Completely respect that you don't like it. And time will tell if they give an option to disable it. But going back to my comment about macOS and the Applications folder, I think that may be what Apple is going for, and in that case I don't see them giving a way to disable it.

Call it what you will, it's still bad design and there should be an option to disable it. I'm happy that you're happy with it, but we don't all share the same opinion.

Why hasn't that been the case with all kinds of things over the years (and still doesn't appear to be) though?

this is what i don't get: there are lots of features on our apple devices we can't disable; for example, the today page (which is a swipe right instead of a swipe left); we've survived that... yet this thread is endless, as if we'll get a toggle for the app library by whining on a forum.

i use neither (today page, app library), i just don't swipe to either, and, if i do, a swipe back and all would be well.

I wouldn't have a problem if it were just a an alphabetical list view. What I have a problem with is the illogical grouping convention and hideous layout of the App Library's main page. Yes, I know I don't have to swipe on it, but when I do I cringe. I won't spend any more time talking to walls.

🎶Hello Walls. 🎶

100% right there, its the way my Google Pixel did it and I had like two widgets and 3 apps on my Ariana Grande Home screen, icons placed where I wanted them, shaped like a lightening bolt. Then, one swipe over, all the app icons in Alphabetical order.

Note: It wasn't Ariana Grande, but I'm 57 and trying to sound hip AND show range, Willie Nelson reference at top.

If it truly moves apps in folder out of folder to the 3 based upon use it will make it a lot better for me. As for which apps goes in which folder I have 2 sky/star apps - 1 is in Education the other is in information and reading. Placement of things such as this doesn't make sense to me.
Since I really don't change my "old" screens much I still find it easier to use old method but I'm trying

the organization is based on the developer's listing in the app store, it's not user-adjustable.

really, i have no use for the app library either; i never swipe to it. occasionally, i've swiped to the "today" screen, and just swipe back... and have not suffered because of it. just seems such a non-issue...

For me, the only concern I would have in fully embracing the App Library is ending up with lots of installed apps I never use. Because of the layout of the App Library, it would be easy to just never notice these apps. But perhaps Apple could make the Offload unused apps feature (iPhone storage settings) more prominent to address that.

1 Delete unused apps when you see updates for them on the App store

2 Once in a while, go through the alphabetical list in the App Library and delete apps you don't need

Just because you hate it, does not equate to bad design lol.

I didn't see you making the same campaign for the Today view to have the option to disable it....

I'm sure you've ready ALL of my posts.

I might have done, since I am bored in hospital recovery, a lot of time to kill.

Illogical? The folders they are in are down to the category chosen by the developer, which has been stated numerous times, but I'm betting you're ignoring that, due to your childish hatred for something innocuous.

There are many people that love it and are using it. There's an audience for it, as it is. You just are blinded to it because you're having a tantrum.

Have a snickers, you're not yourself when you're hungry. ;)

Can you delete an app (completely remove it from your device) from the App Library or the alpha list? I have not been able to... if you can, seems to be a pretty convoluted process... so far, I've had to find it in the App Library, move it back to my home screen and then delete it from there. Am I missing something?

I just tried it and I can remove apps from the app library by just long-pressing on them (see screenshot):

However, there doesn’t seem to be a way to remove an app when in the list view.

What you had/have doesn't get changed or affected -- it's still there and you can still use it like you did before.

I'm aware of that. But I should still be able to hide the widgets page and the App Library page, just as I can my other home pages.

An option like that would be nice to have (although even with home page hiding that wasn't something that wasn't aground for years).

That said, that wasn't really what was mentioned in the post that my response was in reply to.

I know that you don’t like it and thinks it’s a bad design, but I personally love it. Back pre-folder days I had my apps arranged on screens according to the type of app they were, Games, News, Entertainment, etc.
this harkens back to that (I stopped that once we got folders and just did everything in folders on the home screen instead). But obviously better.
The App Library is great and quietly maybe the best update to the OS.

It seems the actual folders themselves within the app library move around of their own accord? If so that’s a bit annoying, it helps to be able to know where the folder is when you go in there...

Really? If I recall correctly my folders didn't change but I could also be wrong. Wouldn't like it if they move around.

Yep just confirmed the folders move!! I’d rather they didn’t to be honest, apps moving within the folders is one thing but when the folders don’t stay where they are it’s a bit less intuitive...

I'm not fond of the automagic grouping of apps, particularly since it appears to be completely non-customizable. My solution? Just don't use it. When I'm looking for an app from one of the pages I have chosen to hide, I just use search to find it. I probably WOULD use App Library if the automatic groupings and group names were customizable.

If the automatic groupings were customisable, then they wouldn’t be automated. Plus they would just be like the folders on the Home Screen if they were customisable, which is not the purpose of the library. Glad you have your own way to use your phone that works for you.

I adopted it fully but I still do not like it. My family tinkered around with my phone for a few days and decided not to upgrade at this time. I will say that I have deleted any and all possible apps, down to the bare minimum. It helps to reduce the clutter. It is basically phone, text, authenticate, camera now.

Maybe it gets better with updates.
