Was really hoping Apple would give us a smaller iPhone years after the 13 Mini, really disappointing.
Yeah I was secretly hoping the new SE would use the old 12/13 mini chassis to accommodate the part of the market that like small devices. Would have thought that would be perfect seeing as there’s already plenty of choice in their lineup with 6.1 displays and the old SE’s obviously were popular with people liking smaller phones.

Oh well never mind!

How are many people happy with this model? With the following changes:

1. Camera:
No sensor-shift image stabilizer
No new generation photographic styles
No cinematic mode
No action mode

2. Internals:
4-core instead of 5-core GPU
No Ultra Wideband chip (for Find My)
No WiFi 7

3. Charging:
No MagSafe or Qi2 charging

If you compare it against an SE, it's a 34% price increase, and it's actually more expensive than a refurbished 14, where the only improvement (vs. the previously listed drawbacks) is the inclusion of USB-C and the A18.

Can't understand the role this phone is trying to play in the lineup.

I do not believe the other SE's had MagSafe, so I'm not sure why you would expect this one to?

That logic could go both ways. The previous SE's were based on bodies that didn't have MagSafe and were much smaller. This one is based on the body of the 12/13/14 (15-ish) which all have it.

It's not the end of the world, it just felt so ingrained in their devices and accessories, it's an odd thing to leave it out IMO.

It has magsafe
It has wireless charging, but not MagSafe. Which is fine IMO.

Quick comparison:

For the extra £$200 on the iPhone 16 you're getting:

- Magsafe
- Wide Angle Camera w/Macro
- Displayport video out
- Camera control
- UWB
- 35W Charging support
- Extra GPU Core
And the iPhone 16 has worse battery life. Out of that list above, the only two things that matter to me are the camera and MagSafe.

Also, while I like neither Dynamic Island or the notch, I actually prefer the notch to Dynamic Island.

The device is also equipped with an Apple-designed 5G modem is the most exciting bit.

Edit: For people laughing or disagreeing with the comment – seems like this iPhone gives 3 hours more battery life, compared to the standard 16. I assume most of that is because of the Apple's modem. And there's a potential for this to be even more noticeable for devices such as the Pro Max, where the battery is larger.

They'd have to pay ME to beta test their own mobile chip

So the only differences between 16e and 16:

- Camera button (gimmick)
- Ultra-wide camera (most people are simply not using)
- Dynamic Island

16e has better battery life, weighs less, also has Apple Intelligence, Action button. We don't know yet how the Apple modem will perform but it could be better than Qualcomm, who knows?

These phones are getting more and more similar as the days go on.

The same “MagSafe” * as my 11Pro with MagSafe case - the only change is, one better camera in place of 3, bigger screen, 5G, additional button and usb-c (the same data speed as lightning) + useless Apple Inteligence which is stupid in EU.

I guess satellite call / sms is also missing :D
This phone is a joke, 11Pro+

No thank you, had it already in shopping bag then noticed mentioned Qi1 which is basic wireless charging… and usb-2 data transfer, lol
If will replace, will do that next year for discounted 16pro or 17 (will have to adapt to distracting island :/).
Maybe will look on that but it’s very little upgrade over 11Pro… 4-5 years later, lol

*Qi1 and MagSafe have up to 7,5W charging speed (usually even less when it heat up and as it has no MagSafe then there is NO negotiation with charger = more more heat)
