Any more 8 Plus users got their home button lag fixed in 11.0.1?
[doublepost=1506451231][/doublepost]
How does that show some sort of "planned obsolescence"? Seems like the same old invocations of Occam's and Hanlon's razors are in play, especially since we've gone through similar type of things in early iOS 10/9/8/7 days.
And there goes your short lived victory down the drain. 8 Plus users are reporting the bug has been fixed while it still exists on my 7 Plus
[doublepost=1506451459][/doublepost]
So many variables who knows? Lets see what 11.1 or 11.2 will bring. I bet it will be fixed, IMO there really is no incentive for Apple to slow down the home button on purpose. People will wait for the X anyway.
Can you check if its been fixed on your 7 Plus? Its not for me.

Isn’t the split second delay there to allow you a chance to double press the button for multitasking?

Shrug.

Seems like usual all these reports are all over the place: some claim never to have to issue, some claim to still have it, some claim not to have it anymore. It looks like even others with older devices are saying they are seeing improvements in different places.

Once again, seems like no particular conclusions can be drawn to somehow actually imply or support some sort of a conspiracy, as usual.

I will once I get home. (Hate the stupid Wifi requirement for updates)

Its all over the place. Reminds me when you interview people as witnesses. You get 10 different stories from 10 people that saw everything clearly.

How long do you expect your iPhone to be lag-free, squeaky clean? In 3 years, you'll be at least 2-3 iOS versions ahead, with lots of added features. You'll have 3 years of apps installed, data, text messages, photos, etc. I would bet, if you restored that phone and started as new, it will still run quite well, even after 3 years of daily usage. Over in Android land, these slowdowns happen in 6-12 months, and often without updating the operating system.
My 5 year old Windows 7 computer runs Windows 10 faster than Windows 7. Windows 10 has a new look, new features, added speed....old hardware.

I don’t “expect” Apple to follow in Microsoft’s shoes, as their business model is to sell you new hardware, not new software.

Probably at every big IT company out there - and for the record I have always seen lag with the home button just the rest of my interactions on my current phone are much faster and more fluid on ios 11 than the last version of ios 10. I know some people with older phones who have good experiences with this as well. I do think some OS releases are better optimised than others - I recall the mess that was Windows ME after the very good 98 for example.

Windows is a great example of planned obsolescence. Windows Vista was released to sell new hardware and keep the PC industry fresh, as many were scared the market was dead. Microsoft learned a hard lesson with Vista: Make your software run well on older hardware or else.

Microsoft realized optimizing their software = higher sales and they haven’t released a poorly optimized OS since.

Apple doesn’t sell iOS. They want you to buy their latest and greatest hardware, hence the slowdown.

Plenty of older Macs run recent/latest macOS versions just fine.

Running fine does not = the same or faster.
I don’t use a Mac currently so I won’t get into a debate about it. From my previous experience, however, my iMac slowed down as I continued to update it yearly.

Windows 10 runs faster than Windows 7 on my Dell Studio XPS 8000. Its impossible to implement planned obsolescence with Windows or Android because the phone is developed by 2 different companies. Google has no interest in hardware but just wants the software to run great. Samsung wants to sell the hardware. Both companies have no incentive individually to slow down the phone. Apple is in a unique position to do so as they control everything

Hypotheses can be fun and interesting, but on their own that's all they are. Same old Occam's and Hanlon's razors still apply.

That's really great that your PC is running so well, but I don't know that the example holds up well. Phones have size, heat, and power constraints that PC's don't have. The PC hardware market has stagnated pretty hard these past few years (outside of GPU's), where the mobile chips are continuing to be 50-100% faster year over year. In another 5-10 years, I suppose that will hit the peak, and we will see phones staying competitive for 3+ years. Right now, it's hard to design an OS around a 2017 chip, when people are trying to use it on 2013-2014 hardware that is multiples slower.

An iPhone is as fast as a MacBook these days. It holds up quite well, actually.

iOS shouldn’t be slowing down phones as much as it does, without outside help from Apple. The OS hasn’t changed enough to dictate the systematic yearly slowdown. If Apple completely rehauled iOS, we should see noticeable differences. The truth is, iOS 11 is quite similar to iOS 7 in design.

Believe what you want, in 10 years we’ll be reading the same thread....

The A11 Bionic is as powerful as an i5 from 2009 which still runs Windows 10 flawlessly.

Which doesn't account for anything else at all when it comes to differences between full desktop computers and minituarized confined compact mobile devices.

Apps open so fast I don't have time to press the home button before it's done opening. Am I missing something here? I phone 7 128gb running fine on iOS 11 for the most part. Only one ui issue in the text app. Nothing to write home about.

Home button lag still there on my 7 Plus iOS 11.0.1

Cannot instantly close apps midway through the animation.

We have a confirmation that the issue is fixed on the 8 Plus but the 7 Plus still has it.

Skip to 2:51. Home button is much faster Han 7 Plus.

Wow. They look very similar. Seems like the timing has maybe improved some.

Still waiting for iapplebytes (YouTube) to get his other iPhone 7 and we'll get a real great comparison side by side with iOS 11 and 10.3.3.

The iAppleBytes guy doesn’t have an iPhone 7, right?

He has one. But he's looking for another one that's exactly he same. Shouldn't be too much longer.

But once he makes the videos we should get a clear picture of the timing differences with the home button and animation speeds. The dude has been simultaneously pressing home buttons and comparing iOS versions for years in his videos now! Should be interesting...

It is still slower compared to the 7, much slower! iOS 11.1 and iP8.
iPhone 7 is faster than my 8, that is very disappointing.
