I doubt iOS 11 will have any new iPad features. From a big perspective, iPad is at an evolutionary plateau. It's not where the main battle is at and it doesn't make sense to throw iOS resources at iPad.

Strategically, Apple's focus is on gaining smartphone market share worldwide. Apple is having trouble breaking into China because of how WeChat is used in everyday lives.

From a tech usage perspective, China is about a half decade ahead of the rest of the world in using phones to pay for lunch, dinner, taxis, utility bills, and transferring money between each other. In order for iOS to remain relevant, Apple needs tighter integration into the daily lives of the users from movie tickets to Groupon to health. It's a matter of time before another WeChat-like platform shows up outside China.
Apple while definetly focused on iPhone is trying to grow iPad as well I mean if they weren't focused on iPad I don't think you'd see the iPad Pro as it exists today, don't be naive the iPad has a very big importance to Apple and they want to see it become the next pc for most people

I also think iPADs have enough importance to the company to make them develop iOS features in respect to tablets. iPADs have sold more than 330 million since the launch of iPAD 1, less than iPhones, true, but still several times more than Macs. iPADs have stagnated because they limit the user way too much. It's not the hardware, it's the toy-ish iOS that doesn't allow most of the simple desktop operations available since 1985 to PC users (Mac PCs included). iOS is ok for phones, but not for tablets, IMO.
So if they allowed the iPADs to become a real substitute to desktops, people will buy them way more than in the past. Not everybody wants a notebook (I don't), and in terms of desktops, iMacs are also too special to be adopted by many - by their limited hardware flexibility and lack of modular approach (you get what's in the box, and you can only replace the while thing = bad).
The german Apple website for iPADs says "the best computer maybe isn't one" - the english Apple iPAD pro site says "Super. Computer" - Clear message in both, unfortunately not realistic with current iOS.

Why wouldn't Apple be updating the 12.9" Pro?

I don't understand how some posters come up with these questions.
Being the bigger high end model, Apple could very well hold off till Fall in order to give the 12.9 inch a Edge to Edge display, truetone, and A11X vs a A10X in the rumored 10.5 inch.

Tell me about it! 1946 vintage here:eek: Believe me, it goes by faster as you age.....true story. :p

So, now you know my vintage, I'm still going to wait for the 10.5.....that is if I can live that long.;):D:D:D

A thought on that is that when you are young, everything is new so events are retained in your memory, but when you are old their is not so many new events and so it's not memorized as much.

The tech isn't available yet for 12.9" thin bezel displays. If you look display news from JDI, SDC, Sharp, current thin-bezel displays are for 5-10" devices.

Even if the tech were available, it would be expensive. It would push the 12.9" iPad Pro towards $899. The cannibalization of iPad is already occurring from the bottom (iPhone) and the top (MacBook). The iPad family is surviving in the middle.

Basically, 2017 is not the right time for a thin-bezel 12.9" iPad.

I think it's available look at all the 14inch thin bezel laptops I think a iPad would be feasible but I agree they aren't ready yet

I don't believe those 14" laptops have touch sensitive displays. Look at the recently announced 13.5" Microsoft Surface Laptop with pen support and you'll see a thick bezel is still required.

Any idea if the current Smart Keyboard and silicon case from apple will fit this new 10.5"?
Nobody could say for sure the new display might change the way the magnets are implemented into the iPad so we can't say for sure really although I'd expect it to fit unless it changes thickness

That's vague. Do you mean the 9.7" iPad Pro will be discontinued? That seems a bit absurd given that it was launched a little more than a year ago.

The iPad Air 2 is no longer on sale officially, and the 2017 iPad was launched literally 2 months ago....
10.5 pro on,9.7 pro off

i

think if Apple wants to make the 10.5" into the exact same body, i think yes, that is the idea
Well, I think since Apple made the current Pro covers and bottoms 2 separate pieces and greatly overpriced them, I say no, something will cause you to have to buy one specific to the 10.5".

Pulpconselor - with Kuo's prediction going in the direction you suggested, I am becoming curious.
Did your source drop any hints about OLED in the upcoming device? Or do we have to wait another year?

Thanks and Cheers!
There is no OLED news so far

I know someone who sells smart cover,he says the cover size of 10.5 is obviously bigger
