Here’s the shortest screen recording example of the issue. I have better ones but for privacy reasons I’ve uploaded this one...

You need to be quick to spot the initial battery level of 71%, before the widget expands to reveal the L Airpod dropping to 43%...

I bought my AirPod Pro 5 days ago and they are have been on 2B588 the minute I took them out of the sealed package. I will put them in the case and have my phone on the charge to see if things change.

The process is to have the Airpods on charge & next to the device they’re paired with which doesn’t need to be charged.

Been there, done that. Have listened to music for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 minutes, and hours. I have had the AirPod Pros charging next to my phone for hours with no updates. It's fine, they seem to be working just fine.

Not worries. We all make mistakes. Interesting that you have managed to update to 2C54 as no one else seems to be able to do that and my factory fresh AirPods are on 2B588 which was the previous gen.
I’ve had the APP’s since the end of November. So I guess the update to 2C54 was done in a “normal” update cycle.

Hmmm 0C80 is back
APP’s are on the charger, opened the case and voila.
[automerge]1578042008[/automerge]
So I took the APP's of the charger, firmware stayed on 0C80... rebooted the phone and 2C54 returned.
It might be because I've paired them to an Iphone 6 which is on IOS 12.4.4, had to temporarily downgrade from an Iphone 7 on the latest IOS.. new phone is on its way.

Sry i must have been misstaken. Although I’m sure this morning I saw 0C80 it now identifies the firmware version as 2C54. ?

Really sorry about the confusion. Will double, no triple check what it says and make screenshots next time. ?

[edit]
Just a quick thought...
Could I’ve interrupted the firmware update process and it defaults to 0C80?

Appreciate you re-checking = ) All good and thanks for letting us know-

So, I received some AirPods 2 on 12-23-19. I've used all the information in here to update from 2A364 to 2C54. I've recharged several times for long periods with both the top open and closed with my phone next to it. Nothing I remain on 2A364. The only thing I have not done is a reset, which I don't think should be required.

My son purchased AirPods 2 on 11-30-19 and his updated to 2C54?

My questions are:

1. Am I doing anything incorrect ?
2. Has anyone who purchased a set of AirPods 2 post 12-23-19 successfully updated to 2C54, or is 2A364 the only firmware out there as of today for AirPods 2? It seems to me the update is no longer available? Am I correct? I can't seem to get an answer regarding this.

It's not that big a deal, as I'm fine with the operation of my AirPods. I'm just trying to understand why they have not updated over the past 11 days when my sons updated quickly in the beginning of December?

Thanks. :)

I have both the AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro. The Pro updated to 2C54, the latest software on its own. The AirPods 2 can not and will not update no matter what I try.
They are still on 2A364.

Although Apple has not said anything officially about this, the consensus here is that the 2C54 update has been pulled and likely in the time between the time your son got his APP and you got yours. So, its not anything you’re doing incorrectly: the update just isn’t there right now. I’d expect that it (or a replacement version) will appear shortly after Apple returns to work next week.

So, if my AirPods Pro are on 2C54 should I be concerned?

As far as I can tell, this is some silly bug in iOS. It happens to my APP occasionally. And then they "revert" back to version 2B584.

My APP are paired with an iPhone XS running iOS 12.4.1.

Since Apple has given no public explanation about the matter, I assume this is just poor software QA.
Thnx, nice to know that it isn't just me seeing things. ?

I don't think i've noticed a change myself, but i'm very curious to see what they find.

Well I am just back from a Genius Bar appointment. I was complaining about the degraded ANC, I have used original, 88 and now the C firmware. Conclusion is wait for a Firmware update. There is nothing physically wrong with my APP and she thinks the next update should correct the problems.

Guess I have to wait.

rtings Had already talked about the second update. Ready carefully the whole AirPods Pro review.

they wrote:

Update 12/04/2019: After receiving multiple reports of the ANC being worse than before after the 2B588 firmware update, we retested the Apple AirPods Pro's noise isolation performance and didn't get noticeable test result differences. Apple might have tweaked the ANC, but not enough to noticeably impact the overall performance.

Someone in another thread posted that they had their pods swapped out and both are on 2B588 and ANC is back to normal so it may not be a firmware issue

keep in mind that every time a user swap it works like a charm. Only the short time use (1 month or so) can tell the truth.

Yesterday i ask to a friend that has just received his unit via online order the hardware no. and it's still 1.0.0.

The firmware is obviously 2B588, because there's no more 2CXX.

After a week your unit is still ok?

I quote here what i wrote about ANC on another forum:

What do you think?

If I'm driving with rain and I turn anc ON i cancel more than 90% of the noise.

If I'm at the gym, with the ANC i can cut the a good 60/70% of the noise.

If I'm at my working desk with people taking at the phone I can cut something about 40/50%, depends on how loud they are talking. The same happens if a collegue strokes hard the keybord: the ANC can cut around the half of the noise.

If I'm alone at desk and I can clearly hear a collegue talking in another room ANC can cut almost 100% of the voice.
