I had same problem as you with billing address was invalid. I got on computer and check out my pre-order with in-store pickup on 05/23.

I was thinking about the 12 pro blue, but after seeing latest Verizon commercial I decided to go with Silver
iPhone 12 pro black 128, delivery date 28 Oct - 2 Nov. In north Italy.
This year , Apple doing bad jobs on preorder timing ....
Got stuck on main page , and can be in the order page at 7:20 CT , AND EVERYTHING MOVE TO NOV INSTEAD OF OCT 23 ....
Lucky , switch to pick up at my nearest Apple Store ( they has been closed for a while, and open for pick up only ) on Oct 23 , window checkin 9AM

For those that have done the iPhone Upgrade program in the past. Will I need to surrender my current device at time of pickup or do they allow me to mail it in/drop it off later?
this was NO seamless! was very stressful. Had two different computers going... got to the order part was fine but apple sites started having glitches? kept kicking me out, then when I placed in bag and ready to go it kicked it out! Ugh, had to do this like 5 times, then it put it through twice! Coming the 23rd so guess that's good! wasnt sure about silver versus gray but choose gray in the end, unlocked.
Wouldn’t call it seemless, had to keep refreshing for the bag to load and took me about 5 min before i could even get to that point. Still got it in for launch day but their systems were definitely overloaded for a bit.
Just ordered a 64GB blue iPhone 12 for my mom, and a 128GB blue iPhone 12 for myself. Will be here October 23.

dMine was same. According to instructions you just need to do the trade in deal through ATT and turn her in
if you read the fine print, you will be required to change your existing plan Within 14 days or you will have to pay the phone in full. This is bad for people like me who have Grandfathered plans from 2014, they can’t throttle me or lower my definition to 480p and it’s cheaper then today’s unlimited plans.

Did the iPhone payments program (not iPhone Upgrade Program) through the App Store. Had it all picked out Wednesday after the event. Opened up my app at 6:02 MST and it was right there ready for me. Two taps and it was done. Here next Friday on launch day. 256 graphite on Verizon.
However, trying to get back in to get the new 20W charger and MagSafe wireless charger proved to be a pain. It kept telling me invalid shipping address. 10 minutes later I gave up and did it on my iPad Pro and it went through quickly. Not sure why.

This is my 1st time using the Apple upgrade program to get a phone. I enrolled when I got the iPhone 11 and not I just got the iPhone 12 Pro. So do I get a box to ship my iPhone 11, or do I go to the Apple store to return it?
You where 20 minutes late how is that Apple doing a bad job? Everyone knew these would go fast
From what I remember you will need to turn in the current device when you pick up your new phone.
Could have just been the most popular model by far stripping supply... not quite sure
