I believe you can switch the double-tap command to stop and start the audio, rather than summon Siri. This is whta I'll likely do since I'm accustom to using Siri on my watch or the phone itself. I will miss not being able to switch tracks or adjust the volume. If after trying the AirPods out for two weeks, it remains annoying, I'll return them and give the BeatsX a try. For me, the X1 chip's ability to switch the audio source easily between iPhone, iPad, and MBP is the main feature I'll enjoy.

is it true that you can only skip songs and adjust volume by using Siri and not f.e. tapping/ticking on one of the AirPods?

I was enthousiastic, but I am on the train for about 5 days a week and I am not gonna talk in space (''hey Siri, next song'', ''volume up'') while people sitting next to me on the train... haha

EDIT: jup, can only use them with Siri.
Gonna check out Braghi, you can simply tap/tick on the earpieces and skip songs and adjust volume
yeah you will have to use your phone or if you have the apple watch..which luckily i have so no issues here

I think that Apple have got this wrong because the whole idea is to be able to keep your phone in your pocket and quietly change your listening preferences. Its pointless having to get your phone out everything you want to make a change.
I have the watch so it wont be an issue for me but i can see that it would put many people off.

If Samsung, HTC or some other brand made a set of wireless headphones and you had to use phone to skip tracks or adjust the volume, can you imagine how many people would be making fun of them.
really though if you wanted to do it just via the pods is saying hey siri skip next song much of an issue?

It would be for the guy sat next to you on a train or plane if you were asking Sri to change tracks every few minutes
I'm sure if you were sat down on a plane or train you would be more likely to use your phone though surely? i think using siri for skipping tracks is more likely when walking through town/park/work e.t.c

I believe it's only a matter of time before Apple implements volume and other controls on the airpod. They just wanted to start out slow and simple.

You're right in that the Apple Watch is best used for Airpods control.

This may also be the killer app that most have been waiting for: the AW music controls app.

Since the Watch OS3, I have used the music control app instead of BT earpieces. With so many listening devices, they each have varied controls. It's easier to use the Watch for all the activities of volume & selection adjustments.

It seems to be a subtle consideration and may have tremendous favorable results for the success of both the AW and Airpods. It's possible that most AW users will get Airpods. That would be about 15M very quickly.

If Siri worked right more than 50% of the time I suppose it wouldn't be.

The ideal way is with the watch and maybe apple are hoping that people will also get the watch for ease of use but that is one big load of ££$$ to layout.

I don't think Apple will be able to do that on version 1 of the Airpods. The accelerometer really limits the kinds of inputs you can make to the device. Plus, with Apple advertising the ability to use one at a time, I'd think they would want to include all available controls on each Airpod.

Their understanding of end of October usually means very close to the end of the month. The event on Thursday could be a very possible release date.

Well Powerbeats3 went live for Nov1-3 delivery so I guess we're close to a airpod and BeatsX release as well.

You're able to control the air pods from the watch??!! If so, that's great! I didn't even think of that.

Is this controlling music that's on the phone? (I haven't added any music to my watch) so I'm hoping it can used for content thaT'S ON THE PHONE
