I would accept no magsafe if this was called SE4 but c’mon :D

11Pro you are safe for one more year. MVP.

I guess beside MagSafe it’s missing:
- FaceID gen 2 (to support mask, horizontal unlock)
- battery charging limit (software locked in every not supporting phone)
- Lidar as well

I remember when the 8 came out alongside the iPhone X, when it was supposed to be the 7S. I got the 8 and held onto it until the SE 3’s release. With that higher price tag on the 16e, it looks like I’ll be sticking with my SE 3 for a longer run.

"Greatest price"

With a 6.1" OLED screen and an A18 chip, why would any have gotten a regular 16 if it was 500?

Think the issue here is that they need to think 5-6 years out for support, and they felt they needed that A18 with 8gb of RAM in there. Then, they also weren't going to make another phone with a home button, so that meant at least 6.1" screen/phone packaging. Don't know why they couldn't have kept the LCD screen as it's perfectly fine for a budget price point, but maybe switching to all OLED displays made it cheaper for production or something? But, the problem presented is once it has an A18 and OLED, and is basically the same size as their regular phone...how do they differentiate it at all? That's likely why they kept the notch, went single camera, and cut magsafe.

Just my guesses, and I too am disappointed it couldn't be 499. Although that price is probably what it will be next year.

I'm guessing this phone will be sold at $499 by retailers by year end, and maybe even by Apple itself

Even the new google pixel 9a will have MagSafe. Google leaked the specs of the new phone this morning just before the Apple release. Tim Cook has totally lost his way, the Google pixel is going to dominate this iPhone in sales. Tim really needs to step down.
I’m really interested in getting a Pixel for my next mobile phone. The technology gap between the Pixel and iPhones are widening every year and not in Apples favor.

In the end it all comes down to value for money. Somewhere down the road Apple has lost it.

I used to be a proud owner and defender of Apple. I would lie to friends, family and colleagues and have started to envy them about capabilities and price of their phones.

This is awful. It's crippled with the A18 chip. Already a year behind, because every other iPhone that is released this year will have an A19.
out of curiosity, what do you need so much power for. most of the things i do on my iphone i can do with a iphone 6. instagram, safari, read books, play a couple of games, text message.

We don't even know that

They haven't been selling any viable new small phones in years

The market can't speak with no options to buy
The pundits have been saying for years that demand for small iPhones is very low, even in the first year after the SE 3 release. I think now that Apple has ditched the small iPhone class, we can safely assume that the pundits were right about that.

SE3 is still a solid phone, but it won't be supported long. And my guess is that even as it's supported officially, things still will work janky on it due to the memory constraints. But, it does get you into the Apple system, with iMessage, and iOS apps, which is, imo, quite a bit better than any android ecosystem.

in the age of the cloud storage isn't very necessary . 128 is plenty
Yep. I have a 12 Pro Max with 128 GB storage, with 20 GB free, despite the fact my Photos Library is almost 700 GB.

Because of iCloud and iOS's automatic storage management, these days I never buy iPhones with more than the base storage.

Are you in Canada? Cuz that $899 is misleading for non-Canadian readers. It's US$599.

BTW, if I weren't passing down my old iPhone this year, this is the exact phone I'd buy for my kid. I wouldn't never buy the SE, and the kids don't want the SE either.

A used iPhone 14 Pro, or even iPhone 13 Pro is way cheaper than this one. It isn't like A18 is significantly faster than Apple A16. An iPhone 14 Pro offers better screen, better camera and overall better value than this thing.

iPhone 16E is when Apple becomes greedy and it is end of line for iPhone SE. Good luck if you want new affordable iPhone.

Yes - it's on the specs
Has "Qi wireless charging up to 7.5W" but no MagSafe
That really blows. Was thinking about getting one for my father in law. But not sure as expected a better deal. MagSafe isn’t something I am too worried about but it’s a nice to have and his new car has a MagSafe charging spot in it which I was shocked by.

And don't forget screen size. That alone is worth most of the price increase.

The SE 3 always was a bad deal IMO. It was cheap, but it sucked.

Some people, not me, like that small size though. I do prefer the normal pro over the pro max though. There is a sweet spot for a phone.
I think the screen size is a personal preference. I have purchased the SE phones outright for years now since I don't see much value in Apple's more "premium" phones. I also prefer a smaller screen on my phone. If I need a larger screen I'll just use my iPad.

Now, with the price increase and the larger screen I'm not sure what phone I'll buy next, but I am sure it will have an apple logo on it.

It’s from € 719 in the Netherlands 😳
For that same price I can get a high end Android over here with working assistants and better everything. Does Apple even wants to compete?

The in car spot probably will work with the Qi support -- but it's slow ... and the phones often move off the "Sweet spot" depending upon the phone car charging pad
