I’ve slo-mo videoed iOS 11.1 running on my iPhone 6 and while it is faster and smoother than 11.01 I believe the problem lies in Apple’s new animation changes. They seem to require more memory and cpu speed because each time a transition from one view to another happens it basically saves the old view, probably as a layer, then zooms in the new view under it and slides the old view out of the way.

It’s supposed to look better, but really it uses more cpu time, memory and therefore slows it down. Not good for older cpus.

I believe 11.1 and subsequent updates will improve the speed and smoothness on the view animations. This does appear to be a case where the new iOS version is really designed for or around the new models. My iPad 10.5” Pro works like a dream with 11.

Right now I’m planning to upgrade to the X by Spring 2018.

Seems Apple paid off Futuremark for a face saver after people are catching on to Apple’s planned obsolescence strategy in iOS 11. They used benchmarks nonetheless which can easily be manipulated as evidence. Adoption rates are worse than iOS 9 and 10 and they stopped signing iOS 10.3.3 prior to when they usually did.

The only way, Apple to make is believe you is to fix iOS 11 and make it how iOS is supposed to be. I shouldn’t be encountering stutters as among the non geek crowd I hang out with iOS is famous as the “smooth” OS while Android is the laggy one. This is starting to change rapidly.

huh, thought this thread had (finally) died. please keep it going forever; paranoia & conspiracy theories are the bedrock of the tech world (and reality is boring)...

It’s been almost a month and it’s still not on iOS 10 level of smoothness. I am using iOS 10 on my iPad Pro 12.9 2017 and it’s unreal how smooth it is in comparison. Not encountering a single stutter on it.No home button delays. No battery drain. Battery life is also below average on iOS 11 even now.

I played with an iPhone 8 the other day and compared it to my 7 running 10.3.3. I couldn't believe how much faster my 7 is compared to it! The home button delay and animations just felt slower. It was so weird! Usually I have the opposite feeling when I go and try out the new iPhone. I really wonder if they will ever speed things back up? iOS 11 puzzles me in it's current state.

am in agreement that ios11 needs work. but the rest of this (apple intentionally hobbling old phones) is just absurb. personally, am more interested in seeing fixes in updates, than whining, and running back to ios10.

anyway, we'll repeat the madness in a year, when it's ios12's turn to bring out the conspiracy theorists...

Every new iOS takes almost a year to be completely smooth, eg. for iOS 10 it took to 10.3.3 to achieve this. So why is everyone so surprised iOS 11, after one month, isn’t as smooth as it can be.

It is definitely not absurb but meticulously well planned adjustments to iOS UI experience to show latest models to be faster.
We should make more noise so that Apple understands such shady practices will not be tolerated in future.

I’ve been making a noise appropriate to my level of outrage from day 1. I’ll make some more noise here in a few weeks when I preorder my new phone. If they’re still in business this time next year, I’ll assume they got the message.

a theory is not a fact. still, if a dozen or so conspiracy theorists make enough noise, am sure apple will change it's ways...

I can't believe those morons at Futuremark making such ridiculous conclusions based on benchmarks. It's the same hardware. Of course it will score the Same

How is it a theory when phones have factually slowed down over time?

So a managed PR release from futuremark which has got nothing to do with UI lag/stutter is a fact but all the videos in this thread as well as youtube are anecdotes? What is the real fact then?
LMAO dude. You just need to stop.

All people who are noticing the home button response slowdown in iOS 11 simply want the behavior reverted back to iOS 10. It is as simple as that. If Apple doesn't do it... Planned Obsolescence.

i didn't mention the futuremark thing, you did.

a theory isn't a fact; that's a simple truth, isn't it? if you think that doesn't apply here, that's your opinion.

i am not arguing whether there are issues with ios11. i am simply pointing out that, having an opinion about why there are issues remains an opinion... without concrete evidence. that's what's missing here. still, conspiracy theories are, at least, entertaining....

iPhone GeekBench Score Low

Apple throttling our iPhone’s Cpu permanently!

I am experiencing that throttling and i cant even reach average score! I tested my iPhone Colder and Warmer scenario both same.

My iPhone’s Cpu throttled permanently!

Dont believe GeekBench’s Cpu frequency value.

Apple slowing down some older iPhone’s! Permanently! You need to pay to Apple for faster older phone or you need to buy new iPhone. This is win win for Apple.

If you are using iOS 10.2.1 and above, Permanently Cpu Throttling will be came soon to your device.

To tell you the truth, I have ALWAYS seen higher scores in GeekBench with new iOS versions on same hardware

Example on my iPhone 7 Plus

Is this common knowledge? I never seen any iPhone reviews mention this.

You probably don't know but Apple uses cpu parts from more than one supplier.

Geekbench scores were manipulated by Samsung when it was found they were overclocking their CPU to unrealistic levels when the software was being run. Wouldn't surprise me if Apple is doing th4 same here but no one can find out because iOS is closed source.

I just don't trust those scores on any platform.

You probably don’t know but Apple uses only TSMC manufactured SOCs for iPhone 7. They used 2 manufacturers for 6S.

So this pretty much disproves the “planned obsolescence” debate. The iPhone 8 would be faster if true.

By the way, iOS 11.1 b1 is a lot faster so they are trying to improve it.

iPhone 6s, and I haven't noticed anything strange. I mean there's occasionally a little stuttering as a program loads if it's not in RAM already, but that's always the case, and my phone's STILL fast as hell.
