Like a few of you I thought I'd get the X, ultimately decided on the 8 Plus (I'm coming from a 6 Plus so should be quite an upgrade). Ordered an unlocked 256GB SG Plus just after they opened up pre-orders. No issues whatsoever and should be here next Friday!

I pre-ordered through Apple for a Verizon 256gb Iphone 8. I checked my CC and they are charging full amount for the phone?! even though I signed up for installments. Is this normal?

I'm on AT&T and they charged my down payment and the processing fee. Not the full price of the phone.

Same here. I was prepared to get the X before the presentation. But I’m not convinced that FaceID, as it’s implemented now, is a better solution than TouchID. Add to that the unintuitive gestures, no Reachability, the notch, and the ability to get most of the same specs for $200 less made the X a no-go for me. Maybe next year.

I have no doubts that Face ID will be perfect from the first rev. But I will agree with you I'm frustrated about the notch at the top. After watching the keynote I understand why they had to leave that - all of the various things they're packing in there + Face ID scanner. But it just looks a little silly. It's my only downside about the X. And you watch. It'll be first thing to go on the X2.

What do they do instead? Small top bar like the Note 8 to house all the sensors and camera?

Let's remember folks / this is the Apple.com/Apple App pre-order thread. There are TMobile, AT&T and Verizon - unique preOrder threads. Please use them accordingly.

The title of the thread is "apple.com" ordering...not carrier specific and not IUP specific. It's for those ordering through Apple.com/App.

I was *answering* this question.

That would have been my preference.

So we get, what, a 5.7 in screen as opposed to a 5.8 screen. I can live with that. That’s better IMO, than a screen that looks like something is forever obscuring some of your content.

Exactly. It just looks dumb. When I saw the first rumor sites of what it would look like I remember grimacing and thinking "are you kidding me?".

I do agree that FaceTime itself will be perfect, I’m just not sure if using it will be more convenient than TouchID. Unlocking your phone technically takes two actions...look at the phone, then swipe up. Currently, and (on the 8/+) all I do is press the solid-state home button. Just one fluid action.

Also, this could have been my perception, but it doesn’t seem instantaneous. When Federighi did it on stage (and in several hands-on videos I’ve seen) it looked like their was a ever-so-slight delay, so really, you have to 1. Look at phone 2. Wait for unlock 3. Swipe up.

I could be wrong. I hope I am because it’s a great concept. I just want to see how it works IRL.

Ordered a sim-free, unlocked 64gb gold 8+ from the app! Smooth sailing and delivery on Sept. 22nd! When I pre-ordered the iPhone 5, I got it the day before release. Makes me wonder if any of them will squeak by this year.

ordered sim-free 64gb 8... pickup at apple store on the 22nd since the delivery dates slipped after an hour into preorders...

I just watched again.. I saw no delay of any kind. I will admit to being a fan of Touch ID.. but in actuality we are always looking at our phones when we open them so "look" and "swipe up" are simultaneous actions - just like Touch ID. Touch ID also had a slight pause while it read your fingerprint compared to when TouchID is turned off. Of course we won't know for sure until we have one in our own hands. But Apple designed it as a "simultaneous" action. And it seemed to work that way when Federeghi demoed it.

I want to pre-order the 8 plus in space gray (64 gb) but I also want to trade in two phones to put toward the iPhone 8 purchase. But I can't trade in one of the phones now because I'm still using it... I'm nervous to just wait until the 8 is available in stores because I don't want them to sell out. Has anyone ever pre-ordered a phone and then returned it and repurchased it to use trade-in credit?

They'll change to a mini bezel at top. Easy peazey. This is what Samsung does.
They could've done that this time and didn't for a reason. They wanted to be able to call it edge to edge. No chance in hell they reverse that decision.
