I have several delivery apps. UPS, FEDEX, Hermes, DPD etc.
The App Library has scattered these all over the place. Some in “finance”. Some in “social”, even one in “shopping”.

It’s pure hit and miss where they are located and can’t be changed. Madness.

No they cannot be re-grouped or re-named.

This is probably the no 1 reason I recently switched back to Android, just can't stand Apple's blatant disregard for common sense...like we all have to line up like nice little lemmings because Apple Knows Best.

The addition of App Library doesn't affect anything that someone has or uses as it can still be used just like before.

Thank you - that’s all I wanted...
I wonder if that is more of a consequences of phones getting larger and larger and if the numbers are fairly different with pre/non-Plus/Max sized iPhones.

App Library appears to be essentially automatically controlled (via developer and Apple details), while regular home screens, folders, and apps there are under user control (as they have been before).

Exactly!
And since it is weird to have vpn apps stored at different locations there is no sense in this library right now. Only when a user can change the tags, or if Apple does it and organises apps with the same functions at the same folder locations, this is going to work.
Maybe it will evolve into a better system that can completely replace the homescreen. But when I want to control the lights in my house, I want all the homekit apps grouped together and not on different lacations. Even when they are on alphabetical order in the same folder, they should be organized on their function.

It is unbelievable that so many users still not understand the app library.
Apple will NEVER give us the possibility to put an app in another folder.
Apple will NEVER give us the possibility to change the folder names or so.
That is not the approach of the app library.
Fully automatic, no changes.
It is NOT the second "I organize my apps in my folders". That is already there.
It is a system to organize the apps without any!! work by the user.

What about not being able to install it because your computer cannot update to a recent system and iTunes doesnt let you update it? How to be able to do a restore of a backup in case you need it ?
Plus it has things like app library that not only is not necessary in personal cases (mine)
You update when it 's easy to do it and worth it.
Not everyone likes vanilla flavor ,for example. 😊
Dairy Queen must remove chocolate dipped cones from its menu posthaste when I enter because, while I am free to never order it, I don’t like it. It’s unnecessary for my personal case, so why offer it?

Not the same.

Dairy Queen only lets you order vanilla with nuts. You can no longer order it without nuts even though you don’t like nuts, or are allergic.

One would like the option not to have the nuts.

That would actually not the same as the option is still there, just like it was before.

Adding a feature without being able to disable said feature is bad practice. But that’s par for the course for Apple lately.
Lately? It's been like that for all kinds of features for many years -- the very similar example of the Today View screen that has been there for years keeps on demonstrating that over and over.

Not everything by far has controls for it, including things that were there from the moment iPhone was introduced. And realistically that applies to all kinds of software and products from all kinds of properties.

Y'all came to Apple/iPhone somewhere over the past 10 years or so... and Apple has always been Apple - the walled garden has existed from the beginning... y'all knew what you were getting into and what Apple allowed you to do an didn't allow you to do... but now y'all just want to bemoan the lack options, and expect Apple to kowtow to your wishes. Sorry, guys, it don't work that way.

It may turn out to be of real use down the road. However at this point in time it’s far from the most useful feAture in iOS 14
Not being able to place the Apps in the folder I want or renaming it is annoying
Maybe ( but doubtful) Apple will explain it better at the iPhone 12 event ( hopefully)

Like most features there will be those that will be more useful to some and less to others. As far as its use that seems to be there to automatically help visualize the apps that are installed, in particular for those who don't really organize their apps. Perhaps Apple will highlight some aspects of it or expand on some functionality down the road.

You've been able to place apps in the folders of your choosing and name them whatever you want since iOS 4 in 2010.

Lots of us understand the App Library. And love it.

1 Yes, I had five pages (or was it six?) of folders and meticulously organized apps.

2 Now I have one home page with my most-used apps.

3 No more wondering in which folder—or on which page of which folder—a seldom used app is located.

4 No more having to find a place for a new app. It’s under Recents in the App Library.

5 I don’t have to spend time organizing apps or maintaining folders.

6 Now: home page or swipe right for Today view or swipe left for the App Library. Easy-peasy.

7 If I need an app for occasional use it’s likely in my Suggestions or Recently Added. If not, I type one letter in the search bar.

Was it designed by people with years experience in human interface design?
Because I think a bunch of kids, script kiddies, could do better.

Yes, I can pad a page and push it out of sight.

I also don't like the ordering and arranging of widgets. And that they are locked to page zero.

That app library can't default to list view. That the folders are illogical... they pay people to do substandard UI design?

That the folders are illogical...
In the App Library they are based on the categories associated with the apps in the App Store (set mainly by the developers). That said, potentially the developers (and maybe Apple) can perhaps do a better job with those categories.

Been with iPhone since the start. It’s not the lack of options that’s a problem. It’s adding options with no way to disable it. That’s the problem.
