I don't think OP is belittling anyone. What's "smart" is relative to one's needs and desires. Smart to others can be going high end no matter the cost. Much depends on one's financial condition. It's just his perspective which I find has some valid points.

Yes they are. They made an insinuation that smart people don’t buy new iPads, simply due to the price.

Personally I find that rather insulting, but I digress.

If OP was truly smart he (or she) would realize other people have the freedom to spend their money however they desire and as long as what they're spending it on isn't causing harm to society then they should probably just keep their opinions isolated to their own personal perspective.

Oh trust me, I agree... I personally think it's a waste of money to drop two grand on an iPad Pro, thats why I bought the 256gb model, sure it's still nine hundred bucks, but I can justify that a lot easier than two thousand.

But yeah, all of these things are insane, especially when you're talking about something like an iPad Pro where except for some pretty specific use cases, the stock iPad would provide most of us with all we truly need.

Life is more complicated than all this though, people work hard, some people don't have a family to spend money on, or travel to save for, or whatever, a million different scenarios... and if those people find happiness in a new iPad, even at two grand, then by all means, let them have that happiness.
So you can buy 2 iPad Pro and have money left over the 1TB upgrade?

SSD's don't cost that much. So Apple is overcharging like hell.

…seriously who would pay that price?
I use to upgrade my iPhone every year. The price was high, but do-able. Once it went north of USD$800, I decided to only upgrade every 2-years. With iPads, I did order 12.9” 256GB Wifi model recently, however, I would not upgrade that for 3-years. I know there are many cashed-up folks around the world and they are happy to pay whatever the amount. For me, as prices go up, I upgrade less frequently.

How about a "proper" OS. iPads are gimp'd due to their OS. If Apple decides to make iPad OS "just like Mac OS" then why is Apple making such a big deal with the M1 laptops, Mini, ect. MacBooks will always be the top of the line product. Period.
Can't see iPad's EVER being able to replace a proper laptop. Folks seem to forget that alot of MacBook folks(like myself) want their laptops to use different platforms for different reasons(I use Parallels for Win10, Linux Mint, ect. for fun). Can't do that on an iPad.
That's exactly what I said... This thread is another "iPadOS is not worth the hardware" rant in disguise...
Internet is full of youtube videos and forums posts about it since the M1 iPads were announced and I don't expect anything less from the upcoming reviews in May.
This is while not having a clue of what iPadOS 15 is bringing in 20 days... and simply making arguments just based on "skeptical" speculations... Sometimes I think that many of these people ranting are just trying to manage their own expectations (because better to convince yourself that you are going to be disappointed and be positively surprised than the opposite, right?) or to justify a preorder of a given model (because they are not certain if they made the right choice...)

Beautiful device for beautiful people
$2000 for a device in 2021 is almost nothing these days..
A premium car is over 60$-70$ € these days and that car i also keep it for 4 years
Lets not compare a device/car with a 20$ hummer or something like my suits from Kiton or Cesare Attolini that cost double or triple but i can use them a lifetime...those are not devices...and lets not even talk about Patek Philippe or Audemars Piguet etc that those, also are not devices but not just you can use them a lifetime, but also your children can use them after you die...its non-sense to compare different things from total different categories
iPad Pro si marvellous, and if you can also make money from it for 3-4 years...$2000 is nothing, is more of an investment really

This is what I'm doing. I used to upgrade iPads nearly every year ($900-1200 for max storage+cellular). I've never been a big iPhone user so once the 2-year contracts ended, I kept mine as long as battery held.

When iPad prices hit $2K in 2018, I hit the pause button and kept using the 2017 512GB for 4 years. I would've upgraded last year but the 2020 Pro was a disappointment. Now, I plan on keeping the 2021 1TB for a minimum of 3 years. With 1TB storage and extra RAM though, I'm guessing I'll be good with it for 5 years.

For 11” iPad Pro 1tb (to get 16gb ram)
WiFi+cellular
Applecare

no case
No keyboard
No pencil

Just because you have lost your mind doesn’t mean I have...seriously who would pay that price?
The only proper response to this is...

But seriously, we all have different needs and wants in our devices. There is a cost in having a top-tier tablet that holds nothing back... including price. Who else offers such a high powered device in such a small form factor?

You think it is insane for Apple to charge $1900+ for an iPad Pro.

I think it is insane for Apple to charge anything over $600 for any iPad (Pro or non). And yes, I've bought iPad Pros with higher pricetags than $600, but I'm now using a Mini 5. The best value for any iPad, IMO, is the 8th gen.

For "full-sized" tablets, I prefer my Samsung Galaxy Tab S6. With regard to productivity tasks it can do far more than that 11" iPad Pro... and does so at a fraction of the price.

But it is a good thing for consumers that Apple has such a wide range of iPads available. I'm not concerned about the top tier, but what they offer at the entry level. As long as they continue to offer an entry level iPad (that is highly capable, like the 8th gen) for under $400, then Apple can sell an iPad Pro for $3000 for all I care. ?

Oh, it wasn't hand to justify even after getting a 2020 iPad Pro. 50% faster. Sold. Plus my last one felt expensive because it only had 256GB of storage. Now I've gone for the 1 TB. Easy decision.

OP has a point. Smart consumers are always analyzing what they could get instead for similar amount of money. For example, it's almost double the cost of a Lenovo Yoga 6 Ryzen 4700U/16GB/1TB convertible laptop/tablet with touch and pen inputs. I think if people get assurance that 2021 iPP will get MacOS that can also run iPadOS apps then it'll be less of a sting.

Does the Lenovo run all my iPadOS apps?

If the answer is no then your reply is worthless.

People buy iPads because they’re iPads, not because they’re PCs.

Why do you insist on telling everyone here they should be buying PC stuff? It’s a stuck record!

Dude, just get an entry-level iPad and spend the rest getting an M1 Mac. :) That's what I did. Entry level MBA M1 and a used iPad Air 3. Problem solved. 99.9% of the population doesn't need 16 GB RAM on a fricking iPad. LOL. They don't even need 6 GB.

Why would you need either 16GB or 2TB or an M1 chip in an iPad to start with...

I think these are very reasonably priced. Never have I felt that 4GB was restricting anything on my current IPP even running 3 apps intensive apps simultaneously and others in the background.

And if you really need such overpowered upgrades in an iPad, I think the price tag will be suitable for whatever your line of work is anyway.

Please elaborate with examples of this functionality. I’m interested as the S7/S7+ caught my eye.

I think it's funny when people want to buy pro products but then complain about pro prices. You know there are cheaper iPads for regular consumers, right?
Even funnier when people think they are a pro product cause the dev said so and buy because they said so..lol
