For me it’s less about the actual phone than about google and the fact that I have to let them track me in every aspect of my virtual life for their voice assistant and other things to work properly. I suppose Apple collects stuff on me too, but I feel less exposed in the Apple ecosystem since I have turned off all google tracking and can still use Siri. That said, nothing about 8 or x excites me enough. Just got the 7+ and I’m good for a while.

Every year I see an image like this - it started with the iPhone 4 if I remember right. As someone who was HEAVILY into Android and as someone who loves Google a lot more than Apple --- does it bother me? Do I feel the need to defend it? No not even a little.

My Samsung Note 3 was a great device. I liked it. But holey wow did it have its problems. Out of the box I couldn't get it to connect to WiFi no matter what I did - a firmware update was needed to fix it but of course Verizon wouldn't put out this update until years later so I had to root. Forced adware, lack of updates, horrible UI, etc... Yes, my Note 3 had Face Unlock but it barely worked and needed perfect lighting. Samsung phones back then were incapable of taking photos at night with the default Samsung camera settings (would take 4 seconds to take a photo and unless you held it perfectly it would be blurry unless you turned off the default setting) - I remember helping 5-6 Samsung Galaxy owners do this at the Hollywood Bowl years ago but not before they got so frustrated with their inability to take photos while iPhone users snapped away.

I could write a book about what I think is wrong with Android. My most recent venture with the Nexus 6 solidified within me what I already knew. Android is fragmented, requires a bit of tweaking and working to make it work right out of the box. The Nexus 6 I got had a bug where the Google Services used 100% CPU and would make the phone burning hot and run out of battery in a few hours - out of box. The screen was unusable outside in sunlight. And I had to return it because of LTE radio issues where it wouldn't go back to LTE if it went to 3G unless you rebooted the phone.

The Pixel is probably the closest Google has gotten to get me to return. Like any phone, iPhone included, it has its issues but it is a really great phone. But even 4 months after its release, I couldn't find a Pixel XL anywhere. EVEN 6 months later!

Just because a Kia has a few features that a Porsche doesn't, doesn't make the Porsche a horrible car or "behind the times." Same goes for Samsung - albeit Samsung has REALLY closed the gap in the last few years to be a real contender. As an iPhone owner does this bother me? No.... I ENCOURAGE IT because Apple needs competition to do better and we as end users benefit.

I always tell people - if you haven't tried out Android - try it out. If you haven't tried out Apple, try it out. You really don't know unless you try for yourself. Each side has benefits and you need to find out what is best for you.

The fact that there are so many Android users out there willing to come to an Apple forum to defend their choice really makes me question things. I used to be a serious member of DroidForums.net - had a great few years helping people root, ask questions that weren't bashed with (if Steve Jobs thought it was worth it, he'd have done it!), and met some really nice people. We never really had Apple users coming to our forums like Android users do here. Quite interesting.

Choose for yourself what you like. I've made my decision and I encourage others to do the same - think for yourselves.

The only place I really see Android users bash apple is on macrumors/reddit, I don't see this behavior on xda. They're mostly geeking over their phones. But I love your comment.

I don't know, I didn't design the phone or supply the parts for it. I'm also not going around pretending like I'm the one with all the answers either, with no sources. Maybe you should go back and reread what I originally said. FFS.
Because PMOLED isn't being used by phones and we all know Samsung is making the displays which make AMOLED screens. I think there is only one manufacturer making PMOLED on phones and I think it's discontinued now.

I played with a Note 8 in Best Buy a week or two ago and don't get me wrong it's a great phone hardware wise which I really liked. However I cannot get around Android. That would be a solid step backwards IMO. iOS is much more polished and the X performance stomps the Note 8 despite it having "better" specs on paper.
Totally. I love ios and if it wasn't for the fact I love the S-pen I would probably get the iPhone x instead of the note 8

I had this same argument with my cousin. Samsung may have came out with some things before Apple, but Apple perfect them while Samsung screw up.

Screw up? I like Samsung phones and iPhones but no need to say one is worse than the other....

I signed up in this testing program with Samsung and got a S7 to test out for 6 months for free and I hated it. I tried to make it my daily device but I went back to my iPhone.
Still... You don't like it fine but the say it sucks is just as rubbish as Android people saying iPhones suck. I do have a Note 8 but I've had the 3GS, 4, 6 plus and 7. Also own an iPad Pro 10.5 still. Honestly these kinds of threads are just dumb.

There are Samsung people and iPhone people.
Neither is easily swayed.
A casual poll my find more unused Samsung's in kitchen junk draws then iPhones.

But it’s a Samsung, running Android... been there, done that. Samsung vs Apple. Specs vs UX. Thing is, specs should support my user experience regardless of how bleeding edge, or not, those specs are.

