I tried doing the fix for diablo II and it somehow changed my graphics drivers to something bad. Unfortunately i cannot get into my mac partition so i am forced to use windows via boot camp. I do have mac drive and i can access my primary partition of os x but i need to replace my original drivers. How do i go about doing so?
You need to boot into OS X by holding down the shift key. This loads up a barebones OS X without any drivers installed. You will then need to download and install the Mac OS X combo update. I gather you are running 10.5.7, so that would be this one
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1057comboupdate.html

The driver replace trick does not work on 10.5.5 or above.

continuing in this thread's vein...

I am considering buying Diablo II, the expansion, or perhaps the battle chest. I have a 2009 2.66 iMac with the NVIDIA GeForce 9400 graphics card - OSX 10.5.7 -- does anyone know if it will work properly on my iMac? I'd rather not buy the game if it doesn't work properly.

Thanks :)

Should...I don't see why it wouldn't, given the GPU you're using. You might check Blizzard's site, though and verify that, just to be sure.

I use a 2009 13" MBP 2.26 Ghz w/ 9400M and the game runs with no issues.

Admittedly, I'm not the most tech knowledgable person out there, but I did search the site for quite a while and couldn't find appropriate verification to confirm if it worked on my Mac or not. Thanks, though - good idea.

That Mac will be fine.

I'll go full steam ahead

I need some help. I have been trying to get D2 LoD to work on this mac. I have tried putting the older video drivers on but than had to boot up into safe mode to removed them because it kept freezing before it would start up. I got to play the game for a little while in safe mode :p I just keep getting "d2 has quit unexpectedly". I have also tried holding the option and command button down while trying to load up the game (heard from another forum to try that). Im not to savvy with Macs as I am with PCs. I have checked many forums to find a fix for this! (Blizz and Mac). Is there a fix for this yet? I dont know what else to try. Unless I missed something while reading.

I found that by downloading the game from the battle.net site (once you upload your CD keys) has given me no issues what so ever with running the game. It was even the fully patched version of the game so no updating was required.

Earlier in this thread somewhere, there's a post by rbarris who provides a link to an installer which might work for you. I think it's on page 6 or 7.

Oddly enough, only Izual poses poroblems... AFAIK

Hi all, just registered for this. Here's hoping this isn't too n00bish...

I am running Diablo 2 LOD on two different machines, a G4 MDD with Tiger (10.4....11? I think, the latest update anyway), a 256mb ATI 9800 XT and some 2gb of ram, and on a mid-2007 MBP 15" with 10.5.8 and the 256 MB geforce 8600M, in fullscreen mode.

D2x runs fine, at least up to the point where I should encounter Izual on the Plains of Despair. Then, it just locks up. Cmd-Alt-Esc gets me back to the desktop, but I cannot play beyond Izual. This happens on both machines, so it can't be Rosetta.

You wouldn't know what the problem would be?

For what it's worth, I couldn't get D2 to run under Snow Leopard; thankfully, I have a Windows 7 RC 1 DVD so I'm using Bootcamp for my Diablo fix. :)

My Diablo II will not work. I have installed it off blizzard and have all the patches. It WAS working fine until i went to launch the game, and it just unexpectedly quits.. everytime.
I haveno idea what to do, any suggestions?

This works

Coming from the hackintosh world I can tell you how to do this, but haven't actually done it yet other then messing with the hack trying to get my system to work... couple ways to do this, but this is how I would do it...WARNING!!! This could mess up your system, and I suggest backing up the files before replacing, or having a manually downloaded 10.5.3 update in case it doesn't work right. Also know how to boot your system in safe mode.

For NVIDIA, if you have already installed 10.5.3...

1. Download/install Pacifist located here http://www.charlessoft.com/
2. Manually download the 10.5.2 update from apple here http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1052comboupdate.html
3. Then mount the update and open pacifist, drag the mounted image to pacifist and then install everything with regards to geforce kexts/bundles and NVDAN*.kexts. They will be under /System/Library/Extensions. This will require admin password. May want to verify/repair permissions with Disk Utility after. reboot. (BTW, I suggest replacing them all, but the previous poster only mentions the geforce kexts so may not need to replace the NVDAN kexts).

For the x3100...
Follow the same outline but instead of the geforce and NVDAN files replace the following:
AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext
AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext
AppleIntelGMAX3100GA.plugin
AppleIntelGMAX3100GLDriver.bundle
AppleIntelGMAX3100VADriver.bundle
AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext

If it doesn't work, reboot in safe mode and follow same outline but use 10.5.3 update and pacifist to put the 10.5.3 kexts back that you replaced.

I have not updated my MP to 10.5.3 yet because of this problem, but may try it shortly. My Macbook doesn't have Diablo II on it, but this would give me a reason to try it :)

You need the leopard graphics update 1.0 to find the files, but
I have the x3100 and this works for me if I install just those files not the whole package.

Sorry for the necropost, but those of us with the GMA X3100 are still being hung out to dry by Apple!

I get the basic gist if the thread, but if anyone could give me a rundown, I'd appreciate it.

My understanding is that to get to DII to work with intel macs, you'll need to dl the patch from the Blizzard site. And if you have a MacBook (the early 2008 model, there may be others as well) with the x3100 graphics card, you will need to download an add'l x3100 patch from http://www.macgamefiles.com/detail.php?item=20233

If you have the MB in question, dl that patch and then drag that patch onto your DII folder and drop it in there. From thence forward, you will open DII with that patch file name which is Diablo II Beta-for-X3100 (Carbon). If you download the entire DII from Blizzard, make sure you trash your old copy of DII (and its prefs just to be safe) or else you'll get the same crash (or nothing but a black screen) upon trying to hit "Play Diablo."

So, to continue for those with the x3100 MB: when you open the game with that X3100 patch, you'll get a screen that lets you configure your video. Choose "Configure Video" and hit the radio button on the left, it says "Software".

Then hit the right arrow in the bottom right of that box. Keep hitting the right arrow until it tells you you're finished or whatever. (This sets your monitor to 256 colors thus making it possible to play DII.) Then you can play the game normally in single player mode. That's about it. I just did it and played for about an hour, it works fine on my MacBook 2.4ghz (early '08) on 10.5.8. Good luck and happy hunting.

When you're in-game in Diable II, how to get back to desktop without quitting? I thought command-tab would work, but it doesn't.

You have to be running in windowed mode, which I'm not sure how you'd do in OS X. I actually dual-boot into Windows 7 because I could not get this game to work with Snow Leopard...and then I can play a few other games, too. :)
