Saying they are hands down the worst is a bit hyperbolic. You ever worked for them? You know the strain these release events put on them? Maybe you have a bad driver. I deal with UPS on a daily basis for both commercial and residential and will take them over any other carrier everyday of the week.
I agree. I went to pick my iPhone 8+ and AppleTV 4K up at the local UPS hub and was told that "it's here, but we can't find it... there was a power outage overnight and all of the scans are screwed up"... I really got the feeling that the poor young lady waiting on me was as upset and frustrated as I was... getting upset did no good, and it wasn't anyone's fault, but frustrating none-the-less... I left, went and got some breakfast and when I returned to the UPS site, the same young lady had my stuff pulled out under her counter and had me out of there with my packages in about 5 minutes.
Every company has jerks working for them, and every company has way more good, caring employees that the bad apples... but hands down, I much prefer UPS... and I love a happy ending!

What is the activation process? I’m on TMobile and just switching to this new phone.
The activation on AT&T went right through... there's a new automatic process for transferring data from an old phone to a new one... uses that "plasma" code like the Apple Watch pairing...