Apple definitely has room for improvement, but my personal user experience with Apple has me not even thinking about Samsung or any of their phones. Last I paid attention to their phones, I was hearing an airport announcement about passengers carrying a Note 7 would not be allowed to board the flight... WTF, for real. I’m sure they have that all behind them now, but again, not on my radar.

Very odd how Apple MUST beat Samsung on specs or else it’s doom, gloom, and/or whingin’ (yes, whingin’)

At 5.65 x 2.79 inches the iPhone X feels better in my hand. The 5.65 x 2.78 inches S6 is too narrow. But at 0.30 inches thick the iPhone X is a little too close to my face compared to the 0.27 inches thick S6 so the animations give me motion sickness. /s

Apple's A11 chip is better than idc. I am quite happy with my Note 8. Will probably buy an X but not because the A11 is better on paper or theroticial performance. Don't need a score of 10,000 on a geek bench score to post a few snaps on snapchat.

Yea I've said this before, Apple used to lead by 2-3 years, now they are behind by that much. And iPhone 7 corroborated that Apple didn't need to do much to sell like hotcakes, so it seems they have no pressure to innovate anymore.

How is Apple not innovative?

- A11 Bionic chip is years ahead of anything Snapdragon has to offer.
- Neural Engine
- W1 (and even the technology packed into the Airpods themselves)
- Stacked logicboard that frees up more space for more battery (iPhone X’s 2 battery pack “L” shaped battery that gives a nearly Plus size battery in a non Plus frame)
- FaceID (one of the high ups over at Qualcomm even stated that Apple’s FaceID tech is years ahead of everyone else. And now many smartphone manufacturers are scrambling to find face recognition start up companies to buy to try to catch up.)
- True Tone Display
- ProMotion (currently only on iPad)
- 3D Touch

And that’s just some things hardware wise. Software wise their approach to security and privacy can be considered. Also even all their work with health and the Apple Watch is innovative, which is something that actually helps people be more aware/active and become healthier and improve their lives.

Does Porsche use Ford parts? Because Apple is using Samsung's OLED display in their $999 phone. :p

And Apple is already going to be swapping to LG as early as next year. As they have during the summer heavily invested in LG OLED manufacturing.

Every smartphone uses parts from other companies. Samsung uses Sony camera sensors. So who cares. Thats how it goes.

As soon as they stop crippling their Qualcomm modems to match the inferior Intel, I'll be a lot less annoyed.

LG? The same LG everyone else has been complaining about screen quality with? The one that's taking forever to release their new device?

Are they going with lower quality to avoid paying Samsung?

I would trust LG any day over Samsung. LG OLED TV’s are without a doubt the best TV’s on the market and have been for at least a few years now. I doubt it’s to “avoid” paying Samsung. Apple has always used both LG and Samsung to manufacture displays for a very long time now (their Macs have often flip flopped year to year between the two)

That's what bothers me the most. They use so many different suppliers that it's like playing the lottery. Most people might not experience any issues but I always do. Which is weird because before I got my first iPhone, I'd never once had to warranty my devices. Guess that's just my luck.

At least Apple can make those features actually work well (and help them become adopted in the mainstream tech industry). And some of these points are just stupid. 12mp vs 16mp camera doesn't mean anything for camera quality, and I'd take a potato over any Galaxy camera anyway due to how oversaturated they all are. The screen being lower resolution doesn't matter either, because the human eye can't depict anything above 326ppi and the X is like 460-something if I remember correctly. All the screen on the Galaxy is doing is wasting battery.
As for the speed comment, it's typical Android fanboy nonsense. "Oh dude it has a eight-core processor it's automatically better." iPhone 6s (Mid/Late 2015) is still faster in single-core performance (which is more like real-time usage) than the Note 8 (Mid/Late 2017), and it is not far behind in multi-core performance while having TWO CORES!
Enjoy your half-baked features while us Apple fans patiently wait a little more time for the features that actually work.

The iPhone X is very flawed in my opinion, but I guess the Fandroid who made the photo wasn't smart enough to actually capitalize on those flaws and instead proceeded to make a stupid list of points that 80% don't make sense.

Why can't people just enjoy their phones without having to quote specs all the time? Something that is perfect for one persons needs, could be the opposite of what someone else needs. If I'm happy with something, **** what someone else thinks. No surprise a stupid thread like this was started by someone with a username like that.

Who buys Apple phones for cutting edge tech? Idiots?

I enjoy being part of the phenomenon of Apple, and i just want it to work. Thats' why I switched to IOS after the galaxy 2-3 era when i just got sick and tired of trying to find the new best rom that worked closest to not having anything on the phone at all. Launchers were a mess, too. Finally one day I flashed a rom and when i couldn't answer a call even I said ok that's that, and never looked back.
