I'm waiting to spend $2K on the next Max version but without notch which will make it a true symmetrical 6.5" and without Face ID which has too many false positives. Wonder what are they're going to call it though, iPhone XoXo Mega?

Dropping the SE is obviously a desperate attempt to shore up sales of the iPod Touch. :D

Yes, I just checked on the Apple site, they're still selling the iPod Touch.

Apple operates on data that none of us have access to. They make decisions based on market research, ROI, profit margin, deeply analyzed sales data, etc. What I see is a lot of people using personal emotion to justify why Apple should offer a certain product like the SE and that is not how businesses are run. Spending a lot of money to redesign a small screened phone that the market expects to be budget priced isn't a formula for making big profits.

Apple offers the iPhone 7 as their budget model right now. I think it's quite likely it will see a price drop within the next 6 months and match the old SE at $349 or possibly a little higher at $399. The return on selling the 7 at that price is likely better then trying to redesign the SE and getting a return on it. If there was a market for an expensive premium small screened phone, Apple would have one. There isn't.

For now, you can still get the SE from MVNOs, like Cricket. I wonder how long stocks will last, or if it's actually quietly staying in production as a "budget/entry" phone for countries with lower incomes (and the lower-income people here in the USA)?

Yes, I just checked on the Apple site, they're still selling the iPod Touch.

And it still has a headphone jack ;-)

They must be making quite a margin on the Touch these days, since the price has stayed stable while the components have aged...
[doublepost=1536810354][/doublepost]Another problem is: it's hard/impossible to find a small Android phone that's got good internals.
I bought an Essential PH-1 on sale. It's bigger than the SE, but not as big as other flagships. But it has those nice sharp SE-style edges and is comfortable to hold. Technically, it's an OK phone. Not amazing. But it's really pretty.

I have personally bought every iphone since iphone 3gs. This year is the first time i won't buy a new one. The prices are ridicouless, and i hope a lot of other people will do the same, so nexts years iphone may be a little cheaper.
But its probably just my own little dream :(

I was the same way. Upgraded every year since the 4. I’m surprised to hear myself say I’m not upgrading this time around. Like, whaaaaaaat? Lol. The 10 works perfectly for me and seems like the exact same as the 10S.

I will go for the X(R)/ It is an X without things I don't care about. 3D touch, have a 6S+ today and it is more irritating than useful. Two lenses? I have a real camera Sony A7III thank you so plenty good for what I need.
LCD vs OLED sure there is a difference but worth $250?! Hardly!
I will wait for October and order a X(R) in blue!

It is more than the 8, sure but that also means it will last longer...

I think I’m going to buy an iPhone SE somewhere right now, I’m sick of apples greed and the new iPhone xr is a joke.

I have an 8 Plus, but I just ordered an SE from Consumer Cellular for $160 (32 GB model). I will use it as an extra phone to see how well I like it, and if I do then I might sell my 8 Plus. Love the 8 Plus' screen but man, it's not comfortable to try to hold it with one hand.

I had hoped for an updated SE, but I see that Apple is going in the complete opposite direction. Fair enough, but I'm not paying more than a grand for a phone and an even heavier phone than my 8 Plus does not appeal to me.

It's too bad. The SE had such a fantastic design too. I have been on the fence about getting one, but now is the time to just jump and do it. The existing supply is going to dwindle down as the days go by and there will be no more.

I can see this new SE lasting for the next few years at least. I do very little with my phone that requires a lot of power or memory. I am a casual user at best.

RIP to the Product RED iPhone 8 as well, so I'm super glad I went on ahead and bought one on Saturday. Now to try to get that $100 price match refund....
Why would you buy a new iPhone just days before they announce the new lineup, before the existing phones have been reduced in price? There's a buyers guide here for a reason.

I think that's why you see a lot of complaints about Tim. He knows how to maximize profits, and it comes a little at the expense of creating the best possible products. You could argue that Steve was more focused on the product. Apple still runs on a lot of good will, they can jack up the prices, do minor features updates and people will buy it, so why not? They also don't really have to worry about competition (so far), which allows them to slow down feature development. If people want a smaller phone, they don't have an alternative, so Apple doesn't need to worry about people jumping ship.

Such absolute and horrible and ridiculous prices for a phone. Prices for the top of the line iPhone Xs Max is close to getting a top model MacBook Pro 13" with touch bar already. What is this world coming to?

I think the value and pricing makes complete sense. You talk about the iPhone like it’s a low-tech corded phone yet most people consider it their most important computing device... or any device for that matter.

iPhones are pushing the envelope with things like Face ID, the latest camera tech, 7nm CPU, latest glass tech, higher density and higher quality displays, etc. all packed into something that fits in the palm of your hand vs a laptop that uses older tech like LCD’s and biometric tech that was used in iPhones several generations ago. There’s no question, the iPhone is the more sophisticated and advanced piece of technology.

I was really hoping for an SE upgrade too as I like to run with that. I don't want a large phone bobbing up and down on my arm.

That said, I'm debating 128 gb Xr for $800 or the 64 gb Xs for $1000 ($50 more to go from 64 gb to 128 gb is worth it on the Xr. $150 to go from 64 gb to 256 gb not so much on the Xs for me. I've got the 16 gb SE now, so I probably would be fine with 64 gb). I'd keep the SE for running and the Xr/Xs as my daily driver, just pop the sim in/out.

