1400 mAh battery to 2600 mAh ? Are you kidding me? That's a pretty huge leap.

But iPhone is iPhone. I can't really see myself switching.

You need that kind of power to run an 8 core CPU. Seriously, there is such as thing as too much CPU. Eventually it will make sense, but I'm not sure early 2013 is it.

Despite the terrible feeling I got from watching that keynote, I'll likely buy one. It's launching right when my upgrade is due. As far as leaving iPhone though, I already did that. For now. I'm excited to see iOS 7 this year.

Nope, not switching.

Funny thing about most of these gimmicks, is they'll be forgotten soon enough.

Also, seriously quad cores in mobile devices???
Nobody is running folding at home here guys.
Quad core GPU, that makes sense, quad CPU provokes an instant "da ***?".

But you can use it with gloves. That's innovation.

I will be sticking with my N4 and iPhone 5 for both worlds. I would never buy an Android phone that is not stock, so anything other then the Nexus line. TouchWiz is crap and ugly. Sense is annoying and HTC breaks multitasking even more with each new phone. Hardware buttons are also old now that I'm used to using the N4. All of these Samsung features just sound incredibly gimmicky and I would probably never use them. The only one that sounds half way decent is the hover zoom where you can hover over an email and it will expand to show you more info. But that's not enough to switch. I will continue to use my N4 as my main and actually get KLP when it comes out. And just in case Apple pulls a 180 with iOS 7, I will have my iPhone 5.

You obviously haven't. If your calling it junk, then your drunk; go home! Did you just watch the s4 keynote.... it was revolutionary.... something you icrap users haven't seen in years....

Revolutionary... Are you joking.

Actually only 4 cores are used at any one time.
High computation tasks trigger the bigger cores, otherwise it's just the smaller ones running the show; it's an implementation of the ARM big.LITTLE architecture.

Being able to use the phone on in winter? Check.
Being able to use it as a remote control? Check.
Being able to operate it without touching the screen? Check
Great new photo software? Check.

I don't have the SIII - but the Skyrocket. Will be upgrading as soon as I can.

As for the preso. While cheesy - it was exactly what an Android manufacturer needed to show. Too often Android manufacturers resort to tech specs and/or futuristic garbage that don't show real use cases of the phone.

The entire presentation, while cheesy, showed how real people can and will use the phone. For that reason alone I think it was a good presentation.

Video pausing while looking away? CHECK
Scrolling gesture with hand? Check ( for those who eat and hate touching the screen at the same time.

I'm definitely buying, ill probably transfer if iPhone 6 does any better.

a 1080p screen?

I'm selling my 5 too.

What do you mean with "being able to use it in the winter" lol ?

How about we wait to see what iPhone 5S/iOS 7 brings...;)

I'd go for the HTC One over the S4 however.

I saw the S4 video, and it is Amazing. I am undoubtedly switching. What about you guys?

If you are already sold on the idea of using Android-based phone for whatever reasons (e.g., need larger screen, you are heavily invested on Google's ecosystem), the better phone to buy would be HTC One.

Having said that, the only Android phone I would buy personally (if I had to abandon iPhone) would be Nexus phones. I don't like the idea of hacking and I don't like the idea of getting a phone that isn't easily upgradable to the latest version of the OS. Unfortunately, Nexus 4 leaves a lot to be desired and I think Google is about to lose control of the very platform it has created to Samsung and Amazon.

And although gimicky - I love the erase and drama photo options

Would've been better to say this rather than "using it in the winter."

I don't wear gloves in the winter.

True. I was typing quickly and that popped into my head. You can also use it in the summer, spring and fall if you're wearing gloves (biking, etc)

But you can use it with gloves. That's innovation.

Fair point, but the implementation appears to be relatively lackluster as per the leaked videos from BGR yesterday. I'll wait for actual reviews to see if this is actually a useful feature as opposed to a differentiating bullet-point that gets left by the wayside.

It looks like someone eat a bunch of plastic and crapped out a phone. Not only that but let's see how many tech blogs complain about Samsung using the same design iteration as the last one. The difference is the iPhone actually looks good and Samsungs looks like the designer had a nightmare about plastic, woke up and noted his nightmare and then made the phone based on it. Now the specs do look great but as I've seen with my own eyes and used with my own hands, they don't matter. The overall experience leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.

Make the device bigger so the battery can increase to cope with the over clocked CPU which Android needs to operate and still lags.

Keep the awful design which is neither good looking or ergonomic.

Introduce gimmicks that will be played with for 5 minutes out of the box and for forgot about.

And last of all, host the most cringeworthy product unveil Ive ever witnessed in my entire life. I feel violated after that.

I do not know what i was expecting from this one. Probably a waow effect that would make me rush and drop my old 3GS.
Still Nexus 5, Xphone and Note 3 coming "soon", i really need to upgrade!

I would say that the SIII to SIV spec and feature bump is as much if not more than the 4S to 5. Even the 4 to the 5.

I think both the iPhone and the more recent Samsung/HTC flagship phones are great. Good options all around.

That was a very polished and impressive presentation and a refreshing change from the norm. I think a lot of us went into the presentation not expecting very much and I think afterwards it left us with a pretty good first impression of the new handset. While nothing about it is shocking or amazing, it introduced a lot of new features that the average user will find very useful and at the end of the day, this is what matters most.

Will it be enough to cause some people to switch? Absolutely. I think a lot, actually..

Great job, Samsung. Keep up the good work!
