Apps are one thing that'll likely convince me to get an iPhone. I was just browsing the App Store and found a few things I've been wanting. One thing that I don't see, however, is an ssh client. I know that ssh clients are available for the current iPhone but they require you to jailbreak the phone first. Does anybody have any idea if/when an ssh client might be made available through the App Store so one wouldn't need to go the route of jailbreaking?

nope ssh will never be allowed

"Normally if you choose to update, the iPhone or iPod touch software is updated but your settings and media are not affected. If your device currently has a software version prior to 2.0 (1.x) and you are updating to software version 2.0 or later, all data on your device will be erased in order to perform install the new software."

I understand from reading that full page that a backup will be offered. If you make the backup, data should then be restored once 2.0 is installed? Is this correct?

Yes. I'm just aggravated that I'll have to wait for all my music/vids/movies to re-sync.

If you hold down the option key and click check for updates it gives the same dialog as when you click the restore button. I guess one will restore the ipod and the other option will update the ipod.

what do u mean all data? music? videos? and will this work for the ipod touch?

he was joking, you will have all your music on there after updating ......... unless ou have jailbroken then you need to restore

2.0 is infact ready for download on Apple's servers! Enjoy! *might be old.. I don't know* :D

this is newer than the latest beta (build 5A345) your link it build 5A347........... and will activate in iTunes 7.7 today ;) ............. with an iphone not a touch

I'm very pleased with all these updates!

I've found all the applications I need for my iPod touch, and they're all free!

Apple did a great job with this :D

No. 2.0 REQUIRES a full restore. You cannot update from 1.x.x to 2.0. The inner system is ENTIRELY different so you have to sync all your data to 2.0 again. :D

ssh is basicly screaming "jailbreak me" of course they wont allow it ssh basicly gives access to the core OS System which apple will never allow

I'm trying to hold off on downloading every app I see that I want. I'm saving some to download straight from my iTouch. The wait is killing me.