I think the issue people aren't realizing is that the SE design fooled a lot of prior 5 and 5s owners and they didn't realize it was a massive upgrade, so didn't buy it. I believe if apple used the same body size as the 5/5s/SE but it had a new design and full front screen (4.7) or even a slightly bigger body with 5" screen (like with the X series), it would sell like crazy.

Bummer about the SE, but since the 6s it was based on is gone...I was really hoping they'd upgrade it. Seems like the Xr will pick up the battery life mantle from the SE. They said 1.5 hrs longer than the 8 Plus....bring it on.

The Xr has the same main Camera and CPU (just no zoom camera). Doesn't have 3d touch (has something else to get by with) and no OLED. But its bigger than the Xs and will have the longest battery life of them all - 1.5hrs longer than a 8 Plus. Value wise if you can live without the Zoom camera and OLED it knocks it out of the park compared to the Xs and Maxi Xs. JHMO...

I was super confused which phone to pick.. Plus user, so was not sure about if the screen on the 5,8" would feel like a downgrade. This very clean post convinced me to go for the Xr.

Thank you Sir!

! please tell me the headline is just these derp editors here screwing up.WHAT! what the F.... is this headline. the killed the iPhoneX. I just bought the damn thing. please tell me this is my madness or these editors here are massively f'n up.

Thank You, Mister Cook, for eliminating the only small phone in your line up. The only Phone, that is not a ridiculous phablet.

I had no idea, that You zeroed out customer satisfaction.

And still no new mac mini. Apple just hit rock bottom.

Bozos all over the place.

Steve would have never allowed this.

I see no serious problem in this. For the first time since iPhone 4 the successor to my current phone (an iPhone SE) will not be made by Apple. Not out of spite, it’s simply because I can’t handle a phone that is much larger than 4 inches. Neither does it fit in a pocket nor can I use it with one hand.

Looks good. But its still 'going back to basics' .. We've come full circle...

1. We bought out the 'dumb' phones
2. Then went to smart phones.
3. And now going back to step 1 again.

Why not just get a Nokia 3315 ? If we want privacy, we don't need a new phone..

With a new phone that takes "out" all the stuff today, we still are going to wonder about security and privacy, particularly when its already solved.

I really never use the smart stuff when i leave my house, i only use messaging, calls, maps and my camera.

But a phone that just does sms and calls is simply too old fashioned. I went back to a smartphone quickly.

And if privacy is a concern, nobody must install apps beside the stock apps and nobody is forced to keep a data connection constantly. Just switch it off and you got an old fashioned phone with the same privacy. But you can switch data on if really needed and benefit from the new stuff.

Maybe that is the way to go, to get rid of this always online. We didn’t hang around phone cells for 15 hours constantly in the past worrying we could miss a call and that was sure healthier!

I don’t understand why the iPhone X would not be supported by Apple and discontinued?

To force people to purchase one of these disasters as soon as possible. Sorry, not going to happen. Nor do I apparently need to purchase any other of their devices. Better move on to a company that actually innovates instead of pushing last decade technology with three times the price. 5W charger? Get real.

That's an interesting point. I'll add that some purchases are also to "keep up with the Jones'" eg: conspicuous consumption, and the SE looked like an old phone, so there was no status to buying a new phone that looked like a 2+ year old phone.

I don't get the hate. You don't like it? Buy an android.
You don't get the greed?

Kind of a ridiculous statement. The customer base desiring a small iPhone is virtually nonexistent. Steve would have wanted more expensive phones if he could get people to shell out the cash. They are, and Steve’s happy in heaven.
The customer base that wants a phone smaller than the new lineup is not small, you just have to look at the negative comments. What is your source?

Your argument is flawed. Having a small lineup compared to what the competition does makes for larger profits.
You only have to look at all the negative comment to see that Apple makes polarising decisions that benefit Apple first and customer last.

The SE was never a big seller, for better or worse (about 8% of total iPhone sales)
Never been a big seller, only 8% of total sales? A contradiction right there, do the math.
[doublepost=1536828942][/doublepost]
I don't see the point of 512gb on your phone especially at that price. I was worried when I went down to 64 for my X but a year later im only at 41gb.
Those who use it for video because the phone doesn't have a removable sd card.

This has to be a clue for an SE2 in the spring.

I can't believe they won't have a smaller and cheaper phone in their lineup, since it is outselling all other models in some countries.

It’s too bad about the SE. It is a fantastic phone, but I understand why Apple discontinued it. I bought an SE for my wife shortly after it came out after seeing her frustration using the iPhone 6s (she is small and has small hands). For me, I find the typing experience a lot better on my 7.

I did just pick up a brand new SE though. I will keep it boxed and give it to my wife to use when her current SE breaks or gets lost/stolen.

Looking at the worldwide statistics of phone sales with respect to their size, the 4,7 inch SE (phone size, not screen size) is still within the most favored size group.

Hopes are still there they will make an SE2 with larger screen in the same size. I would be willing to pay iPhone XS prize for that.
