HDR drives me crazy! You don't get more contrast by making white pixels brighter. I want to go back to the pre-HDR days - HDR is nothing but an excuse to improperly display a (1,1,1) pixel next to a (254,254,254) pixel.

Also to the people complaining about the specs - the UK site now correctly shows all models with 16 Gb memory. I can't believe the whining in the first few pages when the pages were clearly not updated yet.

Depends on the games, the games I play are as good or better on my Mac

My MacBook Pro handles massive fights in wow better than my sons pc I built - 5600x 6600 pretty much what a ps 5 is
That's a pretty mid-tier spec even at the time you built it.

A full-spec gaming PC will slam a Mac. Back in the day, my then top-spec gaming PC was 10% faster than my iMac 5K with AMD graphics. That was one of the best "gaming" Macs Apple ever made. Since they went to Apple silicon and dumped traditional GPUs, for gaming they are pretty weak.

X-Plane is a good example - XP12 is far slower on a Mac than a PC. I keep looking for reasons to move from PC to Mac completely, but can never quite get there.

It's a shame the iMac 5K only had 4 Gb of VRAM because it would have been an excellent computer right up to today. The VRAM was too limiting for my use-case.

It's mainly going to stock buybacks and fighting an increasing slate of legal challenges, compliance mandates and penalties around the world.

There is very little evidence that Tim is investing more than the bare minimum on R&D

They sure wasted a ton on the car and AVP projects though ... ugh..
Hmmm... That is a wildly inaccurate assessment.

Although they may have wasted some monies on some projects, that is par for the course for R&D. However, Apple spent $30 BILLION on R&D last year, which represented a large increase from the year before. Furthermore, worldwide in 2022, Apple was the 4th largest spender on R&D, ahead of companies like Microsoft, Samsung, and Huawei.

Yes you do indeed get more contrast by making white pixels brighter. That's how contrast works after all. However, that is not the only way to get more contrast, and good contrast is just one characteristic of a good monitor amongst many.

I have a macbook pro from 2013 and it has 16GB of RAM.... 11 years later the max you can get on an imac is 32??? Really???

Oh I agree a top tier gaming system will blow these Mac’s out of the water but that why I specifically stated it depends on the games you play. I play mmorpgs most of which are old but updated & are mostly processor dependent
But like I also stated, that system has a stronger processor but 1 step down graphics from a ps5

I do wow, eq, ffxiv, swtor. I’m in my late 50s and haven’t been a gamer kid in awhile. Those games are finally great on a Mac

Anyone have any thoughts on if the speed / power of the upcoming mac mini will be comparible to the imac? was thinking the Mini would be the way to go for me.

Eff you Apple!!! Obviously there are a myriad of iMac Intel-based users out there that haven't migrated to the M series Macs because one of their selling points is, "Up to 6x faster than the most popular Intel-based iMac". And I believe the most popular Intel-based iMac they are referring to is the 27" version. Being one of those owners of a 27" iMac I couldn't give 2 shishes if the new M4 iMac is up to 6x faster than the most popular Intel-based iMac if it's a 24" iMac. No matter how they cut it, it's a step down as far as screen size is concerned. Also don't give me a neutered iMac with just an M4. They should come with at least an M4 Pro if not an M4 Max. Heck if Apple decides to put out an M4 Ultra, throw that beast in there too! Either way I'll hold out till the very end before I get another Mac. If they release a 30" iMac with just the M4, I'll probably bite the bullet and reluctantly pony up my hard earned money for one. But I still believe they'll fly out the stores with the higher powered M4's!!!

Personally would love it if they make one with the M4 pro chip but with this screen size
I know that's perhaps a bit strange but I would love to see that

or this display separate so I can pair it with a Mac mini. I am not interested in the overpriced studio display.

Nice color with that green btw
Apple is still trying to steer customers to the Mac mini and the Mac Studio for those who want more horsepower. They've been shooting themselves in the foot ever since they decided to pursue this marketing strategy. Mac sales have suffered more ever since they did away with the higher powered and larger sized iMacs. Hopefully sooner rather than later they'll figure out the error in their ways and give people what they've had and always wanted. GET WITH THE PROGRAM TIM APPLE!!!

The iMac is the same price as the previous iMac with better specs, it’s a solid upgrade, what’s the problem?
It's still a neutered version of the previous Intel-based iMacs. They at least came with the option of more horsepower not to mention size!

an iMac Pro would use an M4 Ultra
I could see an iMac Pro having an M4 Pro or M4 Max also like the MacBook Pro's. Apple might throw in an M4 Ultra just for the heck of it. The problem is, is that they seem to be marketing their desktop Macs like this: iMac - M4 only, Mac mini - M3 and M3 Pro (Soon to be M4 and M4 Pro), Mac Studio - M2 Max and M2 Ultra (Possibly upgraded to the M4 Max and M4 Ultra), and the Mac Pro - M2 Ultra only (Possibly upgraded to the M4 Ultra). Being as such an iMac Pro would probably be an outlier. As an iMac Pro with an M4 Max and M4 Ultra would cannibalize the meager Mac Studio and Mac Pro's sales, Apple would be more than reluctant to include these processors in the iMac Pro. This would leave the iMac Pro to compete with the Mac mini with the M4 or M4 Pro. I'd say it's a toss up as to that happening. They may bite the bullet and push ahead with a 30" iMac Pro with either an M4 or M4 Pro to alleviate the wellspring of Intel-based iMac holdouts. Here's keeping my fingers crossed for just such a 30" iMac Pro or better!!! 🤞

Love the colours. Pink is actually pink now instead of it red. Green is very nice. In fact all the colours are fantastic. Will have a hard time choosing one.

There’s just something about a sharp bright 32” 4k display that I just cannot give up to go back to 24” 4k display. I could compromise and accept a 27” 4k display but 24” is just too small for an iMac.

Has the configs leaked already?
Yes. Look at the MacRumors front page. Only the top end is known so far though.

Leaving money on the table means Apple will make even more money if they came out with a larger screen sized iMac.
Yes I am aware. I’m just saying there is no good evidence that Apple is leaving significant amounts of money on the table here, since Mac revenue has actually gone up since the 27” iMac was discontinued.

nah, the intel iMac Pro had a Xeon, so an M4 Ultra would be more likely for an AS iMac Pro
