll get to read my comments about it and I’ll let you know how much I’m enjoying it. Stay on the sidelines. That’s what life is all about it ;)

Keep sitting on it. If I can sell my pro max 256gb for 900$ or close enough to it I’ll jump on the 12 pro max.

Me, I'm not.

My iPhone X is still working fine, and also still has 86% battery health. I'll skip this year and maybe even next year's model. The only thing I want is the camera improvements. However, I can certainly wait on that as I'm hoping Apple will ditch the two-step staircase "bumps" of the current implementation. I would accept a couple of mm thickness gain to rid those. One "bump" was okay, but two... Ugh!

I'm also skipping the latest generation iPad again. I think I can last until the 10th gen. I was using an iPad 2 until the 6th generation.

My Mac has lasted eight years and still has enough pep -- after some upgrades helped it out. Although, I do intend to get the Apple Silicon Mac mini. Maybe not at launch, but probably the first-gen of that series.

So, you can see the patience pattern. :)

Iphone 11 Pro Max is fine for me right now. 5g is more of a marketing term and those fast speeds are reserved for MMWave right next to the tower, besides I dont need to stream 4k/8k video constantly at 1GB speeds. Interested to see if there is anything else improved or this is mainly the new modem, minor screen and proc improvements that arent needed aside for uber power users.

Your idea of fun. Personally, just thinking about dealing with selling on eBay/Swappa/CL gives me migraines. I also hate setting up a new iPhone despite how easy Apple's made it with their various backup and restore options.

That said, I do enjoy collecting iPads. Albeit, kinda been superceded by MCU stuff of late (4K Blu-ray steelbooks last year, Black Widow Hot Toys this year). :p

You haven’t done yourself any favours with a response like that. Read back through it and process the fact you’ve just mocked somebody for not buying a new phone every year. What a load of elitist tripe.

No need to upgrade this year. Both phones in the family (iPhone SE 2020 and Samsung Galaxy S10e) are doing what we need them to do.

All in good fun. Comments on Mac rumors aren’t going to make or break anyone. Sometimes I like to tease rather than please. Of course you can keep your phone for years or get a new one every year. Neither is wrong or right. I have many relatives that still have iphone 7 plus’s and they’re satisfied with them. if it’s not broken they don’t even think about upgrading. It’s just a means to an end. If he does read it and gets offended then my humble apology

Not sure yet. I currently have XS Max and skipped the 11. I don’t need to upgrade but I’m a nerd and like new toys.

Yeah, I can definitely see the allure of wanting the latest and the greatest tech.

But for me as I get older, I am getting a bit more practical. The newer phones in general are getting less and less innovative as the product matures. And at the same time, the "older' phones (especially iPhones) were very fast anyway at launch. And will last longer and longer. There are folks on here with 6S/1st gen SE's that run iOS 14 just fine.

And as phones get more and more expensive, more people are probably hanging onto their phones longer too. Sure it would be great to upgrade from my 8+ and get a nicer, faster iPhone. But are the newest ones *that* nicer and faster to make up the cost difference? Not to me and what I want to do with it.

So will most likely hang onto my 8 Plus for another year. Unless I am just wowed by the newest iPhones. But probably will wait until next year and/or the release of the rumored new SE Plus.

Sorry mate, it can be difficult to tell on here sometimes and I do see some Pompous comments on here at times. I realise now you were joking though.

I am batteling hard with my self if I should upgrade or not this year. I currently have an iPhone X 256 with 87 % battery life.

I don't do much photography so really don't need a new camera so unless there is some really cool feature being announced tomorow it would make much more sense just to get a new battery for my current phone.

But let's see what happens at launch date.

Yea from the rumors I been reading I think I am going skip this year and go with my 11 pro max for another year. I haven't really heard anything that WOW's me with the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The redesign, 5G, improved camera with AR stuff, slightly bigger screen, and improved battery life ( I guess). That doesn't do it for me also 5G is still to new and had stuff to be worked out before it becomes a big selling point I think.

I will still watch the event but pretty sure now that I am skipping this year. My mind is pretty much made up after reading the final rumors and stuff.

Why upgrade? The new iPhone 13 will be coming out in 10 months (September next year);)

Also this LOL. I think it makes a bit more sense to wait for the iPhone 13 (personally) because of the other improvements like 120hz, and hopefully some of the bugs and growing pains of 5G will be worked out by then. Also, apple stores will be kinda back to normal so no waiting for shipping from China madness like I did for my apple watch series 6 lol.

Have you had any connectivity issues? I’m on Verizon and I get surprised when I have a weak signal or lose connection in places where I didn‘t before the newest phones and I honestly feel it’s due to those Intel modems the last two years. I’m jumping on the QUALCOMM ship on the iPhone 12. And unlike you I’m looking forward to the camera improvements as well. So it’s a major major major go for me

I am on AT&T connectivity has been pretty good on my iPhone 11 pro max in the year that I have had it. I am in Virginia and 5G hasn't really hit here yet. We have the 5Ge stuff (not the real 5G). I am down for an improved camera as I use my phone for pics and to sometimes shoot short films for my freelance company. But I typically pay for my phones outright so I have to be a bit more selective about when I upgrade. But I will be living vicariously though everyone who is upgrading this year ha!

I won't be upgrading because I think the cost of these phones is too expensive and shouldn't be treated as a disposable device. I believe people should be keeping them for a minimum of 4 years.

I had a XS Max 256gb which was costing me £88 a month with 30 gigs of data. This broke 2 months ago and it was cheaper to buy a 256GB SE2 than fix the XS Max. I've since moved my phone contract to sim only where I now pay £20 a month for 100 gigs of data and unlimited minutes.

I've also not noticed that I can't really tell a difference between the XS Max and SE2 models. Yes the screen quality is better but its not standard def to HD difference.
