Comparing the cost of a pickup truck with that of a sedan is not useful without context.

For me, a pickup truck is useless and a waste of gas, as I ain't haulin' a damn thing.

The iPad and a Mac are FUNDAMENTALLY different devices, with some overlap in capability, and serious barriers in others (like, for example, Pencil use).
It wasn’t a device to device comparison. Just that price of iPad Pro is in MBP range, rather than MBA. I

Sorry, but I find these complaints about price of iPad OLED pro and accessories a bit ridiculous.
I would also add that the accessories are the same price as their predecessors, for a deeper feature set. Give it time and Best Buy and Amazon will have them on sale.

When they release macOS for iPad at WWDC24 it will 😅
Yeah. When Tim was done introducing another obviously overly powerful M4 iPad Pro that does literally nothing that a M1 couldn’t do, he was like “and remember WWDC with new software features in a month!”. I interpreted that as, I want to believe, they know already that iPadOS is not OK. The iPad doesn’t have a big enough market share for developers to mantain iPad + Mac pro apps. macOS won. I hope they give us macOS on iPad, but sadly I think they will do something like “and now you can install [selected] Mac App Store apps on the iPad”. And that selection will of course be terrible.

A $300 iPad keyboard?

My goodness

Crazy town
their growth needs to come from somewhere right? They lost the ability to actually create new products, so things like this (and new colours) are really their main lever at this stage.

but dont worry, Tim is not wrong, most of the target audience will absolutely love it, and hand over the lube smiling.

As much as I hope for this I really don’t think so. It seems like a waste of resources to develop “Logic Pro for iPad 2” just to announce Mac OS being on iPad a month later. It just doesn’t seem like this convergence is going to happen even though it makes a lot of sense.

Though to be fair Mac can run iPad apps…

Try converting these prices to Canadian… that's $479 for the 13-inch keyboard.

Sorry Tim, no sale.
I almost puked when I had t purchase the $399 CAD keyboard for my iPad Pro. There is no way in HELL that I will be buying the keyboard if it costs $479.. what opioids are Apple popping and can I have some?

It’s enough for an additional row of half-height keys and a larger trackpad.
☝️ an example of an apple fan who drank the koolaid who thinks apple could create 1cm out of 1mm of space. Take a look at the pictures, they used the extra space at the upper portion of the keyboard.

First time with one of these keyboards. What do they mean by this? I didn’t think data was possible.
It simply means that it connects through the Smart Connector instead of Bluetooth. When you press a key, some data goes from the keyboard to the iPad.

Unless the Dev has opted them out

I wish Apple hadn’t allowed that
As a dev I am glad Apple did.

Just because an app of mine is compatible with iPadOS doesn’t mean I want it to be. iPad apps require tweaking the layouts to better utilize all of the blank space which in some cases means a complete redesign off current apps. That is a lot of work and so I am happy to omit certain devices because some apps just won’t be used as much as others on iPads.

Relax skippy. The hinge changes allowed more of the back part to be accessible. Thats what's being discussed.

Why compare an Air to a Pro? Compare the MacBook Air to the iPad Air.

But I am livid this doesn’t work with the new Air. WHY have two keyboards the same price for different models. Insane.
Because the new iPad Pro is significantly thinner than the iPad Air. An iPad Air wouldn’t fit in a case designed for the new iPad Pro’s thinner profile, and a thinner iPad Pro wouldn’t fit well in a oversized iPad Air case.

I love my v1 with my ipad air so much I bought a second one when I managed to break the first one (definitely my fault, the thing is actually pretty durable), it’s not cheap but it really does add a lot. The new one being lighter, with a better trackpad, function keys, and a cheaper pricetag to boot seems like a pretty good deal to me for the new ipads

And hey, no one is forcing you to buy it, if you dont want one there’s a plethora of third party cases and keyboards (though not many that use the smart connector sadly) in a variety of shapes sizes and colors around.

I’m still wary though, the keys themselves don’t have any “F1, F2, etc” labels… so might be strictly OS function keys and not any Fn keys that are useful in programming IDEs
Yes, but the MacBook function keys don’t have those labels either. So that doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t be assignable. 👍🏻
