So it really depends, one thing I've noticed is that Apple DID NOT ask for "signature required". I had a laptop delivered a few week ago, the sender specifically asked for "Signature", when the UPS made the delivery attempt he rang the door bell, but we didn't answer right away thinking it was going to be dropped off anyways. By the time we got to the door he left a note saying sorry we missed you. I later looked up the rule for UPS, while they are not requiring you to sign, they have see you and ask for the receiver's last name. With the iPhone today it was almost the same, the UPS rang the door bell, I answer in about five seconds, by the time I open the door he was already half way back to his truck (he dropped off the phone though), as soon as he saw me, he yelled "last name?", and I told him what it was before him taking off.
right - i noticed on the tracking pages that "signature required" was not to be found anywhere. at first i figured that meant that they would just leave the packages, but i came here and upthread people were saying that they weren't going to require signatures but still try to verify that the last name was the same, which is something they can do from afar. that made sense to me given the dollar amounts in play here.
maybe this is just totally unofficial on UPSs part so the average driver (who probably has 10 million iphones to deliver today) is just dropping stuff off and running. they probably get in more trouble for missing delivery windows than they would for someone later claiming a loss.
anyway who knows what is going to happen with my package that they didn't deliver. hopefully it will show up tomorrow.
