"Gay" is a cult. All humans are attracted to each other. I like men and women - but I do not define myself by that characteristic - which I believe is so common as to be ubiquitous amongst human beings.

Go ahead and label yourself, but don't try to force your labels on me.

Excuse me, but what religious people are making Tim Cooks life miserable?

The reality is that the homosexual movement does not want equality. They ALREADY have that in the US. Discrimination is illegal. The true agenda is that they want everyone to tell them "its ok" and affirm it.

I am not taking a side here either way but if someone has an opinion, religious or not, they are entitled to it. They are not required to tell someone else that what they are doing is ok.

Sadly, you are wrong. Sexual orientation is not yet a protected category (unlike race, etc.) so it is not illegal to discriminate for it.

And the fact that so many people believe there is a "true agenda" is evidence that discrimination is alive and well.

I certainly support him as CEO of Apple. But certainly don't support his homosexuality.

I don't think he's asking for support. He's just saying he's gay. I don't think he cares much what people think.

I never understood why people are so threatened by other people's business... But I guess it's that same as Apple fanboys threatened by Android (and vice-versa).

This must have been a definite "easter egg" placed by Jonny to grab Tim's attention ;)

Oh my! Jonny and Tim are American's new Power Couple. mind blown!

Normal is where how majority behave. Sex is betweenness and women. Marriage is betweenan and woman. If we cold tolerate homosexual, are we gonna tolerate sex between human and animal? How about human and objects?

Based on this faulty, flawed logic that has no basis or bearing in real life.

You're abnormal for using an iPhone, cause clearly, internationally iPhone users are the minority to Android the master race and you shouldn't exist!:p

The roots of marriage are not actually religious in nature and existed prior to the Churches definition of it.

There has been homosexuality occurring throughout all of mankinds history, even in some of the biggest most succesfull empires. Often, in perfect legality and acceptance. Did you know, that in Ancient Sparta, young boys were expected to form homosexual bonds with their peers. It was believed that soldiers who felt love for their comrades would fight harder to protect not only themselves, but someone else they loved dearly who fought with them. The Spartan army has been considered one of the strongest military mights of Ancient societies.

There is no link between allowing TWO CONSENTING ADULTS to be together, and allowing a human and animal to be together. This isn't even a fallacy of slippery slope. There's no link. None at all. its nothing more than an attempt to demonize homosexuality by linking it to Bestiality. There is none. Just because Homosexually is allowed doesn't suddenly make Bestiality. Bringing up this argument is bigotry at it's finest.

And HUmans and objects? Where are you? Humans have been having sexual relations with objects since the dark ages. Probably earlier. Dildos, Sex Toys, fleshlights. These are not new things. Women and men have been shoving inanimate objects up themselves for centuries, often to great pleasure. This does not suddenly mean that people are going to start marrying their sex toys and society will crumble.

You sir, have done nothing but spout pure bigotry. Open your mind and realize that the sexual orientation of another has zero impact on your life. Changes nothing about your life. Will do nothing to affect your life, and therefore, you should have nothing against it. you, and others with these beliefs are exactly the reason why Tim Cook feels the need to speak up and come out. there is still rampant bigotry in this world

So did you make a conscious 'choice' to be heterosexual? For me puberty kicked in and I went from hating girls, to being totally obsessed with them, pretty much over night.

It was clearly a biological effect.

This is why scientists can change the sexual preferences of mice by deleting certain genes.

Tim Cook had no choice in the matter. Why would he 'choose' to have his life made miserable by clueless religious people anyway?

Everyone knows it's politically correct to say it was biological. How do you know it was biological? Are you saying that a person has no choice in any kind of behavior regardless of natural desires and tendencies? The fact is that it could have been biological or it could have been by choice. Either way his behavior is what it is at this point and most people don't care about his sexual behavior as long as he does his job well at Apple.

That's a direct insult to God! Implying that God made a mistake I don't think so. He has a choice and so does everyone else. If you ever read the bible you would know God created us with the specific power of choice.

Tim has been a great CEO so far, and the company has made much progress, and still been very innovative under his lead. They have introduced a host of new and exciting products and technologies, and the company is making more money now than ever, with the future looking very good. Tim's life at work as an effective and vibrant CEO is just that, and his personal life is just that. He was clear about his desire and right to privacy and does not want his personal life and his sexuality to negatively impact the business, which it shouldn't, but he felt his responsibility to the public to come out publicly at this point. It's a different day and age than 15 or 20 years ago. We all like Tim, and I think we should be supportive of this. :apple:

Where on earth do you get that gay people have equal rights?

We can't marry the people we love, straight people can. That's not equal.

We can get fired for being gay in many states, straight people can't. That's not equal.

It seems to me you have it in your head that gay people choose to be gay, we don't. If it was a choice I for one would be straight in a heartbeat so I could have the life I wanted but that wasn't the hand I was dealt.

If gay was a choice you wouldn't see people committing suicide over it.

So just to be clear, you would **** men and women but you don't consider yourself bisexual? Okay.

To MisakixMikasa and other who insist on comparing gay marriage to marrying animals or children, or cal it "the slippery slope", well..

We have reasons why we pass certain laws. We don't pass laws "just because". For example, you can't marry children because children do not have the mental development to understand what they are doing or to make decisions like this. You can't marry animals because animals are a lower life form and it would be considered cruelty. And you can't marry your sister or brother or daughter or son due to the serious genetic problems it would cause. You can't marry more than one person because the potential for fraud, monetary or otherwise, is present. All those represent serious harm to the public and individuals if we allowed them. In other words, we have reasons for laws about those things.

Being gay, on the other hand, is legal. There is no harm to the gay people or to the public. In other words, "because it upsets some of you" is not a good enough reason to have a law banning something, say gay marriage. Therefore, they should be able to do all the legal things the rest of us can do and they shouldn't be allowed to do the things in the above list we also aren't allowed to do. Very simple.

Wow there's a lot of nasty comments in this thread.

Not a single one of you (unless you're gay) know how hard it is to come out, especially if you grew up in an insanely bigoted part of the country. Coming out can be greeted with acceptance, but often its met with crying, anger, rejection and sadly even violence.

It's sad that coming out even has to happen.

You're confusing his coming out with announcing in a public statement that he's gay. I'm sure he came out years ago. So his family, friends and everyone knows he's gay. That's quite different than making a public statement to the world.

I'm gay and I do not understand the need for this publicity. But this is the media's idea and no doubt there is a benefit for them. He didn't have a choice. Either he comes out publicly in a statement like this, or they start publishing off color stories about him. Media is good for blackmail. That's what this is about. $$$

They ALREADY have that in the US. Discrimination is illegal.

Drinking alcohol before you're 21 is illegal too in your country. Using drugs is still illegal in most of your states. Yet, a lot of people, if not the majority, do that. Something being illegal only matters if you get caught. Besides, the law doesn't change reality...
Making discrimination illegal only means that the people who wish to discriminate are more careful about not being caught...

Whilst I'm happy for him to come out publicly,

I do have to smile about the super supportive comments in this thread.

Why you ask? I will tell you....

If Tim cook was a super male macho guy, true blue USA male, enjoyed shooting at the sports range, and had a well toned body, THEN the boss of Samsung came out as being gay.

I could just imagine the type of sarcastic remarks we'd be seeing here, and how people love the true male Tim Cook strong leader of Apple.
