The manufacturing process for the SE vs. the X is probably pretty drastically different. With only 8% of sales, just didn’t make sense to continue it. Complain all you want, but it just wasn’t a big seller. And, from Apple’s perspective, they probably saw it as the lost cost alternative, which has now been taken over by the 7.
Only 8% of sales because it’s not popular, or because it’s not been updated?

Never mind, I know your answer already

I can’t afford any of those. I hope my phone lasts until I am in a better financial situation.
Sometimes a wonder if Apple would be better off if they shipped iOS with a financial planning app. *Not* saying that that's *your* problem. Just wondering if they could pull it off and help a lot of people.

Switching gears a bit. What do people think about the SE vs. 7 or 7+?

What's it like it going from, say, the SE to the 7? Is the phone still comfortable, manageable, pocketable? Does the extra screen size or weight prove a cumbrance? Or, does it open up better browsing?

What about battery life?

Ah, found it. I've deleted the usual hedge "up to" to make the chart easier to read.

.............................iPhone SE.................iPhone 7............iPhone 7+

Talk time:..........14 hours...Talk (wireless): 14 hours.............21 hours

Internet:..................13 hours..................12 hours.............13 hours

Video play (wireless): 13 hours..................13 hours............14 hours

Audio play (wireless): 50 hours..................40 hours............60 hours !!

https://www.apple.com/iphone/compare/

So, the iPhone 7 takes a hit on Internet and audio playback. The 7+ does much better than both.

LOL! Have you read the definition for condescension or patronizing recently?! They could use your sentences as examples of it.

I cracked up over the line "didn't make something specifically for you, boo hoo."

What you should have written was, "Apple didn't make something that millions of users specifically want!"

Looks like you got the point. Congrats

Actually, you don't.

I would say it's a combination of both. The SE had a minor update last March (2017) to increase the storage, but it obviously never had the latest and greatest tech in it - which was by design to keep it the low cost alternative.

We'll probably never fully know exactly why the sales were low - whether it was because the small form factor turned people off, or if the lack of the latest and greatest tech specs did. Like I said, it was probably a bit of both.

You are obviously rather "passionate" about this decision - do you even own and iPhone SE?

You don't get the greed?
[doublepost=1536828298][/doublepost]
The customer base that wants a phone smaller than the new lineup is not small, you just have to look at the negative comments. What is your source?
[doublepost=1536828462][/doublepost]
Your argument is flawed. Having a small lineup compared to what the competition does makes for larger profits.
You only have to look at all the negative comment to see that Apple makes polarising decisions that benefit Apple first and customer last.

Never been a big seller, only 8% of total sales? A contradiction right there, do the math.
[doublepost=1536828942][/doublepost]
Those who use it for video because the phone doesn't have a removable sd card.

Huh? 8% isn't a lot...

Do you know how percentages even work?

If I gave you a 10% pay rise would you be happy or sad?

How many phones does 8% equal?

Did you know that Apple has sold 2 billion iOS devices. Lets say that "smaller devices" each year was 10% of that figure for easier maths.

Over the lifetime, 10% of 2 billion is 200 million devices. Not a lot eh!

The video gaming that Apple presented on their keynote yesterday bored the crap out of me.

Yes, could something have been edifying? All swords and guns. Are we so numb to violence?
Granted, Galaga has a special place in my heart. But that was impossible to follow.

8% is likely wrong as it’s a total guess because only Apple knows. And yes, 8% is still relatively small given that 92% are other iPhones.

Anyway, the question isn’t how many people own the SE. The question Apple likely asked, studied and answered with this decision is, “Can we get SE owners to buy other phones in our lineup that are more cost effective?”

I bought a loaded 7 when it came out, thanks to the hype. I felt cheated. The camera *in my experience* was not as great as advertised. The size was not comfortable for me to hold securely. I like wired headphones, and I like to keep my screen on when I'm on the phone (on headphones) which presented a charging problem. I felt like I had overpaid. I sold it and bought an iPhone SE, which I am still happily using (yes, even though the total outlay was very high). The SE is an ideal design for me. I can stick it in my cupped palm and take photos from any angle without losing grip. The size, the non-slippery edges, and the Bauhaus/Braun design cues please me. It cost me a lot of money to arrive at the solution that worked for me.

I can't really speak for anybody else, but by the time I've payed the bills, there just isn't much money to plan with. It's a good idea, but I don't think it would be much help in my particular case.

First off, you might do well to take a deep breath and take a step back from this - no need to get overly emotional.

Secondly, and to the point, I think it is perhaps you that is struggling with the concept of percentages. The whole point of a percentage is to give you a comparative number. In Q3 of 2018, Apple sold 41.3 million iPhones. 8% of those were the iPhone SE - or about 3.3 million phones. Sure, 3.3 million is numerically a lot - but comparatively it’s only 8%. Hence, the point of percentages.

Now, if you still feel that 8% is a big number (which, again, it isn’t), let’s consider overall revenue. Unfortunately, I don’t have a break down of how much Apple actually earns per phone - but we can safely assume that Apple earns significantly less from each iPhone SE than say the iPhone X or even iPhone 8 (both of which sold in the double digit percentage wise). As such, the revenue from the iPhone SE would be even less than 8% - probably closer to 5%

In short, yes 8% isn’t a large number. In fact, it is 92% less than 100!

so! where to buy now the SE brand new?
I was waiting for today to see the SE2, no SE2, so now I want a SE.
also there NO macbook pro without that damn stupid bar.
awful apple day!!!!!
Amazon has them, at least they did a couple of days ago. Also probably stores like Walmart and Target will be wanting to unload the SE.

I'm seriously thinking about getting a new SE whilst still available, just to have it when my first one breaks or something. I'd gotten it when the SE first came out, and it's a stellar phone; don't want any other form factor. And...it's too late for me to go into any other company, because of wanting my phone to always 'talk' to my iMac and other devices.

So basically, Apple is no longer cares about customer experience, it cares about profit margin over everything else? Great!

Apple is turning into Microsoft of the 90s/early 2000s.

Also, I have noticed that a lot of people in Europe still use the 5s/SE device. I have seen more of those devices out in the wild than the X.

The SE has a higher market share in a lot of places than the X.

After a few months, once the dust settles on upgrades, new buys, etc., they will quietly introduce an iPhone SE 2.

Would love this - a March 2019 introduction. Not sure if it'll happen though.

Who said the SE is a great experience? Times have changed...people generally seem to want bigger displays...I mean, the market confirms this.

Customer satisfaction for 2017 (when the SE was still relatively new) was higher than the iPhone 6,6S and 7.

Sad to see there's no replacement for the SE. I really don't care about most of the capabilities anymore, but do occasionally need to check an e-mail or something.

My 6+ and the wife's 6 will live on, so guess I better get the batteries replaced.

I agree my 6s plus has ran great for 3yrs. When’s the last day for battery replacement.

In the same way that MacBook Pro users generally seem to "want" fewer ports, batteries that you can't replace yourself anymore, as well as RAM and SSD soldered to the logic board...
Yeah, just with those, mot of th market doesn’t care. I personally like the universal ports versus single use ones like SD card readers, old USBs and other nonsense.

Most people have no interest in replacing anything. Sorry, just how consumer electronics work. Build your own machine.
