Is it bad that I would have preffered iOS? Does CPU support pay more or something?

No it doesn't but it's more tech support whereas iOS is more customer service. I guess one benefit of the iOS team is that even if you're part time, chances are you'll be working 40 hours through Xmas at least. The CPU group doesn't have the call volume that iOS does.

just smile and keep looking interested

they dont care about your technical skills

pretend like you're getting hired as a wal mart greeter

Thanks for the response! I do have 20+ yrs tech support / networking experience in both PC and Mac as well as lots of customer support experience so I'm hoping not to fall into the 'overqualified' category because I really do want to work for Apple! The first two interviews have gone well but have been geared more to the (general) technical side and my recruiter (Brian) said the 3rd would be even more so as well as customer support focused. Like most of you, just want to make the best impression possible! :)

I asked the manager that interviewed me regarding overtime and he said they have PLENTY of overtime available in the CPU dept. Just a heads up.

I was told that the CPU support team has around 20-30 calls a day.

I'll have to check the page that has all the support cues listed. I don't know about CPU but the iPhone (iOS) cue is probably 10 X that number. There are a heck of a lot more iPhones, iPods and iPads than there are Macs and Mac users tend to be more tech savvy than the average iPhone user.

CPU is the support group for all of the desktops and laptops. AppleCare is the general term for ALL support groups, CPU, iOS, iTunes, OSX Server etc. I'd really be surprised if a new hire got on the CPU support team because a lot of current employees want to work that cue... primarily because it's more tech and less customer service. Most of the new people go in the iOS (mostly iPhone) support group.

I just got my email from AHA CPU support manager welcoming me to the team.

can you guys stop calling it cpu?

IT people should know better than this

----------

Is it bad that I would have preffered iOS? Does CPU support pay more or something?

nope

there's a disadvantage and advantages of this ..

if you want full advantages of having apple on your resume , OSX support is the way to go.. you'd be troubleshooting actual computers

IOS should have WAY easier calls .. i don't think it's fair that both groups get payed the same amount of money

----------

So what do the CPU guys do all day?

try showing grandma over the phone how to do several things on the computer.. some of these calls can take forever to complete..you can sit there and ask people to do certain things and they wont do it because either they're being too lazy or can't find what you're trying to point out to them. so in their hopes they think they're making the situation better by "skipping" a step you've prompted them to do

i keed you not , today i spent 20min. trying to get some idiot to RESET HIS PASSWORD! for a website...

if you don't have good PC knowledge or never done troubleshooting over the phone OSX will be a challenge

The manager that interviewed me was cpu and he said his team is working 6 hours a week overtime right now.

I was also told that you could get ios overflow calls, so I'm sure we will have some ios training.

Just calling it CPU because that's the term the hiring manager used.

How do you check everything? Just email or call hireright?

I called hireright yesterday to check the status.

They told which two they haven't heard back from yet,
and I called them.

My former manager called me yesterday and told me that I just got off the phone with them and my current manager talked to them today.

I think the official group OSX Support.

Hi there!

Does anyone know of someone going through the all the interviews and background check was clear but wasn't chosen at the end? I'm just waiting on my current county to respond which I know will be fine but curious if someone made it this far and not chosen. Trying not to get my hopes up too high! :)
