What am I doing wrong? I downloaded the file but when I go to restore and select the download file everything is grayed out. What am I doing wrong?

ssh is basicly screaming "jailbreak me" of course they wont allow it ssh basicly gives access to the core OS System which apple will never allow

Um, I said ssh CLIENT, not ssh SERVER. An ssh CLIENT would let me connect FROM the iPhone TO remote hosts. It wouldn't provide access to the core OS on the iPhone. I've used dozens of ssh clients on a wide range of operating systems and none of them "gives access to the core OS System".

if you're wondering how to change the firmware manually, download the file, and rename it to a ".ipsw" file (since it downloads as a ".ipsw.zip" file.) you should see it turn from a zip file into a lego cube with an itunes/ipod logo on it. then hold down option (or alt) and click restore, select the .ipsw cube and continue.

i haven't tried it, i'm just letting you know how to do it.

please also note that linked ipsw is for iPhones and will cause iPod users problems

You might want to join this discussion (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/515313/) instead, but basically I think you have to either stop your computer from automatically unzipping it, through some preferences in Safari or Firefox, or rezip it? Either way, the folder needs to be intact as one .ipsw file for it to work.

WARNING - Dumb Question

I'm curious as to whether I can download apps for my 1st generation iPhone, and in a few weeks if I decide to buy the iPhone 3G, can I install the purchased ones on the new phone or will I be forced to repurchase the non-free apps?

Sorry for a dumb question.

Navigation App

Is there any type of navigation apps on there...? I can't use itunes at work to check out the store!!!

I think our computers are unzipping the file so what we see is a folder. This explains why we are seeing the folders grayed out

That's exactly what it did the first time. When I downloaded it a second time it didn't unzip it. I removed the .zip and now iTunes is in the process of updating my phone. :D

Frommer's San Francisco - Free
Frommer's New York - $9.99

Why?

Also, I think it's kind of lame that Flickr charges for their app when you can get it on other phones for free.

I'm at work so I can't access the store, but has anyone seen an app that does video recording? I can't imagine one not popping up.
