Are you sure about that? Can you provide source?

This is from my confirmation email when I upgraded to the X last year. As you can see they include the upgrade payment in the order itself.

Currently a part of the iUP and was able to get pre-approved with no problem. My credit is even frozen. I was a little concerned that might be an issue but it worked fine.

They did a hard pull when I first signed up for IUP, but subsequent upgrades have been approved without checking credit reports.

only if you are upgrading after an year. if you upgrade after 2 years then its a hard pull again as at that time you have already paid off the phone!

This is my first year using the upgrade program, but I’m digging this 1 click & ready to buy instantly. So in theory I should be able to wake up , click buy & go back to sleep lol

So I currently have a 256GB iPhone X on IUP. Unfortunately I used both accidentals with Apple Care so in order to hand in the phone and upgrade I believe it will be $550 at pickup of my iPhone XS Max. Whereas, the balance on my iPhone X is about $700. Does anyone know if I will be able to pay the $700 balance at pickup and keep it or am I forced to pick one of the trade in options?
Confused
Does Apple make you start a new AUP program if you get new iPhone with AppleCare?
Upgrade eligibility is 12 months payment amount.

it will just add them to ur balance due at order.

i tested this last week on iphone 8
Ok, that's easier having me pay the extra two payments at time of pre-order.

How do I get pre-approved or am I already pre-approved as I'm on the iPhone Upgrade Program?

I’m eligible but Citizens does not recognize my SSN. Called them. They said it’s glitch. Said to enter it as other SSN but that starts another application. Should I do that? Won’t that be hard pull? Cause I’m normally soft pull when upgrade time comes around. I hope it gets fixed soon.

Is anyone calling Citizens to make that extra "12th" payment? It's stated in the Apple Store app that "You can upgrade to iPhone XS by paying off the remaining balance of your first 12 monthly payments." but doesn't tell you how to pay that. The Citizens One loan page does not actually allow you to make a payment online (unless someone could guide how).
I called. It takes 72 hours for the payment to post. That’s after Friday...

they won't let you get pre approval for their payment plan which is different than the upgrade program. sucks because I have a trade in and that cant be used with the upgrade program but can with the payment program

You can actually pay off the remaining balance of the 12 month at check out when you pre-order. You'll be charged the sales tax (if applicable? depending on state, + your first month of the new device + what you owe on your current plan).

I had to do this last year. I started the iUP with iPhone 7 Plus in October 2016. So when the pre-order started for the 8 Plus, I had to pay the 12th month at check out.

You do have to call Citizens One to make an extra payment instead of through the website. I processed my extra payment with them last week, and I'm ready to go.
No you don't have to call Citizen Ones to make an extra payment. This can all be done at check out. It will just tack on the amount you owe currently at check out. That's what happened to me last year when I upgrade from 7 Plus to 8 Plus, as I enrolled in October 2016. At the check out for my pre-order, the last payment was added to the cart.

Apple sent me a message about getting ready. 5 min later I am pre-approved to upgrade and my preferences are already set.

Checkout should be nothing more that a few clicks.
