$599 is a tad disappointing, even if I expect in a year it’ll drop back down to $499 just like the iPad 10th generation dipped back down to $350 a year after launch.
No MagSafe is sad though, and only in the most boring colors?

Still, as basically the new default, especially for business customers, it’s a great phone.
Terrible name though.

I'm curious to learn more about the performance of the Apple-designed 5G modem.

If you are interested in this phone, don't buy it now. Buy it at a discount from Apple or another retailer in a few months. At least $100 cheaper. Or get it for free from a carrier with some kind of carrier deal.

Sticking with my 14 Pro Max until the fall, when I will probably go for the 17 with always on display...

The name of this new SE phone, 16E, fits with the currently available lineup of iPhones, which all have 16 in their names. But that'll change in September, and again in September 2026.

If Apple continues updating the SE model every 3 years as they have for the previous SE models, then in September 2026 the lineup will include 4 or 5 phones with "18" in the name, plus the iPhone 16E.

But maybe Apple now plans to do annual updates to the SE, even just a chip update. Then the it's naming can be in sync with that of the other iphones.
