For the people who seem to be disturbed about what being gay is, should do a self evaluation to find out why they feel that way. Curiosity?
Whatever gives you passion (negative or positive) is due to you feeling that way about yourself.
A man/woman who is confident in their sexuality, would never go out of their way to judge someone based on theirs. For example: you could like bondage but that is what you do in your privacy, it's none of my business. Why should I go out of my way to make you feel inferior or superior to me? I don't understand how someone could be turned on by it, but I respect it because ITS NOT MY LIFE. I don't pay your bills and you don't pay mine, so why should I care?
If everyone had that mentality, we would live in a much better world.

Can't wait for when this type of thing isn't news. Who cares what someone else's sexual preference is. The sooner we can stop talking about others sexual preferences and the color of skin, the better we'll be.

Gay agenda? You mean having the same rights as everyone else? And the right to not be fired because of you who love? Yeah, what a scary agenda that is!

It must be so difficult seeing the world evolve with respect to gay rights while being stuck in the 1950s. I imagine it's similar to how my racist grandfather felt during the civil rights era.

Yes there is an agenda to promote homosexuality. I don't agree with homosexuality but I am not homophobic nor do I treat gay people any differently to anyone else. It's my personal view, but I treat all humans with the same level of respect.

There is a time and place to do what Cook is doing, and to use Apple to do so is wrong.
Cook is entitled to do what he wants and fight for what he wants, but just don't use Apple to do it.

Doesn't come as a shocker at all, and I honestly don't care about his personal life. However, I really wonder how the public, especially in Asia, Russia, and the Middle East will react. These are big markets of consumers.

In case you're wondering, when you say "It's none of my business", you're actually dismissing Tim's decision to come out publicly. While it was HIS decision to make, it was a big decision and I'm sure a tough one. What we need more of is people noticing. You don't have to be happy for him. But dismissing him is actually harming equality and LGBTQ folks by deciding that you don't care about who they are. I would honestly rather you speak out against it than dismiss it. At least that way we could have a conversation

And who made it news? Cook did. He should have just shut up and continue to run apple while living his life.

//My BOLD
I disagree with the sentiment that it's "sad". I think it's great! The more people see and understand that LGBTQ folks exist, are successful, aren't threatening others way of life, and are happy being who they are...the sooner they (we) will experience inherent equality.

I used to think it doesn't matter that I was Bi and it's no one's business but my own. But after a while I realized I was being selfish. I was only concerned at protecting myself from other people's thoughts about it rather than helping change people's thoughts.

Remember all, in many states it is perfectly legal to fire me because of the simple fact that I am attracted to women AND to men.
I use to think I was Bi myself like you and I agree that it my own business. What I mean by that it's sad is that people should just be able to embrace any sexuality without hate. Some of these posts on this forum really sicken me about Tim being gay.
My best friend is gay - do I think of him diffently? Nope he still human and I support him all the way! But what gets me is why is it so big when people are gay it becomes front page new stories - people should not need to come out with such publicity around them!

Why is this even news? Who cares in this day and age. Oh, that's right, the self-absorbed religious goons do. "We love everybody, except if you're gay."

Please, put a sock in it and continue to chase after the Easter bunny.

That's like saying you don't support his skin colour.

It's more like they don't support Tim's undergarments colour. You are never going to see it. It doesn't effort you in the slightest.

It only effects you if you are female and you were hoping to be Tim's wife.

Promote homosexuality? Jesus ****ing Christ, where do people come up with this nonsense?

No one is trying to turn people gay. You can't turn someone gay because it's not a choice. All people are trying to promote is treating everyone equally. What's so terrible about that?

I'm a little surprised so many people weren't aware of this already, and it's a shame that some people in parts of the world (and even on here) will condemn him for this. It says a lot that MR had to impose a restriction on comments here, and that's rather sad.

I'm happy that we can say that we have not only an African-American president, but a gay man who controls arguably the biggest company in America. All people deserve and have places in society and I'm glad that it seems like a lot of bigotry in professional fields have seemed to subside.

I commend Tim Cook for this announcement. It must have been incredibly tough in some ways. But I also question the rationale. Yes, I know what he said in his essay. But if Apple is his life's work, this seems just like a sideshow and one that distracts from the main event unnecessarily. That's not to say that he doesn't have every right to come out, because he certainly does. I just question how wise of a move this is for Apple's sake. In the US, we have become fairly accepting as a whole of homosexuality. But a lot of nations still arent. Why mess with your life's work if you admit to not being an activist in the first place?

I respect him even more now.
sexuality is a personal aspect of humans life and no one should even dare to coment and judge others orientation.

That's always the most idiotic thing people claim. The only ones who could imagine being turned gay are those who actually _are_ gay and refuse to admit it to themselves.

He should not be CEO of Apple. Can you imaging a gay president? That is crazy!!!!!

Are you worried about Liza Minelli being downloaded to your iTunes next time instead of U2?

Honestly I have no idea how someone's sexuality could have a bearing on their ability to be CEO of Apple. My stock's up 157% since I bought it - I'm totally good with Tim being CEO.

As long as there are people who feel like they have to say how disgusting one type of sexuality or other is, I hope more and more people in positions of power come out. There is nothing abnormal about being atypical.

...or if you are male and hoping to be his husband :D

So then please tell me what being gay has to do with technology and computing?
Why is the CEO of apple obliged to talk about sexuality?

If you cannot see there is an agenda then you are just plain ignorant. You don't have to be 'homophobic' to identify this clear agenda.

Ok so he's gay, and? I don't see the need for anyone to come out as gay, it shouldn't matter, I didn't have to come out as straight.

You didn't have to come out because assuming that you're straight is the default...

Now, imagine the reverse. Imagine that being gay was the norm. That your parents kept asking your when you will get married to a nice man. That your colleagues kept asking if you had a good week-end with your husband. Imagine that when you go have a drink with colleagues, you would have to ear jokes and remarks about how straight men are disgusting. Imagine that you would have to hide the fact that you have a wife for fear of being banned from promotion at work. Imagine that when in public you would not dare take your wife hand for fear of being beaten or killed by extremists?
Just a couple of months ago we had a gay couple severely beaten by extremists, the guy spent weeks in hospital, lost of a bunch of teeth, had broken skull and jaw and will suffer for his whole life. His crime was to have held the hand of his boyfriend in downtown Paris and to cross the path of extremists...

Now, you really would not feel the need to come out?

Just going to paste what I posted in the other, locked thread:

It's important because there are so many gay kids out there who live in West Bum****, Alabama and are told by their parents and everyone else they know that they're sinners, they'll never amount to anything, and they'll burn in hell for being gay. And then after finding absolutely no support amongst the people who should love them, they kill themselves.

Now they can see Tim Cook, who is gay, grew up in West Bum****, Alabama, and went on to become the CEO of one of the largest companies in the world and perhaps the most powerful person in the industry. It might give some hope to these kids out there who thought there was nothing for them in life.
