Working in a Call center

Working in a call center, can be either an awesome job or the worst decision you ever made. Having worked in Call Centers and Help Desks for the last decade, I love the work. I love dealing with customers. There is a reason most call centers have high turnover rates. Its not for everyone. Working as a front line employee taking call from customers has two competing factions. Dealing with customers and dealing with company. For a lot of people that puts them between a rock and a hard place and they constantly stress with over improving there metrics and taking care of the customers needs.

While the job is far from being awesome for me, it's definitely not the worst decision I've ever made. That would have been the time I was drunk and ordered that sausage sandwich at a bar in Mombasa, Kenya.

I don't really understand why Apple can't have some kind of agreement between the at-home advisor recruiting and retail locations. I have spent literally all week trying to get one of the two Apple stores in 30 miles to take my phone call or make an appt and the most I've gotten, twice, was "Well, you need to talk to a supervisor, I'll pass on your info." That was after literally hours on hold over the course of several days waiting to speak to a human and then being treated with bewilderment and brushed off.

Yes, I know I could go to a bank, but the only bank I have membership through has no physical presence and I really don't want to have to pay a notary, but it looks like I'll have to. It doesn't help that my current working hours have me on a vampiric schedule. My paperwork has to be there by Wednesday and I guess I'm going to go to a notary, pay her/him, go to Kinko's, scan the documents, call HR, go to the library, print out the Fedex label and then go to work.

They give you a desk and chair but you have to pay them back for the Apple lava lamp.

I used to do drugs and I still can't understand the "desk and chair" portion of this thread. All I know is that when I started Apple told you the specs and you coughed up the furniture.

Ah Yes AG! The good ole days and drugs! LOL
There are days I truly miss them!

Apple gives you specs and you follow them. As much as they have all these rules and regulations.. not much is in stone. Relax and just do your best.. if it is wrong they will let you know and you correct it.

I'd probably miss them too... If I could remember them. The 70's were a bit hazy but I do recall a couple of Pink Floyd concerts and a Peter Frampton album.

You still do have to provide your own chair and desk. They give you specs on your first day on what you should purchase. You will need to provide pictures.

From Apple's AHA job page FAQ's: http://www.apple.com/jobs/us/advisor_pro_faq.html

What are the home office requirements?
At home, you must have a quiet, distraction-free room with a door that can close to keep out ambient noise. You must have or be willing to get a desk, an ergonomic adjustable chair, a dedicated telephone line, and an Internet connection meeting minimum requirements.

Your making that up.

Depends on where you guys are in that wave of hires. Some people heard back within minutes. I applied at the end of one FT hiring wave and didn't hear back for about a month.

He's clearly messing with you guys. It states in the job requirements that you must have an ergonomic desk and chair.

People starting, do not buy your desk and chair ahead of time. There's a class on what you can and can't use. There's specific measurements that have to be met and certain features are required. You'll have about a month after you start to get it together. We have people in my class that tried buying stuff ahead and now they're stuck with a desk they can't use and have to buy another one.

Dang. You got me.

If we aren't supposed to purchase a desk until after we are told what to buy...where are we supposed to place the equipment?
On the floor?
Better yet, suspended in the air via fishing line... :D

Phone line

Hello I am in the Sep 16 class and I had a brief question about the phone line. I am going to be using Comcast. Could I get just a regular phone line? or the does it have to be a business line?

Well

Why doesn't one of the current AHA's just state the official home office desk and chair specifications so we can all have an idea as to what is required. :)
