I'm having a hard time reconciling that quote from Tim Cook and his feeling that he needed to make his sexuality public. His sexuality has nothing to do with being CEO of Apple. And if we're not defined by our gender why does he feel the need to tell the world he's gay? Especially if he really values his privacy? We're long past the point where coming out really mattered. Everybody knew he was gay and nobody cared. I see this as more of a distraction than anything else.

Props to him, this sets yet-another great example for the young ones and corporate types everywhere.

Now, can we please get a Mac mini that doesn't suck?

The xMac/Mac Maxi ain't coming, son. Time to give up the dream. My dream was a "cheese-grater" Mac Pro with a Thunderbolt supporting mother board. That didn't happen either - we got the trash can with no internal storage space instead. They'll pry away my "cheese-grater" with 27TB of internal space out of my cold, dead fingers!

Steve jobs describes the first time he met a gay man, in new bio

One weekend Jobs was visiting Wayne at his apartment, engaging as they often did in philosophical discussions, when Wayne said that there was something he needed to tell him. "Yeah, I think I know what it is," Jobs replied. "I think you like men." Wayne said yes. "It was my first encounter with someone who I knew was gay," Jobs recalled. "He planted the right perspective of it for me." Jobs grilled him: "When you see a beautiful woman, what do you feel?" Wayne replied, "It's like when you look at a beautiful horse. You can appreciate it, but you don't want to sleep with it. You appreciate beauty for what it is." Wayne said that it is a testament to Jobs that he felt like revealing this to him. "Nobody at Atari knew, and I could count on my toes and fingers the number of people I told in my whole life. But I guess it just felt right to tell him, that he would understand, and it didn't have any effect on our relationship."

Walter Isaacson's biography of Steve Jobs.

I really wonder what he would have told Tim when he was alive :roll eyes:

P.S: I have nothing against gays, just my two cents.

... even though I really don't factor in the sexual preferences of the CEO of any company when I consider their products or services.

It might unfortunately cost Apple a few sales. That's the sad reality even in the 21st century. Probably not many in the Western World but a few more in other regions, for example with key accounts sold to public entities. Let's not forget some countries still put LGBT people in prison or worse when openly living or displaying their sexual preferences or lifestyle. Cook visited or met such heads of state in the Middle East etc. on his past trips.

Cook and his PR team probably factored that in as well, that may have influenced that it took him so long.

But judging by his actions and speeches I think it wasn't a big surprise for anyone. I also remember a gay magazine (?) outing him some time ago...

http://www.out.com/out-exclusives/power-50/2013/04/10/power-list-2013?page=full

and then CNBC outed him again a few months ago...

So not a big surprise to many following Apple closely.

Being a gay is normal? So is sex with animal is normal as well? There is certain degree to it. Homosexual is not normal, it goes beyond nature.

Why are you so concerned with what two consenting adults do in their own bedroom? If you don't like gay sex, don't have gay sex.

Good on him, we need more people in power to publicly come out

why? i don't see the need for anyone to have to publicly announce their sexuality. You don't see people come out publicly and announce they are heterosexual.

I did post this already and their's no need to attack him, he's not trying to force his sexuality upon others, be more concerned about running Apple.

Are you hallucinating? I am not seeing anyone attacking him! You post was one of the first on this forum, BS posts came after that!

Wow, just wow.

You're really in the minority. Most people in western society do not care is someone is straight, gay, trans-gender, black, white, oriental....

I'm sure many women feel the same towards you as a person. "Eww MisakixMikasa. He's disgusting, he is not normal. Can you imaging playing his balls?".

He is probably closeted. When you are so "disgusted" by it, you are trying to prove to yourself that you are not that way. Let him talk crap, I'm gay and probably more masculine and put together than he will ever be...

I like short, busty, zaftig redheads and I don't care who knows it!

Onto Tim: good for him!
Like many have said here:
* everyone already knew
* should keep private life private
* why is this a "thing" in 2015?!?

But perhaps there're some gay people who, for some reason, feel ashamed, etc.
and maybe, just maybe, Tim's "coming out" will instill in them a sort of confidence & inspiration.

Plus, I bet he gets a Standing O at the next Apple event because of this.

I'm all for equality as long as they don't sacrifice knowledge.
Edit: I wanted to add that the definition of normal makes anything but heterosexuality not normal. But I don't give a **** that Tims hetero, gay or asexual and so should non of us. It doesn't matter.

Great man. Respect.
You cannot be but proud of Apple on its long stand on equality.

Exactly!!!

Good on Tim for coming out.

Makes no difference what his preference is.

I've thought about it, I just don't care... My relationship with the church is on a tether anyway. There are many special things about being Greek Orthodox, a lot of them are cultural, I hold them very dearly, but I am far from a model christian.

Be that as it may we're all sinners in one way or another, so party on garth, right?

With a Greek Orthodox background, your background probably meant you never considered the issues and ideas of the Reformation. i.e. you're a product of your religious background, prior assumptions accepted.
