It will be VERY interesting to see how Samsung prices the Galaxy A36 if they decide to make it available for the US market. That could be a very compelling alternative to the iPhone 16e.
36? Damn there's like 10 models before that!

If the SE 3 had a starting price of $429 USD in 2022, then that would be about $465 USD in 2025 due to inflation.

Does the increase in storage, USB-C, Apple Intelligence, better battery life, etc. warrant a $134 increase?

Price and no MagSafe kill this for me.

Ah well, I’ll get a new (non-Apple) battery for my trusty 12mini and hope that Apple come up with something better in 2-3 years time!

Or migrate to Android and the Google Pixel family, so much more and better hardware and software for the money.

Tim Apple needs to be harder trying to penetrate the budget phone market. If I was buying a new iPhone, idgaf about specs. $599 is high price point.
With a 6.1" OLED screen and an A18 chip, why would any have gotten a regular 16 if it was 500?

Think the issue here is that they need to think 5-6 years out for support, and they felt they needed that A18 with 8gb of RAM in there. Then, they also weren't going to make another phone with a home button, so that meant at least 6.1" screen/phone packaging. Don't know why they couldn't have kept the LCD screen as it's perfectly fine for a budget price point, but maybe switching to all OLED displays made it cheaper for production or something? But, the problem presented is once it has an A18 and OLED, and is basically the same size as their regular phone...how do they differentiate it at all? That's likely why they kept the notch, went single camera, and cut magsafe.

Just my guesses, and I too am disappointed it couldn't be 499. Although that price is probably what it will be next year.

On naming ...

I guess 16e does roll off the tongue better than 16 RipOff
Someone already mentioned it 16 E(mbarrassing). Apple surely depends on its loyal fanbase with this because it won’t attract any newcomers to the platform.

Let’s hope it gets an update on a yearly base. Maybe we’ll get macsafe and 120hz refresh rates next year 🤭

I was prepared to be underwhelmed, but somehow Timmy manages to underwhelm me even more.

Bro not only that the camera sucks : no 0.5 like iPhone 14, no action mode, no video cinematic mode…

And don't forget screen size. That alone is worth most of the price increase.

The SE 3 always was a bad deal IMO. It was cheap, but it sucked.

No magsafe seems like a huge miss. That's a deal breaker for me. I am surprised Apple left this out. I wonder if it was do to cost, or manufacturing/space issues.

Even the new google pixel 9a will have MagSafe. Google leaked the specs of the new phone this morning just before the Apple release. Tim Cook has totally lost his way, the Google pixel is going to dominate this iPhone in sales. Tim really needs to step down.

This spells the end of iPhone SE, we can waive goodbye for cheap affordable iPhone. $899 for a budget devices is delusional at best, especially in this economical environment. A Mac mini M4 that does do much more than a phone cost $100 less than this.

It is ridiculous to charge $899, this is essentially same strategy that Apple used for pervious iPhone SE model. A single camera, a 60Hz screen, recycled iPhone 14 phone case, 128GB storage.

Especially given this phone with brand new Apple modem, this should be a lot cheaper than $899. We will see how new Apple modem compare with Qualcomm one, but I am not confident Apple's new modem.

Some people, not me, like that small size though. I do prefer the normal pro over the pro max though. There is a sweet spot for a phone.

Apple really hates red now, for some reason. Red was a nice option for the SE, as well as for the Product(RED) line. I wonder why they've dropped red from their products.

My honest guess is the red color required Apple to DONATE on each unit sold. Apple
Is getting cheaper (how is this possible?) these days and probably wants to cut back as much as they can in having to spend any money. The red color was awesome and it needs to make a comeback

Are you in Canada? Cuz that $899 is misleading for non-Canadian readers. It's US$599.

BTW, if I weren't passing down my old iPhone this year, this is the exact phone I'd buy for my kid. I wouldn't never buy the SE, and the kids don't want the SE either.

The problem for Apple is you are by far in the minority. Very few people want small phones. Not even kids. The kids only get the SE because the parents force it on them.

The only price Tim Apple cares about is stock price not retail price.

Agree that if they'd aggressively priced this as per the last SE, it would negate the vast majority of eye rolls and thumbs down.
Also cannablize their sales of the regular 16.

Strange question but, I don't use magsafe to charge but I have the phone stick to a magnetic mount in my car. Would a magsafe case be enough to carry on with this or would it be less magnetic than the iPhone 14??
