Im upgrading from a 7 Plus but it only cost $100 for the tax etc on the iphone upgrade program.
The gold is beautiful but I’m almost liking the look of the silver more! Stunning! (I say that as though it matters at all to me, considering my phone’s in a case literally 99.9999999% of the time (it’s naked when I change cases and that’s about it. Lol.)
yeah all that matters is the front bezel color really, if you are using a case

It varies from carrier to carrier, I’d guess, but Apple makes it super-easy. You can do it either on the phone or through iTunes and will be walked through, step by step.
And if it fails the first time, give it a few and try again. The servers are way more robust than they used to be. I remember when I tried to activate my 5 (I think) and it failed for a couple of hours straight before going through.
I'm thinking exactly the same thing! As I'm waiting for the UPS guy to deliver my sparkly new gold 8+, I find myself admiring the silver one. I've wanted the gold one from day one so I'm really surprised that the silver is catching my eye. That white and silver combo is fantastic! However, since mine is going to live in a case, exactly like you described, it's probably not worth the effort to swap colors. Plus, I'm sure that I'll love the gold too.
It really is pretty. The bands around the edge are kind of a pale coppery color (close to rose gold, but a little more gold than pink) and the back is a creamy champagne. The only way I’d be tempted to swap is if they suddenly announced a Product Red version. I was really sad that they didn’t offer it for the 8. It was absolutely stunning on the 7.
I also have a 5S and waiting to make the same upgrade. Please setup a thread to compare the two - for those coming from the 5S to 8+.

The silver with this case will be stunning. In this case you can show it off and see the nice white back. Good protection but slim. My daughter has a regular 6 and wants an X for Christmas. At least I got the Pre-Order "practice" with my 8 Plus (Yep, I got up at 1:45 AM, haha!) If I am "lucky", it will ship mid December so I won't have to give it to her early.
UPS doesn't hit my house until about 3 or 4, and I'm not clocked out until 5 anyway. You guys are killing me with these gorgeous phones!!

I will! I went with the Plus since my iPad mini is just about unusable in Safari and my husband wants to use his iPad Air sometimes. Unfortunately, UPS has often come as late as 8PM, so I could be in for a long wait. I downloaded iOS 11 on my 5s this morning to prepare and have my Belkin Boost Up (received Wednesday) ready to charge. That charger works great with my husband's Galaxy S6. Charges right through the Otterbox!
