While I miss the ability to walk into an Apple store to browse, I think we are lucky to have an Apple store open at all and the ability to purchase new Apple devices.

Yeah it’s not a very pleasant experience the two times I’ve been the past 8 months. I don’t really care for looking at an item while having an employee hover over me.

I get the intention but it’s definitely not for me. I think measures like that are more for show than anything.
Hi, if they're that concerned just shut everything down. Their efforts are similar to "hygiene theatre" cleansing surfaces (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/18/world/asia/covid-cleaning.html): all show but doesn't really keep us safe. That's why I wear goggles and N95. Guess that fancy apple mask needs more work on the drawing board.

With the extended return policy, I don’t see what the employee said a big deal. He was doing his job. Buy the phone and if you don’t like it, return it for something else or keep what you have.

your logic doesn't make sense. by going back i am further subjecting poor apple employees to possible infection. also, they did not mention any of the limitations prior to me entering the store. why should i buy something sight unseen and then have to return it just because I wasn't allowed to look at it.

Buy online and have it delivered. You are making a big deal out of nothing. If how the employee handled the situation bothers you so much, then don’t get an iPhone.

And mail in return if you don't like it.
That option gets rid of another excuse. I have gone to my local Apple Store during the pandemic several times. To me, having to wait in line a few minutes, having your temp taken and informed of current policy when entering the store is not as big deal to me. When I compare a slight inconvenience against the totality of my life experience day to day, the Apple Store is nothing. I am just thankful I can still get out of my house, go to the Apple Store and buy nice toys or make returns when needed. And if the store shuts down again, I will order online and if needed, return online.

I don't spend $1300 without looking at the merch first. you might be apple fan buy and just buy whatever. not my style.
Whatever. You just want to complain. Apple makes it real easy to buy and return items. They don't charge for shipping and you usually have it within a couple of days. What if you didn't live anywhere near an Apple store?

If a store has a click and collect only policy and isn’t open for browsing like many are not at the moment, don’t expect to be able to browse once inside. There enough information on these products on the internet right now to be able to make an informed decision before you turn up.

As the other person said they just changed it without informing customers. I went through their safety checks and no one mentioned the new policy.

We’re in the middle of a pandemic. I can’t even SEE phone as all stores are closed where I live.

For me Apple Stores are best avoided at the best of times, let alone in a pandemic with policies that change by the day. I haven’t browsed in a shop since mid March and made sure I ordered my iPhone online as soon as preorders went live. You can always return it and right now that’s a good system to use.

Are all phone techies D-heads or are they just concentrated in this thread? Wow, it is utterly ridiculous the man can’t compare the phones. If covid is the excuse it’s pretty simple to disinfect after each person. Hell even the grocery stores figured that out with the carts...lmao. Op I say screw Apple and maybe try target. I was at one here today and they had both on full display with both being full of selfie pics of customers. Lol

Hi sorry your argument doesn’t fly. They took my temp, I am wearing n95 mask, was wearing goggles and there are people socially distanced in a large high ceiling area with no walls.

I have had to sit for 15-20min waiting inside the 5th avenue store for my phone to be brought in after a battery replacement. The grand central terminal apple store is way safer IMO.

Apple was right to remove you from the store.

Why would they be "right to remove" me from the store when I arrived, stated the reason I was there, stood in line for 15 min, took a temperature test, signed in on ipad, was wearing a mask and goggles, .... only to be told that I had to leave without being able to even examine the phone for a short duration?

There was no mention of this as I stood in line from any of the apple employees. If they had mentioned we were not even allowed to examine the phone I would have left the apple store without lining up..

They absolutely should have let you handle both devices and given you proper time to make a decision.
This is what I don't get about the blind loyalty some people have for Apple. Apple makes tools. If another company makes a better tool next year I will switch. I followed the protocol stated by Apple employees and then was kicked out without notice because I wanted to spend a minute or two just handling the phone. I was mainly concerned with the size and heft.

My friend was able to handle both at Best Buy without getting kicked out. I guess evil Best Buy is putting the lives of its employees and customers at extreme risk and must be shut down immediately. Paging Cuomo!!!

Do you think my response would be any different if you had this experience buying a Samsung phone?

Having a less than satisfactory experience as you purchase your $1300 smartphone during a pandemic is a First World problem. That's just a fact.

You were deciding, no? You want to act like Apple owes you special treatment because you were buying a phone. You have too much time on your hands.
So looking at a phone is now considered "special treatment"? What world do you live in? I already looked at the reviews but had to see if it was either too big to hold or way heavier than the 12 Pro.

Yeah, it's all hygiene theatre. I last time I was in the 5th avenue store people were sitting around with their masks below nose. Surprised they werent't tackled by apple security. Plus it was a long wait inside before my item arrived so not sure how handling a phone for a couple of minutes, socially distanced, in an open air environment like the Grand Central location would be a threat.
