Upgrading from X to XS+

I always thought the app was the fastest way to pre-order but I was so wrong last November for the iPhone X launch.
I continually force quit and restarted the app but I could not get in until more than 20 mins past launch time.
However, my partner opened the app only at 3 min past launch time and ordered within 5 mins.

Are we expecting shortages again this year? I was planning on dropping by the Apple Store to trade in an older iPhone and pick up an XS. Probably the gold one. Storage to be determined when prices are announced, but I’m inclined toward 256GB, if it’s offered. I don’t know if I want to be mashing buttons at 3:00 am for a phone I only recently decided might be a good idea.

Coming from the Plus series, I felt like the X was lacking screen width. I miss the landscape mode, and not constantly having to break my neck sideways in the car to get it to unlocked. I will be pre-ordering the XS Plus, haven’t decided on the Gold or space gray version though.

Getting geared up here for an Xs. I'm coming from an iPhone 8 and just thought that the Xs plus would be slightly oversized for me.

I’ve always ordered on the AT&T app (different thread, I know), but my question is, there is no way to “sign in” to the Apple.com site, correct? I just tested ordering on the desktop site vs. the app and on the desktop site, I have to enter in all my info as where the app has it pre-loaded. Sounds like Apple.com is the consensus for fastest ordering, just wondering if I’ll have to be even faster typing all my info in on order day.
[doublepost=1536583749][/doublepost]Nevermind, I found the sign in under the “bag” icon on the website.

How does the IUP work when trading in your old phone? This is my first year and I plan on trading in my 8 to get a 10s. Do they mail me a new phone and I return the 8 to the nearest Apple store at some point or must I pick up the phone in an Apple store so they can inspect my 8 before giving me the new phone?

Question for Sprint users (maybe other carriers too):

I have the 7+ and will be interested in getting a new device. Can I still preorder a new iPhone from the Apple site and get the iPhone forever upgrade at the same time?

I will be going for iPhone XS Plus either Gold or Space Grey.

As usual I’ll be pre ordering from Apple.com or Apple Store App.

T-Mobile as I guess they are the only carrier who will sell unlocked phone at full price.

I’ll be coming from a 6S + to an XS Plus. I’m pretty excited as I’m sure it will be quite the jump from the 6S to the latest phone.

Hi all, here we are again, a year later - as usual!

Wow, just got through to Apple site pre order in 6 min. 128, gold, Xs Max, delivery Sat, Sept 22, requires signature. What a load off my back. Hope others saw TV FLASH alert at 11 pm, you had to really be watching. Once in a life time Apple pro mo. Check Apple site for details. Steve would have been proud............

Whoops, I must have fallen asleep and been dreaming................

Oh well, one can hope. . See you all Wednesday, when we go bankers.

I’m getting the silver 64 GB 6.5-inch Xs or 5.8-inch Xs depending on the price.

Will preorder at apple.com as soon as available which will be at 8am on 9/14 I guess... Can’t wait anymore!

You will be happy with a plus. First day I thought I made a BIG mistake with the 7 plus, two days later I was sold on it. Bought the X last year and it was way too small and after 2 weeks returned it, too small, been using the 7 plus for two years now. Been wating for this new giant......long live large.....

You order, they send new phone, you transfer data to new phone, send back old phone and once they examine it they close the acct for that phone.

im going to keep the site open but i'll be focusing on the app. I have my gift card already loaded and i know the process like the back of my hand.

From the looks of it the Xs+ in gold (and space grey) look to be the most desirable models.

How long does it usually take to sell out? The most desirable model. First time I’ll preorder.

again it depends, last year the initial stock in Canada at the apple store was sold out at 3:06AM (6 minutes in) I could onl get into the app at 3:05. If you go through a carrier, it's' different because they have a different supply. The prevailing wisdom is that if you want a launch day delivery of the most popular configuration and color, you have to simply try your best to pre-order as fast as possible.

That was super fast!
I’ll be on both site and app refreshing and place my order on whichever gets updated first.
I want the 64GB 6.5-inch in silver hopefully not many people after that one please

I hammer the Apple Store app on my iPhone and iPad, and I hit the website on my iMac. The iPhone app usually gets me in first. Going for the 6.5, but the color choice will waffle and likely be a last second decision. I lean toward silver, but I have that in the current X, and I usually like to change it up year to year.

When people say "hammer", what exactly is meant by that?

(1) You use a physical hammer (j/k)
(2) You swipe back and forth or refresh the app
(3) You kill the app and relaunch every few seconds

Which is it?

The reason I ask is because I had a very bad experience ordering the X last year. And I really don't want a repeat of what happened. My friend and I were both sitting down with our iPhone 7's. He got his iPhone Store app to allow him to add the iPhone X to cart almost instantly at like 12:02 PST. I must have refreshed my app and killed/relaunched it for a good 30 minutes and still I couldn't get the app to allow me to place an order. How could this happen?

We were both using iPhone 7's. We had perfect reception on WiFi. When my friend switched to cellular, he could still order an iPhone. We couldn't figure out why I couldn't. I ended up finally using his phone to order my iPhone and that was already an hour or so into the process, which cost me extra weeks of waiting time.

I was not happy, especially since I tried everything I could to order this damn phone at the right time. I prepared as much as I could have to no avail. My account was in good standing, in case you're wondering. There was nothing special or wrong with it because the following day I was able to get to the checkout process without a problem when I checked.

What gives? Anybody run into this before?

It's a worry that I have every year that, for some unknown reason, I won't be able to get through before delivery dates get pushed out. I kill the app and relaunch every few seconds. If I don't get in early, and my preorder delivery gets pushed out several weeks, I'll resort to the physical hammer.
