Man Apple really hangs their part time employees (who aren't college students) out to dry. It will be tough surviving on a 20 hour per week part time income when you have to be available fulltime . That means you won't be able to get another part time job to supplement your income. Whoever described part-time as the trenches wasn't lying lol. Try surviving off $14K per year.

Yes, that would make it difficult to plan ANYTHING if you can suddenly be told you are working full time today, but not tomorrow. Interesting.

See yall on 12/3!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome and congrats! I'm glad I'm starting to see more 12/3 people.

I got my paperwork done and sent off today. Let me just say, the manager in the store was awesome!

If I get 25 hours with Apple, I'll be making more than I was with 40 hours with my previous at-home job. Plus I'll get paid vacation, paid holidays, and a night & day difference better insurance package.

Full time Apple would be great, but part time Apple > full time old job.

January start

My training got pushed back from 11/26 to a couple months from then :( I'm super bummed, but it's better than the "thanks for playing" email people have mentioned. I still have a shot! This is going to be longest wait of my life!!! lol

Congrats to everyone who will start soon!

Came back on to see if anyone was in the same situation as I. And, fizzydunlop, you are. Thanks to the inefficient courts in my county, I've also been pushed to January. It's been almost 4 weeks since HireRight started my BGC. My state rep is trying to help, but he said that this type of delay is very common here and that his efforts are usually ineffective.

Wondering what I can do to afford Christmas presents! :(

Got a call today and have my first interview next week!

Was only offered part time though, and was offered the standard pay ... nothing like $16+ some say they are receiving. (some people claim this can also change after the interviews)

But hey! I'm excited! Still a wonderful opportunity.

She mentioned that it would be a January start to me as well so it looks like everything is being pushed back.

Nice looking office. Mine is functional, if not as stylish. However I suspect you and I will both be shopping for new chairs, I understand Apple ergonomics requirement is that chairs have adjustable armrests.

I am going to staples to get an ergonomic executive chair lol and I also hear you cant have a "L" shaped desk..but I hope thats not the case and I can't wait to get my boxes!!

So did anyone else get part time mentioned in their call back only to be offered full time?

Same here. I currently work at home now also and the insurance and pay is horrible! I love the idea of working half the time and making the same amount of money. That is the biggest reason i want to change jobs and of course because it's :apple:

I wonder though after we work there for a while if we will ever get the chance to go into full time.

I asked my recruiter and she stated there are openings for full-time that pop up as well as the ability to move up in the company. She stated that they generally require you to stay in your current position for at least a year though.

Now whether that means you have to wait a full year to move to full-time or that's just for a different position I'm not sure. My guess would be that she was referring to moving up to a new position.

I agree, having half the week off is nice but so is the pay check that comes with full-time. ;)

I agree I like the option of being part time and adding X-ray hours as needed so I'm it's ok for me for now.... Did people apply for full time and get part time? I guess I'm not quite understanding why some aren't happy about the part time status?:apple:

Honestly... I can't even remember if there was an option to apply for part-time or full-time but if there was I know I would have applied for full time.

Can't speak for everyone else but the primary reason why I would prefer full-time is because I have a family and it's expensive to raise one. Part-time is better than what I have right now so I wouldn't complain. But with full-time I could pay off the rest of my debts rather quickly and set back a decent chunk of change.

Very simply:

Part-time = getting by
Full-time = living comfortably

I asked my recruiter what were the chances of going to full time and he said Apple generally wants you to stay part time for at least a year before going full time. But he also said, that can change at anytime.

Not sure what that means but I'll take anytime with Apple over no time with Apple. :)

Ah yeah ... I don't think there was an option honestly. From reading the old posts it seems like they simply offer you one or the other.

Who knows, maybe if I'm lucky enough to get the job I'll get even luckier and be offered a full time position or more than the standard pay (which could help too). Seems like at least the pay part has happened to some here.

I'll be making just about as much as I was making doing physical labor near 40 hours a week so it's not like I'm disappointed or anything. But when I was calculating how much I could potentially be making full-time I sorta did a  and started dreaming about all the things I could use with that kind of money. lol

When I got my offer call and asked about full time possibilities, my recruiter told me that the year in the same position rule wasn't set in stone. I hope that's true because I really want (and need) full time at some point. Or the winning lottery numbers. :)

Oh ofcourse!!! I guess being pt/ft has its perks... But money ofcourse being the major difference... For me right now I just need a little something something to add to the pot... Being I'm not the primary breadwinner but ... I like to shop like most woman and you can't do that on a fixed income

Two years ago when I left a major telecommunications company with 10 years of service making great money, I wanted to pursue the family thing "the stay at home more active kind of mother/wife".... Hahaha when the high was gone and reality set in , also another child to mix me staying home was no longer an option. It just wasn't comfortable any longer... I guess that was. Bit TMI (to much information).,, :D

Oh and FYI your gonna get IN dont even worry!:apple:

might want to wait on the buying anything for desk or office,,,this will make more sense after the first 2 days of training, there is things you may or not need to buy, glad i waited saved myself a BUNCH of $$$ ergo chair is a requirement but be warned the "executive chairs" are not considered ergo. So for all who have been offered a position, just wait, you have a few weeks after you start to get your office in ergo order  :D

I hate being demanding ... especially when desperation sits in (unemployed).
Guess I can just bring it up during my Skype interview next week though.

Thanks for the tip.

Same here! I was told that geographic area and if you were near a metro area had something to do with whether there were any full-time openings and I had been watching for over a year for them to post full-time in my area but it was always only part-time and the recruiter verified that was true for this area. No idea why this is so, but I really wanted to work for Apple so I applied for p/t hoping to get f/t sooner rather than later. Even p/t beats unemployment any day-- at least we get benefits! :)
