Why is a discussion on face masks considered to be "political"? I think it is crazy that wearing or not wearing a face mask to reduce the spread of illness has become political.

A lot of double-speak, hypocrisy, half-truths, and misdirection from the left and right got us here. People that don't pay attention might not remember who said what when, but the internet doesn't forget. That said, it is only 14 days to slow the spread... that really isn't that long...

This is why I get a quad flu shot every year and starting next year my first pneumonia.

"Although the infection fatality rate of flu is less than 0.1 percent, roughly 10 times less than that of COVID-19 (current estimates range from 0.5 percent to 1 percent), it still kills 30,000 to 60,000 Americans every year. “Here we have a disease, influenza, a scourge of humankind going back centuries,” said epidemiologist George Rutherford, MD. “We have a vaccine that’s pretty effective. There’s no reason for us to be filling our ICUs with people with influenza who didn’t get vaccinated.”"

Only here in the US 🙄

Trump weaponized mask wearing and gaslighted his low-education, low-information followers (approx 38% of adults) into believing COVID was “just a flu”. No need to wear a mask; look at those stupid Democratic governors taking away their state’s residents freedom by requiring mask wearing in public.

The Republican party for a few decades now has been anti-intellectual and anti-education in their policies. It’s essential if they are to maintain power against the backdrop of changing demographics that will have whites as the minority in the not so distant future.

Dumbing-down textbooks, promoting home schooling and “charter” schools (publicly-funded private schools) so kids aren’t taught sex education (abstinence only!); Darwin/natural selection, carbon-13 dating and dinosaurs and people living at the same time (the earth is only 5,000 years old, right?); eliminating civics (a waste of time!); and anything else that Republicans deemed too threatening to their future political viability.

Fast forward and Trump is the result, not the cause. He just took advantage of the ignorant and easily frightened—and a significant number of racist Americans.

You reap what you sow Republicans. You’ve destroyed your party and done major damage to the country that will take decades to repair.

If Trump told his followers the Apple clear mask gave you cancer, they’d believe him. Even if scientists tested—and the media were to widely report—that it was 100% eaffective against COVID-19.

That’s where we are, and it’s a sad state of affairs indeed.

The admins and site owner love perpetuating drama for ad clicks, it's the reason PRSI exists. They could easily clean up a lot of the crap if they wanted to, yet they prefer to categorize science as politics and further the nonsense drama of it all.
In the US, science IS political.

Thanks Republicans for your decades of anti-education and anti-intellectualism!

Because unfortunately a majority of one very prominent US Political figure's supporters have made it so.
They followed their dear leader. This is mostly Trump’s fault, sure, but the Republicans have spent a few decades laying the foundation by making sure their political base were ignorant.

I do wish Apple would sell these, I’d buy one in an instant.

This is so stupid. Lose the masks people. Move on and live.
The mask isn’t to protect the wearer, for the most part. It’s to prevent infected wearers from infecting others.

How can you not know that? Oh right. Stop watching Fox News and you might actually learn the truth. It’s nowhere near as frightening in the real world as it is in Trump world. Stop being so deathly afraid of a little piece of cloth. It’s not a good look.

I hope that masks continue to improve and become more innovative with safety and comfort with the next couple of years. Perhaps water proof when it rains would be a nice improvement.
I, for one, hope none of us need to wear masks in the next couple of years.
