16e for Economy or El Cheapo version but it's still 600 bucks. Why would I spend 600 bucks on an Apple telephone when I can pick up a Motorola for less than 60 bucks with a year phone service included?
Do it!

Personally I dislike Android phones, and especially hate the cheap ones, but YMMV. If you're happy with Android, then it would be foolish for you not to save that $540.

600$ for a “budget” phone….

Get real
People, is anyone pushing you to buy it? Is anyone pushing you to buy new iPhone with Apple tax? I never shelled more then 200 USD for iPhone and usually less. Only never iPhone I got was subsidised refurbished iPhone 8 for 40 bucks.
If you have some needs that require more power features you still can get many second hand units in great conditions... or just step into "evil" empire :D

Wow that thing is terrible. Giving the 5c a run for it's money as worst iPhone ever.

I can only imagine that this device exists to justify a $100 price increase for the iPhone 17 lineup.

Disappointed that there is no mini version of it, I have the 13 mini and if I buy then I will get the normal 17 instead of 16e

My mom has a 12 mini and even she does not likes big phones, for her 16e could be a good replacement but it would have been better if it did not have the notch, so most probably will wait for the 17 to come out and get her the 16 for a lower price.

They will make a 17e and drop 16e. They keep price range sky high now
Hmm, interesting. I'm not sure about this. It is weird they didn't call it the SE if it's going to be the budget model for several years. But, wonder why they felt the need for a price cut option below the mainstream phone if that's the case, and wonder why they've decided to abandon the budget range altogether?

My guess is that they knew the price would be substantially more than the old SE so didn't want to keep that name. I'd guess the 16e is sold for 3-5 years like the other SE models.

But, your take is intriguing!

Omg, nearly 800 USD in Europe. Yeah, I don’t know anymore… I hope there are still refurb iPhone 14. Sounds like a better phone for a lower price if you don’t care about “AI” and can deal with the Lightning port.

I’m pretty disappointed to be honest. Been waiting for such a long time and then they ask 800 USD for their “budget” phone…. ☹️

The price & the
“Physical SIM Compatibility only for non U.S. versions” are just 2 things that peeve me off with this. Really starting to lose love for Apple nowadays

For the peasant iPhone offering it’s priced about £200 too high. I don’t know who this is for or why anyone would purposely buy a gimped product.

Then again there are people that buy the Cayman and Boxster instead of a proper Porsche, so maybe some people just want to own something from the brand even though it’s the banter offering 🤷

You are not their market then. It's the price of admission for a new iOS smartphone. If you value the ecosystem, quality hardware, software support, then you pay for it. Apple is obviously not trying to make the cheapest phone. But, hey, there are lots of old used iPhones out there that will give you 90 percent of the new experience, still be great hardware, etc...and I'd argue a better buy than your Moto.

$899 in Canada… for the budget phone. That’s disappointing.
A reasonable comparison for context would be used iPhone 15 (non-Pro) pricing at Orchard in Canada.

In that context, I'd take the 16e over the used iPhone 15 in a heartbeat.

Does this imply that base pricing is increasing for the new models that come out in September?

Looking very good for an entry model, IMO. Will be interesting to check the camera vs the dual layout of 15-16 and the new modem, but the rest checks all the boxes, including a good battery life.

For all of those saying this means the 17 will be 100 more....sure could be the case. On the optimistic side, aren't people just going to be happy with this new 16e for 200 less than the current flagship or if they do increase it 300 off the regular 17?

Pop into Switzerland, amigo, here it will be sold for CHF 629 = 667€ = $695 🖐️
