What a sad state of affairs that mask wearing has to be put in the political section.
People, mask wearing is to protect your fellow humans regardless of race, creed, faith, beliefs, etc.
Yes, people do it to protect others. But the fact is it doesn't protect others. So some of us ask, then why do it? I think it's a fair question.

You people wear your mask if it makes you feel better. I just ignore you and continue to live my life without wearing one. 7 months later and I still don’t know anyone who has contracted the china virus.

Agreed. The hysteria and the acceptance to wearing masks is really interesting. The mask shaming almost turns to violence at times, amazing. I've read that some folks will wear one indefinitely going forward, no matter the situation. The 30% of all common colds are caused by a strain of the corona virus family (known for over 5 decades). We'll likely all be exposed to it eventually..

To me, this isn't political at all, I'm not a rabid Trump supporter nor do I agree with the leftist ideologies that are being embraced by some "progressives". But to our politicians it sure appears to be. The mayor of LA is shutting down utilities to people who have large gatherings at their house, but joins thousands of people not complying with state guidelines during these mass protests? I'm sure I'll be ridiculed for speaking my opinion, but that's the standard response to anyone that doesn't agree with your view. Shout and shame me all ya want.

An example of why it's harder to deal with something like a pandemic in various places.

I know it won’t be certified as a N95 in the USA, due to having ear loops instead of straps that go behind your head.

Most things don't need to be certified to be real. If they are from China, then they are most likely following Chinese standards GB12345 etc. When you see N95 on masks from China, that means they are N95 equivalent, in some cases, you will see KN95.

For bullet vests, we have NIJ IIIA etc, ones from China are NIJ rating equivalent. They are not rubber-stamped by NIJ, aka, they did not pay fees to the US government, that doesn't mean they are fake.

The certification business is a money-grabbing monopoly.

There is no real or fake in Engineering Standards. Only meets or doesn't meet the standard.

It’s a good thing you aren’t here in the US. We’ve had nearly 6.5 million cases of the Trump virus, and almost 200,000 dead. You probably don’t know any of them either. But they’re still dead.

How many of them would still be alive if Trump hadn’t lied to us over 8 months ago, when there hadn’t even been a single death yet in the US? 50,000? 100,000? 150,000? Hard to say...

PS Patriotic Americans wearing masks do it mostly to protect others. Those who are frightened of them and refuse to wear one are still able to infect us Patriots, even if they’re not showing symptoms yet.

I know 6 people who got it. One co-worker, three close friends and the family of one of those friends. But I’m in NYC which was, until we started wearing masks in public, the global epicenter of the virus transmission. And while I know 6 people who got it, none contracted it after April.

Doctor here. Masks save lives. There's PLENTY of literature on this. The best accidental case-study was two hairdressers who worked on hundreds of clients while infected, and none of the clients became infected. It's not even a little bit controversial. Just ask yourself - would you be okay with your surgeon not wearing a mask in the OR?

It's great that Apple is working on this as well. A good design goes a long way towards both comfort and safety.

Dave

Yeah, doctor here too. It doesn't make you right. So you'd be ok with everyone wearing masks forever because it decreases risk from everything we've been around forever too right?

Tell that to your President. He did a 180 on 20 July. How did you miss that?

He says wearing a mask is patriotic, but I guess you don’t want to hear that. So you just keep right on being... you.

I, on the other hand, as a proud, patriotic member of the Democratic Party, will continue to wear a mask 🤷‍♂️

Your president HAS to say that...he has to conform and play the game. He's doing a spectacular job as well. And there is also no such thing as a patriotic member of the wacko democratic party.

If Apple offered those masks for sale to consumers, I would certainly buy a few if they were about $5 each. The only thing I don't like about them is that the straps wrap around the ears. I prefer straps to wrap around the head. All my N95 mask straps wrap around my ears and they have a tendency to slip off from my ears.

So tell me, why is it, in every operating theatre around the world, when there is a patient with an infectious disease, do we all wear face masks? Are the entire medical and nursing professions around the world, so stupid that we have been doing something that doesn't work all these years.

It's all about risk...the risk with this is so low it's so dumb to even think about shutting stuff down, masks, etc.

Seems like those might not be actual N95 masks as the real (certified) ones have headbands rather than ear loops:

Does it come with AppleCare is my question? :)

Yes but AppleCare only provides service if the mask ear loops break. If you actually contract COVID-19 with sympthoms, you need AppleCare+ which has a $99 a month premium and a $1000 deductible (with 20% coinsurance if you use an out of Apple Ecosystem physician).

Why is a discussion on face masks considered to be "political"? I think it is crazy that wearing or not wearing a face mask to reduce the spread of illness has become political.
I agree. Just because there are people that have decided to take a position opposite to scientifically and medically prudent behaviors in response to a pandemic, does not make the issue “political.” It simply means that there are irresponsible people out there; we shouldn’t allow irrational decisions and stubborn people to co-opt society’s response to a life and death situation.

There's too many posts here to count asking WTF? Why is this classified as political news?
I'd like to know that too. What does MR feel about a facemask to protect people's health is political in nature?

It’s not political. It’s science. If losers want to politicize or deny science they are uneducated simpletons and I have no time for them. If you were not smart enough to be able to take physics, chemistry and calculus in high school or college that’s not my problem, it’s yours. Obtain an education then we can have a debate. An opinion is one thing, facts are another and they are not up for debate.

I know people who have died, and I know people who have been sick for months, and will have to live with organ damage. And this is in Canada where there is a tiny fraction of the number of cases elsewhere. Don't be an idiot. The longer idiots go around maskless the longer they'll need to be worn. And the more parents and grandparents who will die.

Basically this:

You people wear your mask if it makes you feel better. I just ignore you and continue to live my life without wearing one. 7 months later and I still don’t know anyone who has contracted the china virus.
And now I know why this is marked as "Political" ... MR was well aware the crazy racists would come in spewing nonsense about a non political topic, and of course those of us with brain cells would have to react and correct them.
