I’ve got another thing for people to be mad about… Including me.
Apple says that visual intelligence is available on this new iPhone via the action button…
But it’s still not on the 15 Pro or Pro Max, which also have an action button and also have Apple Intelligence support.

R.I.P. to the iPhone home button. Though to be fair, once in a while I find it difficult to use when I am cosplaying and wearing certain costume gloves. Plus, I was already looking to upgrade to a "regular" iPhone as my next model (like the baseline iPhone 16; not the Plus or Pro models).

Looks like a nice spec update but no longer selling a lcd screen option is bad for users who are sensitive to flickering screens.

Are you certain there’s no MagSafe? It says wireless charging. I mean they invented the MagSafe standard for Qi 2??? I mean it doesn’t even say FaceID on the main page but when comparing it has it???

There is no mention of MagSafe Qi2 on the spec site. Since it has wireless charging, you'll need to use a magnetic case to replicate MagSafe.

but do you get charging? Is there a case that plugs in via USB and provides MagSafe/Qi charging? That might be palatable…

Magsafe is just the ring of magnets, plus faster Qi charging. You can get magnets with a case but you won't get faster Qi charging. Someone else on here said this phone chargest at 7.5w via Qi - which is laughably low, tbh.

The device is also equipped with an Apple-designed 5G modem is the most exciting bit.

Edit: For people laughing or disagreeing with the comment – seems like this iPhone gives 3 hours more battery life, compared to the standard 16. I assume most of that is because of the Apple's modem. And there's a potential for this to be even more noticeable for devices such as the Pro Max, where the battery is larger.
Aint no way I'd buy a phone with a 1st generation modem. 2nd gen? Maybe. But not 1st gen.

It's basically the replacement for the iPhone 14 in the lineup. It has a similar design but the upgraded processor and the same price.
So technically not the SE we expected, since price still is the same as the 14.
They still get ya with storage upgrades that cost them pennies 🤦‍♂️

iPhone 14… already existed.

Anyone who wanted one could have bought one already.

I’ve got no clue what purpose this phone serves, other than to comply with EU law.

Sure as holy hell ain’t no budget phone.

Samsung, here I come!
iPhone 14 didn't support Apple Intelligence.

I'm guessing the iPhone SE didn't sell in high enough volumes to justify the $429 price. Otherwise Apple would have kept the iPhone 14 around at $499 to have a "budget" phone.

Apparently just wanted to create a truly budget offering for carriers to toss out to people, or use as a price anchor to drive upgrades to something much better

People complaining about a price increase sound seriously entitled, lol. All these tech improvements (SoC, modem, battery, larger display, OLED, USB-C, camera, FaceID, satellite connectivity to name a few) for a measly $100 price increase? We’ve had about 30% compounded inflation in the last several years, so this is actually more like a price cut. Apple (and us shareholders) have eaten the cost of inflation for far too long! These will sell like hotcakes, and be free with carrier promotions / trade-in.
