Do we pay for the benefits?
Yes but it does not cost that much... depending on the plan you choose and number of dependents.

Same here! I was told that geographic area and if you were near a metro area had something to do with whether there were any full-time openings and I had been watching for over a year for them to post full-time in my area but it was always only part-time and the recruiter verified that was true for this area. No idea why this is so, but I really wanted to work for Apple so I applied for p/t hoping to get f/t sooner rather than later. Even p/t beats unemployment any day-- at least we get benefits!
Honestly, I don't see why f/t or p/t would be based on geographic location... geography has nothing to do with call volume and that's what schedules are based on. I'm in iOS and am on EST and have taken calls from California, Egypt and Kyrgyzstan. After 6 months we can try to get into other open positions including tier 2 and potentially full time cues but your mobility is dependent on how well you do in your current spot. If you have good stats you gotta much better shot at getting regular full time or into one of the more interesting cues like OSX server. Bottom line is what Apple needs first and what you want comes second.
