Yeah let’s just make upgrading £160 headphones every year or two the norm, hey.

Are you mad? No normal person is going to want to start upgrading AirPods, iPhone, Mac, Watch etc every two years. You’re already seeing the decline in revenue for Apple by them attempting this strategy. It will work with the hardcore but there’s no way I’m getting sucked into the mentality of upgrading every time a newer version comes out.

I’m just going to roll with USD here to keep it simple, but please hear me out.
I got three years out of my original pair of AirPods, where we didn’t even have the option of getting AC for it. Battery life is next to nothing at this point, barely holds its charge. But hey, I got three years out of it.
A new of AirPods Pro, with an additional cost of $29 for AC, I’m sure I can get at least four years out of it. How? Get the battery serviced before AC expires, ride it for another two years (if not longer) and call it good.
$279/48 months is $5.80/month. What is that? Cup of coffee? Tall craft beer somewhere? Your tip on a $14.20 bill since you felt generous and rounded it up to $20?
There is no need for an “average” consumer to update their products every “X” years. However, your $X iPad that you got 7 years ago may be living its last days. Your $Y MBP that you got 8 years ago may not be supported anymore. Your $Z iPhone that you got back in 2013 may not be compatible with 5G soon. Your $A AW that you got back in 2015 might be showing its age by now, lagging, battery not holding its charge, etс.
I don’t understand why some people have the entitlement of “I spent so much on this device, it should last me forever.”
Technology changes. Devices that you purchase in your every day lives won’t last forever. They may still be in mint condition after a decade of ownership, but they sure will become obsolete someway. That’s the reality of it.
Cheers!

mine wouldn't update for about an hour or so. Then just unplugged from usb and plugged back in and was updated within a minute or so. Did a gym workout with them tonight and ANC seems as good as before and overall sound subjectively a bit smoother, cleaner bass. But could just be the streaming quality too. No complaints with earlier fw and this update certainly didn't seem to break anything.

Good points. I think people fail to realize the increasingly wide growth in our devices being seen as disposable by manufactures. While I fully support Right to Repair I just don’t see those days returning. Obsolescence is not only designed into software but hardware as well today.

Airpods or any earbud for that fact should be seen as a disposable purchase. Good for 2 years. I you obtain longer life then it’s frosting on the cake. :apple:

Mine APP‘s won’t update. My AP2’s updated quickly. Guess I’ll try leaving them plugged in overnight and see. I’m not going to sweat it. They’ll update at some point.

Same issue with my APP
Also tried overnight and they still are on the previous firmware = 2B588. They don't update to 2C54.

I have 3 sets of APP, 1 for me, 1 for wife, 1 for daughter. My pair updated with no problem. Both my wife's and daughter's only updated to the 2B588 and no matter what, since Christmas Day, they won't update to the newest like mine did. The only difference is the phone models. I have an 11 and they each have 8's.

It will happen. It just might take time.

Mine are stuck on 2B588, too, and they are on the Charger for two days with a phone connected to them, which is on a charger, too.

I think that Apple pulled the latest firmware 2C54.

I’m on 2C54 and I’ve noticed issues with my right APP disconnecting. Happened on both my peloton and iPhone. The left will stay connected during it all. Really annoying.

If that's the case, I'm glad they haven't updated. Hope they are going to fix this.

I’ve had no issues on my APP. You can’t take one isolated case as being indicative of overall issues.

That said, it is odd that the rollout is not working for some. My APP updated right away.

Do they sound good to you? That's the main thing to be concerned about, not a version number on a screen (in this case).

Not necessarily true, i want the latest firmware to ensure performance, battery power etc are at their best

My APP’s have had two updates since I purchased them at launch. I don’t notice any difference in their performance with either update. Mine work great Even though the right bud never has passed the fit test.

My airpods pro just updated to version 0C80, hopefully the static noise that popped up once in a while with the old firmware is now gone.
Would love it if Apple could share a changelog, anybody found one on the internet?
