Not again...

This company really loves repeating past mistakes. Can't wait for Bendgate 2.0 and the "Moth" keyboards with new thinner key switch designs that resemble the wings of a moth.

I want it. Battery life has already reached the point where it no longer matters. How many days does a laptop have to run on battery for you and why? The all-day battery is enough, there is no need to carry a larger battery inside at all times especially since we have fast charging and devices consume so little power. Now is the time to lighten those devices.
What are you talking about: days???
If you can do a full day on a macbook pro, you should have bought an ipad or macbook air. You're probably only using it for safari and word.
Some professionals NEED the power and then the battery runs 5-6hrs, a far cry from a 9-10hr workday.
We don't need a flawed by design butterfly keyboard again for making it .001mm thinner: nobody cares

So stop this sillyness by making it thinner on PRO devices, do it with the nonpro devices: fine

Don't say you were not warned

so going back to the previous design for MacBook Pros? Thinner, less powerful, not so great battery and no ports? I guess this is a smart move for Apple, they will sell a bunch, then people will realize they miss having all the ports and benefits a slightly thicker laptop brings and they will release a new MacBook Pro bringing this all back AGAIN. Then of course they will make a big deal about it, and pat themselves on the back for listening to what the pros want, as well as remind us how eco friendly they are because they buy so many carbon credits. I really really wish there was options other then Apple that have as good an eco system. Tried the other guys and sadly is the only one that I really resonate with for work.

I'll admit it's a sound business strategy. Get everyone excited about a thinner and lighter device, then make everyone realize how much they've had to live without in exchange for that by offering a device that reverts the compromises. Repeat the cycle every 10 years (5 for thin and 5 for revert).

if the average consumer had long-term memory or did detailed comparisons this wouldn't work of course, but I don't have much faith in either being the case.

It's not lack of understanding. We know that adapters exist. But adapters are easy to misplace or forget. When I head into a meeting room, the predominant connector is still HDMI. Not having to remember an adapter is one less thing I have to think about. I just sit down and plug the cable that's sitting there into my computer with no hassle or fuss. I'll take an HDMI port over a 4th Thunderbolt any day of the week to just not have to deal with a ****ing adapter.

I said cable, not adapter. You know the difference, right?

We can be compared to sheep quite easily in that regard, especially with Apple and their keen way of making people believe whatever they are doing now is the best there ever was and is to come. Found this comparison picture of a 2010 MacBook Pro and an M1 Max MacBook Pro. Save some slight modernization with the bezel and track pad it is basically the same thing. Ports are basically identical as well, just updated with USB-C.

the useless HDMI port is not the feature I need in my MBP.

the CPU, GPU and HDR screen are. if Apple made an AIR with the Max or Ultra chip and a 16 HDR screen, I'll get one.
You would see no benefit from a Max or Ultra chip in an Air because it would heat throttle fairly soon. Besides, the Studio's heat sink and fan for the Ultra is massive and heavy; no way it's going in any thin and light laptop. Hell, when I was testing the M1 MacBook Air, I could get it to throttle in Lightroom.

They are thin enough. Give us more battery life.

I swear, when they run out of ideas they resort to "make it thinner".

They aren't and the batteries in the 16" are already the maximum allowed on planes by FAA regulation. Thinner and more efficient electronics are preferable any day to just stuffing more battery in a bigger case. I hope they bring back the 12" form factor using modern AS tech.

I don't care all that much about the MacBook Pro's thickness, but it could definitely use a weight reduction. That 16" is heavy. I'm not really expecting to see a reduction in thickness/weight until the MBPs get OLED in ~2026, though, unfortunately.

Apple has fully run out of ideas. It’s clear that they are ruining the MacBook again so they can fix it again. Sorry but you’re wrong if you think this is a good decision. We already saw how this went once. Apple is not going to invent new physics that allow them to magically air cool processors with less air. A thinner laptop will have worse thermals. The price we will pay will be reduced processing power relative to what we would have without it.

If you don’t like how heavy the MBP is, just get the Air. Let’s be honest, you weren’t using the processing power - you just think you need the best thing on the market and like to throw money away. That much is obvious, since you’re now begging Apple to make a worse product because you’re too weak to carry around your status symbol.

Here’s an idea, get a bag with thicker straps. Or one with wheels.
They don’t even need to invent anything, there are better solutions out there already

Way to be condescending... Of course I know the difference, but is it really relevant here? If the cable in the room I intend to present in has an HDMI on the end of it, do you expect me to bring my own USB-C to HDMI cable and swap out the cable in the room? That's worse than a dongle... The whole point of having the HDMI right on the computer is to not need to look for other solutions when you enter a meeting room or want to connect to a TV that has "gasp" HDMI on it. Cable or dongle, doesn't matter and is besides the point entirely.

This is great news! Thinner is better, even when that means still having a camera bump. Please, Apple, also add a notch to iPads, and get rid of the headphone jack on MacBooks. I'm so glad Touch ID is not coming back to the iPhone. Tim Cook is so innovative! Tim Cook can do no wrong!

I doubt this report. The thing that people actually ask for and want is lighter devices. lighter devices end up thinner. It's the marketers who reframe this to be about how then it is because that is how you visually convey that it's also going to be lighter. And it's too early for this to be framed in marketing speak.
