Hey angry gerbil seems like you have the most insight to this job. I've got a question as far as ambient noises, how much do you have going on in background? And outside of your room that the phone can or can't pick up? Hope that makes sense.

The headset mic seems to be pretty good at screening out ambient noise as long as you're not blasting dubstep at 100+ decibels. I have NPR playing at a low level in my office during work and it's fine. I'm out in the country so there is very little noise outside my office beyond birds and my dog that is barking at said birds.

I'm really not sure how much noise you're talking about. If you're in the city and have a construction crew running a jackhammer outside your building... that may not work out so well.

It seems like everyone who applies gets the job on here.
I feel I did really bad in my 3rd interview. I was too technical.
Between being nervous and not good at roll playing. I hope the interviewer understands I am better in real situations.
Anyone else feel like I do? The interview was about 1 hour long good or bad? I hope see seen something she likes in me to get me the job.

Any opinions thought welcome
Thanks everyone for the help

Well, if you think you did so poorly during your third interview than you can go for broke, so to speak. Perhaps others may disagree, but I am inclined that at this point you may send a SHORT but succinct "Thank you" email to your third interviewer OR recruiter. Just express gratitude for the opportunity to interview. Reiterate why you believe that you are ideal for the position. Tactfully advise that you feel the comprehensive training offered is the last though most essential component to this process needed to bring you full circle to they type of individual they want in this role. End on a positively confident note - you are excitedly anticipating a favorable response in the future.

Honestly, if you're feeling as doubtful as you claim, then doing this is pretty much all you can do at this point. Keep it to no more than three SHORT paragraphs. DO NOT express any doubt.

Hope this helps.

jonks, I'm with you in that same nervous position. I had my third interview on the 23rd and still have gotten no HireRight e-mail and the manager I interviewed with ended our interview with "You should hear back from us withiin 2-3 weeks. And yeah, it really takes that long." The rest of the interview seemed to go well and the manager did praise several of my responses...but while I was very confident after my second interview, the fact that I feel like the odd one out who hasn't gotten a request for background check has my nerves all jangly. If I get it, I'll be in the Sept. 9th class.

No I'm not in the heart of the city. I have some noises like the tv down stairs or my 6 year old laughing at spongebob across the hall but they are noises that are faint when I'm locked away in my room and the person on the other end of the cell phone can't hear them either. Jus didn't know if apple headsets were like super sonic pick up every little sound condenser microphones.

If you google GN2000, that's the set they sent me. Not super duper but gets the job done. Maybe your own 6 year old isn't that loud but you'll plenty that are once you get on the phones :(

----------

Also as far as shift bids... I'm 100% a early morning person. What do most people want that you've seen?

Take a wild guess... I'd love to work 6 AM to 10 AM EST but that shift doesn't exist. There are a few people that prefer evenings but the majority want day shifts. It's not easy getting an early shift because 1. a lot of reps want them and 2. peak hours are roughly 2 PM to 8 PM EST so that's when most reps are scheduled.

The only advantage to working a late shift is that you may only get 1 or 2 calls after 10:30 PM. One of the many things I did not like about evenings is that more of the customers can be jerks whereas the majority of daytime callers are reasonable people.

2-8 isn't bad... I've gotta do full time iOS so I'm hoping the will give me a couple day shifts I hear 1 weekend day off the norm from reading around but who knows??? What I'd HATE doing is like a 3-11 shift. I am working in retail now so my specialty is dealing with rude customers all day so I'm good there. A bunch of late night shifts would probably get old quick. But I keep forgetting I am at home... So can't be as bad as late nights in retail

I'm not that familiar with full time schedules but there is in fact a pretty good chance that you'll get a 2PM to 11PM or something similar.

I've never worked in any type of retail but I'd probably opt to live in a refrigerator box outside somewhere rather than work in a bricks and mortar store.

Lol, I been doing this retail since I was 16. I'm now 26. I been looking for a way out for YEARS! I guess hours ill take what they give me until I can't take it anymore I suppose... Maybe ill get to work with a bunch of west coast ppl (3hours behind EST) who want to work late afternoons and evenings. How long did it take you to get to tier 2?

Calls are from all over the map no matter what shift you're on but there's a heavy concentration of calls from NY and quite a few from the deep south.

They put me in Tier 2 training after 6 months on the phones. I've seen people move to Tier 2 faster than that though. I probably could have made T2 at 4 1/2 or 5 months but I really do not like this job much... ergo, I do not put a lot of effort into it. I do however, have some tech savvy as well as the ability to establish rapport with customers.... that's the only reason my stats are good.

As I said in a previous post, if you like this job and are reasonably intelligent you can go pretty high pretty quickly. And the more valuable you become to Apple... the more they'll pay you. Once you've worked a few queues and are multi-skilled the paychecks go way beyond chump change.

Just finished the paperwork session. Some of the questions people asked were... out there! And found out they switched us to iOS instead of CPU, which I'm slightly bummed about.

Me too. I was a little bummed too. But seems like everyone was pretty intelligent and didn't ask so many questions. Now to finish those I9s.

Yep, paperwork session done. I decided to type up my I-9 from the email they sent us and just signed it. I filled out one by hand too just in case they don't accept the typed one but I figured that was the best way to prevent mistakes. Taking a road trip on Monday to an Apple store in LA to have my I-9 verified.

I Wonder Why You Cannot use a VoIP Service like Ooma or Vonage

I will have to go with my cable company. When i click on 'shop now', i have to type in my address. It doesn't even have my state on the list to click. :(

I guess they don't do that kind of thing in my area.

So ill just have to go through my cable company.

Ill figure it out. Hopefully they can provide me with some kind of proof though.

----------

Definitely cannot use magic jack. And yes. The documents you get will go over that.

----------

Thank you for this info. Much needed.

Does anyone have a good explanation as to why VoIP Phone service is not allowed? I think Ooma and Vonage VoIP services are more stable and Reliable than a traditional POTS line. Not to mention how much cheaper they can be.

I do understand why magic jack would not be allowed since it runs through a computer, leaving more room for something somewhere along the line to go wrong. But a Ooma/ Vonage have their own modem the directly runs the calls through my cable internet. Its all hard wired and connects into the cable companies coaxial wall hook-up just as digital service (which is Apple approved) does. Makes me wonder....

I just had my 3rd interview and for some reason I could not hear the guy on facetime, so we had to switch to skype. On top of it I am fighting a stomach bug, so I could not tell if my interview was good or not. I was just trying not to get nausea. I really hope I get hired and that because I am sick doesn't take back from me getting the job.

Having previously worked for an ISP for many years I think I can explain. The reliability of Vonage or Ooma is relative to the quality of the connection you have from your ISP and your own house wiring and connections. If and when you do have a problem with either of those services the providers are going to point the finger at each other and you're going to have a lot of difficulty getting your problem resolved which then impacts your work with Apple. Having supported cable based VOIP services in the past I wouldn't recommend them either because their reliability problems are similar. I understand pricing for a POTS line from a tranditional ILEC is more expensive but in the long run it's better for your job security.

Typed my I9 and already faxed/ mailed it in to Apple HR. They said it was good. So as long as the signature is in ink

Time off request........

Say I start in August but I have a prior work engagement on the weekend of October 26th. How hard is it to to get that time off and what is the process? Can I trade shifts with someone? Like for example since I know we have one weekend day off, can I swap so I work someones weekend day one weekend and they work mine on the 26th?
